3. It might even enjoy biting as a profession

The class was ending. And I was bored out of my mind. Not that I displayed it. My doodling on the last page had finally taken a shape. I could make out the beautiful eyes, given an edge with the pencil to make them look greyish or rather my try to make them look silver was paying off. I don't know where I had seen them or even when but all I know is that, they were the only thing I could think about. Those hauntingly beautiful eyes, that I know I could never forget, came alive flickering like silver, changing it's color, making them hypnotic. "Snow Priestley," the calling of my name caused me to whip my head up to the teacher who was looking at me while filling the roll call. "Here," I said and sat back, we were already in the roll call part? Time sure passes fast. I slightly turned my head over my shoulder to look at the two blond guys who say like they didn't have a care in the world. Most of my focus was on the golden haired, mysterious guy, whose features I couldn't observe properly before. It didn't really feel odd to stare at them shamelessly with the fear of sticking out like a sore thumb, well, when every single girl in the room was no less than the bruised, sore thumb... Especially, when the handsome didn't even bat an eyelid at them. "Vann Zervos," the mysterious golden blond guy raised his hand when teacher called that name. My eyes widened upon hearing the last name. Zervos? As in West Zervos? Were these two related? Was it his brother? Or was he West's cousin from his father's side? Or was it all just a coincidence? There might be other people out there named Zervos and these two coincidentally happened to end up in the same school? Come on, what were the odds? A frown had edged on my forehead while clouded by those possibilities. The students slowly started to get up and leave but I was so deep in my thoughts that I wasn't paying attention until the end of period bell frightened me out of my stupor. The class was empty, only I remained seated. I stood with difficulty, before grabbing my crutches and heading towards my locker. There was free period, if I remembered it correctly. I limped out of the classroom to my locker. The herd of cheerleaders, or should I be saying the pack, came giggling from front as they discussed among themselves, completely ignoring their surroundings. One of them ran into my shoulder, pushing me into the lockers behind as she continued walking shouting over her shoulder, "watch it dork!" The shoving and running had caused me to drop a few books on the floor and it was terribly difficult for me to bend and pick them up with the crutches. Before I could request a passerby to help me, a delicate hand picked the books up for me. Soon, looking into my dull blue eyes were a pair of hazel grey eyes, with specks of blue and black. On a quick glance, they would seem normal grey, not the greyish-silver eyes that I had sketched on the back of my book, but they sure were beautiful in their own way especially when one paid a closer attention to the tiny blue and black specks, they sure could hypnotize anyone. "Here you go," Carlene smiled at me politely as she handed over the books to me. She was beautiful. Not many had given a thought about her when she hung around with the self-centered b***h, Lavinia, but once West started paying her attention, people started noticing and many boys started regretting the chance to have missed being with her. "Thank you so much," I replied gratefully. If it hadn't been for her helpful, I might have been standing here until a staff member walks past me. Students didn't inherit a gene called "kindness" around here. It was a rare for someone to help another without a reason. And an outcast like me, had it harder than the most in these situations. The crutch in my right slipped under my weight almost throwing me out of balance but Carlene grabbed me right on time, "are you alright?" "Yeah, having one of those days today," I shrugged giving a tight-lipped smile after getting a proper balance on myself. "Let me carry those for you," Carlene took the books from my hands and introduced herself with her hand outstretched, "I'm Carlene McLeish." "Snow Priestley," the moment our skins touched, I felt it. The tingling, like a warning bell going off. Giving me a level 3 at the least. The goosebumps on my skin rose but the moment she withdrew her hand, the feeling relaxed inside. I stared wide-eyed at her. It happened for the first time that I detected an accident magnitude when I touched a person but it sure freaked me out. "Snow, you alright?" Carlene asked again with a frown. Snapping out of thoughts, I cleared my throat and replied, "y-yeah. You were surprisingly stronger than I imagined." "Is it?" She frowned at her hand as she flexed her fingers. "Or I might have gone all fluff after surviving on hospital food and no exercise," I quickly added before it felt more weird to her. "Oh," she sighed with a smile before changing the topic, "what do you have next period?" "I had a free period now, and after that PE. Not that it will be an actual class for me," I shrugged showing my crutches. "I'm sorry, it'll be alright soon. You will be beating them left and right in a few days," Carlene smiled sadly at me. "I hope so," I gave back her a tight-lipped smile. "Lene," the velvety, deep male sing-song voice called out from behind making us both turn to look at him. West stood there, a suspicious look in his eyes as he stared at me from a distance. He didn't cover the distance between him and his girlfriend like he usually did, rather waited for Carlene to head back to him. It left me with a feeling like I was a rabid dog left out there to bite him, with this attitude of his, it might even enjoy biting as a profession. With another suspicious look in my direction, Zervos wound his hand around Carlene's shoulders and turned around to walk away. "What was that all about?" I couldn't help but frown.
