The rest of detention went really slow. I completed my homework and also completed one sixth of the portions that I had missed when Coach Smith said that we were free to go.
The boys had ceased talking, so I didn't get to hear anything else from them.
I tried to keep my pace with TWPs who had no problem while adding the distance between us with those powerful looking long legs of theirs. That made me almost run behind them.
I was pretty sure that they wouldn't be stopping if I called out to them.
The only option left for me was stop them physically, even when there was a risk of them bulldozing over me.
They were outside the exit pretty quickly and down the stairs while I was panting like a drowning dog as I tried to skip a few stairs behind them.
And that just did it. Worst luck ever, I missed one of the steps and ended up losing my balance as the gravity did it's job to send me flying down the last pair of stairs. Looks like I might be breaking a few more bones or perhaps even teeth this time around.
I closed my eyes in the anticipation of the impact only to encounter the familiar feeling of electricity shoot up my skin and the intoxicatingly mesmerizing smell entered my system.
Immediately as if being called, my eyes flew open staring at the pair of dancing mercury eyes. His hands had caught me by my shoulders while I grabbed onto his arms for support.
The butterflies turned into eagles as they soared in my stomach.
If you hated me or didn't feel anything for me, why did you always ended up saving me in the time of my need?
I wanted to ask that. Very badly. But knowing him, he might withdraw himself back into his shell once I voice my questions.
He lifted me effortlessly and put me back down on the steady solid concrete making me mutter a 'thanks' in gratitude.
From the corner of my eyes, I watched Dylan shift over his other leg a few feet away from us while throwing daggers in my way.
"Do you have a minute?" I asked ignoring his oh-so-friendly friend. Vann just looked at me for a whole minute before asking, "what do you have to say?"
I glanced at Dylan, not comfortable with him standing there, all glares and no smiles.
The consecutive glance from Vann and some telepathy between the two ended up with Dylan dropping his arms crossed across his chest and grumble something under his breath before turning around and leaving us alone.
"Thank you for saving me just now," he went ahead to interrupt me by saying, "that wasn't a big deal--" but this time I interrupted him by adding, "and yesterday..."
He opened his mouth to say something but I raised my finger signalling that I wasn't over making him shut his open mouth and added, "and the time before."
And with that being said, I watched his fascinating eyes being shook in alarm. He opened his mouth again to deny, the one thing he had been doing so well at, yet again I slightly swung by pointing finger stopping him right before he began with an excuse to run away.
"I am not going to ask you anything about how you saved me or why you saved, so there is no need for you to make a beeline out of here," I could see suspicion in his eyes, nor was his rigid body anywhere close to being relaxed.
This time he voluntarily waited for me to go on, "I just wanted to ask if we can stop pretending to be headless chickens running the other way whenever we come across each other and behave more like two matured civilized people, perhaps even friends?"
"Did you just compare us to headless chickens?" He frowned and that gave me an urge to face palm, might as well hit my head on a wall. Out of the entire big sentence with thirty to thirty five words, the only thing that he caught on was me mentioning headless chickens? Seriously?
"Vann, I'm being serious here."
"And I am seriously considering your state of mind for comparing two high schoolers to headless chickens."
Was he really this naive and ignorant or was it he just trying to annoy me? Well, whatever it was, it was a mission accomplished! I looked at the clear blue sky, silently praying to the almighty God to lend me strength to deal with the likes of him while my heart kept beating like a professional drummer inside of my chest, creating a completely new heart rhythm that might land me in a test lab.
I sighed out loud, controlled my annoyance and hid my nervousness before looking him back in the eyes. I saw something akin to mirth there but it was gone in a flash like I had imagined it.
"That is a metaphor or idiom for panic stricken people running about mindlessly," I explained in a deadpanned voice.
Understanding seemed to flash in his eyes as he nodded. But I don't know why that only intensified the inkling I had about him being a tease.
"So, can we at least try to be tolerant acquaintances if not friends?" I dragged us back to the topic he had so skillfully dragged us off.
He stared at me, dilemma evident in his beautifully expressive eyes. And we stood there, in silence as I let him ponder over the answer he was wanting to give and what he supposed he was needed to give. A part of my selfish self wanted to lure him into giving an answer that I wanted to hear, an answer would have been as sweet as a daydream.
"I--" unfortunately, his answer was cut short when a feeling so strong gushed through my skin raising goosebumps all over me as my stomach churned in anxiety and cold sweat broke to trail down the hollow of my spine. The feeling of an impending doom took over me as my accident detector blared in a level five detection. And judging from the expression on Vann's face, I could bet my sweet grandma's treasured dentures that she wrote in her will to bury them with him in her grave, that he took felt this as vividly as I did. Only to be confirmed by Dylan's disheveled self who came running to only frantically announce, "they found us, they are here."
But that didn't really scare me, what actually did was a group of inhumanely handsome guys emerging from the bushes with a look of hostility and... naked as the day they were born.
God, I don't know how I going to die today, of the fear from the accident detector or from the amount of blood loss caused by the nose bleed due to my horniness.
