*Victor’s POV*
“Hey Vic…wait up!” I heard my sister call out as I was rushing towards the hospital. “Mel…not right now” I huffed. She grabbed my arm, stopping my advances. “What’s going on? And don’t tell me later…you look like you saw a ghost.” My sister continued. I sighed, running my hand through my hair again. At this rate I’ll probably end up bald with how much I do this.
“I can’t explain it all right now Mel, but I have to go and reject Celina now” I said annoyed. “I thought you were going to wait until the end of the school year?” she hissed at me. I looked at her painfully, shaking my head. “I can’t wait…I have three days to reject her. By the next full moon she’ll either be banished by father, or dead. I have to reject her now” I tried to explain. Amelia gasped, her hands covering her mouth in horror.
“Why would father do this?” she screamed. “He has no choice…all along we thought he was cruel…when in reality he’s been protecting humans and wolves alike…I can’t explain it now Mel. It’s too much information. All I know is that if I don’t reject her, her life will be in danger” I finished before running off, leaving a surprised Amelia behind. I stopped my sprint when I entered the hospital, trying to compose myself. Taking a few breaths to calm my nerves, and a raging wolf that was against the idea of rejecting our mate, I made my way towards the nurse at the front desk, giving Celina’s information. She smiled while bowing slightly, giving me the visitor’s pass and directions to her room.
‘We can’t do this’ my wolf Apollo growled. ‘We have no choice. Do you want her to forcibly shift into a lycan and get hunted down?’ I replied back. Apollo growled at the threat. ‘We protect mate. She’s stronger than you think.’ He tried to reason. ‘We can’t take the risk’ I finalized, blocking our connection. I could feel him trying to push through. The one thing I was grateful for my training is the control of our wolves and preventing a hostile takeover, which at the moment, was getting quite difficult.
I stopped in front of the door to her room, taking a deep breath and knocking before entering. I saw her look at me in surprise, her mouth full of chicken tenders. She swallowed quickly, choking slightly and coughing, causing her to cry out a bit. I quickly ran towards her side, rubbing her back gently as she tried to compose herself.
“For the love of God Vic…you’re going to kill me at this rate” she wheezed as she took a sip of her drink. I chuckled at the sight of her, sitting on her hospital bed with just a gown on…I really took her in at that moment. The gown was partially lowered off her shoulders, exposing the cast that covered her wound and surgery. I felt a lump in my throat at the site of her wounds, knowing if I were just a few seconds late, she could’ve been killed.
“Vic?” her voice pulled me from my trance, and I noticed I was still rubbing circles along her back. Her face was flushed, the tingles and sparks coursing through my hands by her touch. I quickly pulled my hand away, averting my gaze embarrassed. “Sorry…you were choking…” I tried to explain. She chuckled slightly, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear as she looked at her food.
“Amelia was here a few minutes ago. She snuck this in for me as the hospital food was boring” Celina explained. I took her in at that moment again. Was I ready to do this? She was recovering from an attack and surgery. Would she be strong enough to handle a rejection? She’s human, at least, for now she is, so she wouldn’t be able to feel the bond too much right? I pulled a chair close to her bed and grabbed her hands that were fiddling with a French fry.
“Celina…” I started, causing her to look up at me. Her cheeks still were tinted red, her eyes were slightly glazed over. Was she feeling the bond now? “What do you feel…when I hold your hand?” That was not the question I was trying to ask. What the hell am I thinking right now! Celina looked at me and then at my hands, biting her lower lip in the process.
Goddess she’s killing me softly with her little tics. Her lips were swelling slightly from the ongoing battle between her teeth and lips, and I had to lift my free hand to pull her lip from her teeth. I heard a gasp at the contact, which confirmed that she was, in fact, feeling the effects of the bond. s**t….a human’s not supposed to feel the sparks like us. A mutual attraction and pull sure, but the tingles occur only after marking and subsequent change, if the human wants to change to a werewolf.
“It’s a buzz” Celina started to explain. “At first it felt as if when your legs fall asleep and start waking up, but instead of it tingling painfully, it’s a warm, comforting tingle” she continued. I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat. It was faint, but she could feel the bond, which meant time was running out. She was already starting with the transformation and in three nights, which would either be a full werewolf, or possibly a lycan.
“Anything…” I had to clear my throat again, feeling the dryness in my mouth at being so close to her, and not being able to claim her. “Anything weird has been going on?” I managed to ask. She furrowed her brows, thinking for a moment. “My mom thinks I’ve lost my marbles because I told her I could smell the rogue, which by the way, is a really disgusting smell” she added, scrunching up her nose in distaste. I felt my resolve weakening, and the urge to claim her getting stronger. Apollo was slowly making his way forward, and I was running out of time.
“Celina” I called her name, standing up slowly. Her gaze never left mines, her lips parting slightly. I needed to keep myself at bay, but her lips…how would they feel? Without realizing what I was doing, I leaned closer to her face, my hand caressing her cheek softly. I pressed my lips against hers, the warmth and tingles coursing through my body, and I had a feeling it was coursing through hers at the exact moment. I felt her tense up from the kiss, a squeal of surprise escaping her captured lips as I deepened it, wanting to taste more of her. Soon after her lips moved against mines, parting to give me the access I desired. Our tongues danced in rhythm, and I swear I didn’t want it to end.
I slowly broke the kiss, resting my forehead against hers. Her eyes were closed, and her faced was redder than a tomato. “Vic” she whispered in surprised, opening her eyes to look at me. There it was…one of her jade colored eye flashed golden. The change was coming faster…much faster. “Celina…” I closed my eyes, knowing that I needed to do this now.
“I…have to do something I will forever regret” I continued. That snapped her out of her daze as she looked at me confused for a moment. “If I don’t…you won’t be safe” I looked at her eyes, both now the beautiful jade I had fallen in love with so long ago when we were just pups. “Please, never forget how much I hate this…and how much I’ll hate myself for this. I can’t stop you from hating me, but I do hope one day everything will make sense, and you will understand why things had to turn out this way” my gaze never left hers, and dawning and realization hit her at that moment. She pulled away from me, her eyes glazing over from unshed tears.
“It was me all along?” she whispered, her voice cracking slightly. I could hear my wolf whining, begging me not to do this. I stood up straighter, taking a couple steps away from her bed. The action didn’t go unnoticed by her, whose expression showed the pain I was feeling in my chest. “I…Victor Silverlight, future Alpha of Red Moon Pack, hereby reject you, Celina Hayes, member of Red Moon Pack, as my mate, and future Luna of Red Moon Pack” I felt the sharp pain in my chest, the bond severing from my end.
It felt as if I were falling into an abyss of pain and suffrage. I staggered a bit, holding my chest as I took a few breaths to control myself. I lifted my head to look at her, seeing her holding her chest as well as the tears were flowing down her cheeks. I hate myself…causing her all this pain when I love her…loved her for so long. My wolf gave an agonizing howl before he receded deeper into my mind, and I winced at his pain as well. “I…need you to accept it….Lina…” I whispered through the pain.
The look on her face broke me even more. There was so much pain, anguish, hurt, and betrayal that I felt I was suffocating under her gaze. Again, one eye changed to gold, and she gripped the gown covering her chest tightly. “I…” she began, her voice breaking as fresh tears fell down her cheeks.
“I…Celina Hayes….m…member of the Re…Red Moon Pack…” her gaze never left mines, and I held my breath, bracing myself for the new wave of pain that was about to hit us. “Accept your rejection, forever severing our bonds” a new snap, like a rubber brand breaking, echoed in my mind. The hollowness, followed by the intense pain that filled my body made me grit my teeth as I fell to my knees, holding my chest tightly. The pain was unbearable. I just wanted to die at that moment. Why…why did it have to be her? Why couldn’t I be happy with her? Why was fate so cruel to give me the perfect girl, only to have to hurt her because she’s in danger?
The quickened beeps of the monitors echoed in my ears, forcing myself to look up at the bed. Celina was gritting her teeth, the monitors going haywire from her emotions. Her heart racing was off the charts and she gave a strangled cry before falling back onto the bed, her hand falling over the edge of the bed. “Lina…” I managed to rasp out, trying to crawl her way as my body began to feel heavy like lead. The beeping stilled into a final beep and my blood froze. No…no…not her…
“Lina!” I screamed out before everything darkened around me, silence and darkness shutting the world around me out of my consciousness.
