CHAPTER 21 Engagement

Doctor Michael refused to attend his engagement party with Doctor Garcia. He was so worried about Marnie's sudden disappearance. He knew he had hurt her and he wanted to mend her broken heart. He wanted to marry her instead of Doctor Garcia. It was just an arranged marriage by their parents and he won't allow it to happen. He loves Marnie and he wanted only her to be his wife.

After learning from his friend that Marnie was in Marinduque, he already booked a ticket to pursue her. He won't prolong his agony. He knew that Marnie had feelings for him too and he will grab this opportunity this time to confess to her.

He took two weeks to leave St Luke's Hospital. He knew that he can't easily pursue Marnie to come with him. It will take time for him and be with her in Marinduque for the time being. He can't afford that he will be rejected by Marnie because of the engagement being announced by Doctor Garcia.

He will disobey his parents this time. He knew that his mother will be disappointed with him, yet he can't allow that they ruin his life forever. He is not in love with Doctor Garcia. He only loves Marnie period.

He was already in Dalahican port and very excited to see her beloved girlfriend. His only love, Marnie.

He was so grateful to Mr. Castello for allowing him and giving him a blessing to pursue his daughter once again. He won't let his trust in him fail. He will take care of and love Marnie for the rest of his life.

He was now on board and instead of staying in his cabin. He walked through and look at the sea while the ship is starting to navigate and leave the port area.

He reminisces all the good moments they had together. He was just starting to get along with Marnie and he can't afford to lose her this time. He will do anything and everything to win her back. He doesn't want to hurt or harm Marnie's feelings. He decided to be her husband and take good care of her for the rest of their lives.

"This will be yours my beloved Marnie," he get a beautiful tiny box in his pocket and while smilingly opened it. He was now looking at a diamond elegant ring. He asked his friend who is a jeweler to customize a ring exclusive for Marnie. He will give this beautiful elegant ring to his beloved girlfriend. He won't allow anybody or anything to ruin their relationship this time.

Meanwhile...

Marnie was still sleeping in her bedroom when her Auntie called her her lunch. 

"Marnie, wake up. Lunch is ready," her Auntie knocked on the door and woke her up.

"Thanks, Aunt," Marnie said.

"Your Dad called up and told me to accompany you to the farm later. You can do paintings there," her Aunt said to her.

"Wow, great," she smiled at her Aunt and gave thanks to her. She needs to divert her time to forget about Doctor Michael. Sleeping can't do a lot better with her too. She joined her Aunt to eat their lunch and prepared all her painting tools after.

She wore a big sunny shade and a big summer hat before she and her Aunt went to the far. She was so amazed at the reach and ambiance here. So natural. She looked for a comfortable place to set up her painting materials. Her Aunt left her for a while to feed their cows and goats who were scattered at the farm. Marnie finds quiet in this place.

On the other side, Doctor Garcia was so mad knowing that Doctor Michael took a weekend leave and his secretary doesn't even know where he was. She kept on calling Doctor Michael's mother.

"Hi, Mom. Did you find Michael already?" she asked irritably. She can't afford to be embarrassed in front of their family and friends.

"Look Christina, I'm doing all the best I can to locate him. His phone can't be reached and we can't ask his friends about his whereabouts," Mrs. Co was so irritated as well. This was the first time her son disobeyed her. It was a very special occasion indeed. As she and Dr. Gacia's mother invited all their friends and relatives to this engagement party for the two doctors, Doctor Michael and Doctor Garcia. Mrs. Co had beads of sweat on her forehead already.

"Michael, where in the world are you now? I'm so disappointed with you," she left a voice message for Michael.

Mrs. Co decided to make a drama to divert the crowd's questioning and Doctor Garcia's tantrums. She acted like she was terrible having a headache and she collapsed in the middle of the party. Her husband, the elder Doctor Co, immediately caught her and decided to bring her to the nearest hospital. Somehow the elder Doctor Co knew that his wife was just faking her drama.

When they reached their car, he had already flown away. "Come on, I know that you're just faking it. You can now open your eyes, we are heading home already," he said to Mrs. Co.

Mrs. Co decided to open her eyes and seat comfortably inside their car. "Are you sure, we are already far away from them/?" she asked her husband. She doesn't want to act in front of him as he knew her very well. It's better to go home.

"Hmmph. I am so disappointed with our son," she almost yelled inside their car.

"I told you before never interfere on our son's personal life, especially on his affair. You don't want to listen to me," he said to his wife.

"I know what's good for my son," Mrs. Co initiated.

Doctor Garcia's mother decided to announce and cut the engagement party already, It will be such a waste of time since it was almost two hours late already and Doctor Michael hadn't shown up either. He neither call nor advise her daughter that he wasn't interested to attend at all. She pities her daughter. Her daughter loves Doctor Michael a lot even if she had lots of suitors.

She gave courtesy to all friends and relatives who helped them arrange this party and politely explained that it will be cut already as Doctor Michael can't be found and reached as of the moment. She won't any longer be allowed this thing to happen to her beloved daughter ever again.

Meanwhile, Doctor Garcia decided to stay in her room and went to her minibar. She drank to the extent that she almost consumed all the liquors on her bar's shelves.

'I hate you so much, Michael. How could you do this to me?" she yelled before she threw a bottle of wine on the floor.

'I hate you!" she yelled and yelled as she was bursting her tears.

"I gave up almost everything. My pride. My profession. Everything," she said then cried out loud.

Mrs. Garcia heard the noise inside her daughter's room but she doesn't want to intervene as she knew how badly hurt she was. 

Doctor Garcia fell asleep on the floor as she was too exhausted the whole evening crying and yelling.

When Mrs. Garcia hear no more noise inside her daughter's room, she asked their servant to bring her the keys.

She pitied her daughter seeing how she looked now. Her sophisticated and elegant daughter seemed to be too exhausted and can't bear the pain inside. She asked the helper to help her bring Cristina to her bed and clean her up.

After cleaning Cristina, she let her daughter slept well and they cleaned the mess in her room.

"It will be alright tomorrow my child. It will be alright," she combed her daughter's hair with her fingers before she tucked her inside the quilt.
