5: Demons Are Deceptive

Despite all that, I didn’t see Amy again until it snowed. And actually, I was just outside of the gates wandering around because, well, I was enjoying the snow. I know, ridiculous, right? Post-apocalyptic world, barely clinging to life by a thread, could die of hypothermia, and here I am, wandering around, looking at the snow falling because I think it’s pretty. Gotta get your enjoyment where you can. “What are you doing out here?” Amy’s strawberry blond hair was possibly longer when I turned with a small smile to greet him. I shrugged slightly. “I used to love snow, and it’s not bitterly cold today, plus just listen..” I let myself fall quiet and Amy c****d his head. “I don’t hear anything.” He stated. “Exactly!” I crowed, startling him. “It’s why I used to love snow. Everything always got so quiet. The way it never was in a city. The way it never was in my head. For once in my life I could go out somewhere and stand in the middle of a snowstorm, close my eyes, and inside and outside my head..” I paused for a beat or two. “..silence.” I opened my eyes and dropped my arms, realizing I looked ridiculous, but Amy was looking at me curiously, like a cat who had spotted prey. “Did I.. uh.. Say something weird again?” I unconsciously reached up to mess with my hair, forgetting for a moment that I was wearing a hood, and encountering that instead with a light scratching sound. Amy moved in on me. It was at once slow and seductive and quick like a cheetah. I didn’t have time to back up more than a pace before he was right in front of me. “I um.. Wow. You’re fast.” Amy chuckled at my near speechlessness and reached for the hand dropping from my hood. I let him have it without thought, without resistance. He pulled me to him with it, right against his chest. “Do you know why I’ve avoided seeing you for so long?” Amy murmured, his face lowered, so that I got to watch how his eyelashes brushed his cheeks as his eyes slowly closed. The way his lips turned up at the corners ever so slightly, and the way his nostrils flared as he caught my scent. “Umm, because I’m a temptation, and you wanted to avoid me?” The words barely squeaked past my lips. Amy wrapped his other arm around me tightly, holding me close. In slow motion, he nuzzled my head out of the way and used our joined hands to lower my hood. “Uh-uh.” Amy’s lips brushed my neck with the muttered word, and my whole body jolted, electricity and heat jumping through me like a live wire had touched my skin. I panted hard, and thought I probably moaned. “It’s because I’ve been thinking..” Amy’s lips settled at the crook of my neck and I surged into him, my body arching flush against his. He may have said it wasn’t because I was a temptation, but his body was giving me other opinions. And feeling that arousal, even through my layers of clothing, made me suddenly very, very wet. Amy groaned and nipped my shoulder. “Th-thinking ab-bout what?” I gasped out, my knees going weak. Amy took the opportunity to nuzzle his face further into my clothing, making my heartrate skyrocket. “I want your permission.. to Mark you.” Amy growled, tightening his grip on me. Somehow the growl wasn’t threatening, but sexy. It sent a jolt of straight lust through my veins and I let my head fall back. “I uh..” Oh I desperately wanted to say yes. “But..” But I didn’t know the conditions, and from what he had said earlier.. I pulled myself forcefully back towards a more rational state. “I’m not.. Property. You can’t own me.. Possess me.. I’m not a thing, I’m a living being..” Amy pulled back slightly, finally releasing my hand so he could cup my face. “I would ask that we belong to one another.” His voice had softened and it easily melted my insides as well. As his eyes gazed longingly into mine, completely shrouded in black, I found myself nodding my agreement, and he smiled softly, close-lipped. I had a feeling it was probably because his teeth had changed along with his eyes. He placed his forehead against mine, closing his eyes. “Thank you. In this way, we can be closer, even if we cannot be.. As close as I’d like.” Amy kissed me softly, just a brush of the lips really. The contact was for mere seconds, but it sent my whole body into hyper awareness of him. I wanted, so badly, to strip him of his clothes and.. “..would you like it?” Amy’s hand slid down my arm to grasp my hand again and I blushed furiously, unsure of what he’d just asked. “I uh.. Huh? I’m sorry, what?” As I stumbled over it, Amy looked at me with amusement. “Look, my brain’s a little fuzzy, ok? You smell good and you’re so close to me right now and you’re not the only one who’s tempted ok!” I was nearly shouting by the end, but Amy’s amusement only grew. “I’m glad I’m not the only one. Our last few visits, you tried very hard to keep your distance. I was beginning to worry you no longer found me attractive.” He teased, nuzzling his face against my wrist. “Never.” I breathed as he tugged off my glove to get access to my bare skin. Immediately, my body lit with the internal zapping of electricity and heat. I was a goner. I knew it now. “I asked, where would you like your Mark?” Amy purred, and the snow wasn’t the only thing melting. “I um.. Somewhere easily hidden, I guess? Under my clothes? Is that too much? Like my upper arm or maybe..” I scrambled for an idea, but Amy supplied it for me. “Do you always keep your hair long?” He asked, circling me. “Uh, yeah. Scissors are hard to come by, and I’m not great with a knife.” I laughed self consciously. “Hmm, well as long as you don’t put it all up..” With a gentle swoop, he pulled my hair out of the way and tugged the hood of my jacket lower down. One long finger traced the back of my neck, sending delicious and torturous shivers through me. “..we could place it here. It would never be seen unless you wore your hair out of the way.” This time his voice came from beside my ear, and I desperately wanted to turn my face, make him kiss me, but he still held my hair.  “Ah-alright.” I stuttered. Amy’s smile could almost be felt against my earlobe as he hummed against it softly. “Good. Let me tell you a little of what happens.” His teeth grazed my neck again and I felt my head tilt involuntarily out of his way. “First, I’ll bite you back here deep enough to draw blood..” He massaged my neck, making me moan. With a chuckle he continued. “Then, I’ll bite my own tongue and mingle our blood..” “That sounds unsanitary. And dangerous.” I mumbled as a sharp nail traced designs in my nape. Amy laughed softly. “You’re making a Pact with a Demon, and you’re worried about hygiene?” Amy taunted. “Does this mean you’ll own my soul?” I questioned. Amy was quiet for a few moments. “I don’t want it. Your soul was never part of our agreement, but why do you sound almost.. Hopeful?” Amy was suddenly very quiet and his voice had lost the lascivious, teasing tone. “Because I would be with you forever.” I answered just as softly. Amy abruptly wrapped his arms around me from behind in a fierce hug, his face buried in my shoulder. He held me like that long enough that I had to shift positions, but then just as suddenly, he struck. I felt sharp, strong teeth tear my flesh and yelped in pain, but almost immediately, Amy was kissing and licking the wound. In addition, it felt like he was drawing something from within me. Everything in me surged to that one point of direct skin to skin contact between us, and it felt like to me that my soul was trying desperately to join with Amy in a way that my body could not. I wanted to give everything to him, let him take it all, and I heard him gulp and moan behind me, his fingers tightening on me as I began to slump in his grasp. His lips pulled free of my nape and, panting, he held me up as he rested his head against the back of my neck. We stood there breathing hard as the snow fell around us until he could speak again. “You.. don’t do that again.” Amy gasped. “Do what?” I wheezed, collapsing in his grasp. “You practically threw your energy, your ‘soul’, if you will, at me. If I’d taken it all, you could have died. Do you know how dangerous that is?” Amy scolded. I laughed weakly. “Felt good though.” I joked. “At least one of us got to shoot off a load, so to speak. Ha! Does this mean that I f****d you first? Spiritually? It does, doesn’t it?” I taunted. Amy groaned again, lightly dropping his head against my shoulder again. “You’re so crude. And you have no filter. Come on, we both need to sit down.” Amy pulled me upright and led me underneath a thickly branched evergreen whose lowest branches were a few feet off the ground. After crawling under and motioning me to follow, I did and he tugged me into his lap. In the cozy, protected space under the branches, we watched the snow fall and I snuggled into his arms as he talked. “I meant to tell you all this before Marking you, but better late than never, I suppose.” Amy gently touched the fresh, strangely reactive spot on the back of my neck. My back arched into the touch and I felt something like sparks shoot between us, filling me with warmth. Amy sighed. “You’re so reactive to me, I’d swear we were always meant to find one another.” He mumbled, then said louder “A few things you should know. First, because you can’t see it: this Mark glows. It’s basically your energy and mine, meant to be a beacon to me and a warning to all others. Keep it covered unless in the presence of other Demons. They won’t dare touch a Marked. Well, most of them.” He growled. “Second, we will be closer now. It’s different for different Demons, and I’ve not Marked anyone in a very long time, so I’m not sure how this will go for you and I. Some can talk to each other in their minds, others just always ‘know’ where the other is, etc. It's something we'll discover soon enough.” Amy hugged me tighter and I relaxed into his warmth. “Ok, third, and here’s the big one: you will experience some changes. This is normal, so don’t worry too much. Sharing even such a small amount of my energy with you will.. well, impact your own, for lack of a better way to phrase it. Most develop keener senses, and the like.” He explained. I hummed softly. “Mmm, but should it make me sleepy?” I yawned. “That’s because you shoved so much of your energy down my throat.” Amy chuckled, kissing the top of my head. “Well, that should be a good thing for you at least. Extra energy.” I yawned again. “More fuel for the tank.” “Shush now, go to sleep. I’ll watch over you.” Amy soothed. “Shouldn’t I.. go back to the colony.. Though?” My breathing had deepened and interrupted my words. “I spend.. A lot of time.. Sleeping on you.” I giggled sleepily and my eyes fell closed on the snow and silence of the world for a time. Amy’s footsteps crunched through the snow as he held me in his arms. For a moment, I wasn’t sure if I was still dreaming or not, but the slowly falling ice crystals assured me this was reality. Against the backdrop of the grey sky, Amy’s long, flowing hair and fair features almost made him seem to glow. “Beautiful.” I whispered, reaching up a hand to touch his jaw. He chuckled slightly, the sound soft and deep, seeming to come from all around me. “I seem to remember you saying something like that before, otherwise I would suspect the Mark had altered your perception.” Amy’s amusement seemed to have gotten inside me somehow. It was toasty and warm and delicious. I squirmed. “Where are we going?” I asked, wanting to keep him talking. “Back to the colony.” Somehow, I felt his amusement fading. In its place was a dull throb of loneliness and worry. I clutched my jacket over my chest. “I sensed you were about to wake, so I started us on the way.” Amy finally looked down at me, eyes taking in the firstful of jacket. It seems you’re feeling it too.” He murmured. “Feeling what, exactly?” I tried to relax my hand, but Amy simply smiled knowingly at me. “The Bond between us waking up. Tell me, what are you sensing?” His gaze narrowed in on me in concentration, and I gasped slightly as even more emotion poured through me. Longing, so much longing. Anger, love, fear.. A wealth, a lifetime, no a hundred thousand lifetimes, an eternity of them. And they all narrowed down to one emotion. Concern. Amy was feeling concern.. For me. I reached up again and touched his cheek. To my surprise, he leaned into the gesture. “Why are you worried about me? I’m fine, this is just new and a bit.. Strange. I’m sorry you’re so lonely. I wish I could come stay with you without making your life harder.” I whispered. Further surprising me, a single tear landed on my arm. My attention jerked to Amy’s face, but it was hidden by his hair. “I’m much less lonely now.” He murmured, then paused in the snow. “I think this is as far as I should go.” I looked around to see that we had come within throwing distance of the gates. Closer than Amy had ever gotten before. He set me down slowly and gently and I thought for a moment he might kiss me, but instead, he squeezed me in a tight hug, then turned to walk away. He may have been trying to hide it, but the lust that surged in my chest wasn’t mine, or at least not mine alone. And there was a definite stirring in his pants. My face red, I turned toward the gates and walked with my head down back toward my home in the colony. Away from Amy, but I’d never felt closer to him before.
