Devil’s POV
I leaned back on my comfy chair and enjoyed every sip of the freshly brewed tea. I stared at the live cam footage focused on a cabin with no sign of people. After few minutes, someone entered by slightly limping and sat on the boss chair. I glanced at my watch and realised it was 9:58 am. ‘From the first day, I haven’t seen you coming late to the headquarters. Even after being injured, you are right on time before everyone else. I'm impressed Dexter' I praised my rival and stared at him while he was going through some file.
After few minutes, he suddenly stood up and walked out of the room. In a span of few seconds, he came back and got back to his seat. He leaned back on his chair and closed his eyes, probably to take a power nap. ‘He has no idea about how his own enemy has been keeping on eye on him from the very first day, listening to all of his plans and acting accordingly. He thinks he is smarter than me, but what he hasn’t realised yet is that I’m always a step ahead of him.’
As I poured another cup of tea for myself, I saw someone enter the cabin. It was Stella, the one who is close to Dexter in the team. It won’t be wrong if I guess that she has feelings for him. Anyone could confirm it by seeing the way she was staring at him sleeping peacefully. She tapped on his shoulder and woke him up. They started planning for their next date, which I was least interested to listen. I muted the audio until others joined them.
I was stunned by seeing Mason joining others on his wheelchair. That guy was seriously insane to join the team in such a condition. ‘What is it that drives these people to work on this case in spite of they being injured and having a life threat from me? Either they are too careless about their lives or too overconfident to outsmart me and save these savants. They underestimate me a lot and that’s what motivates me to come up with different ideas to prove them wrong'
They didn’t discuss anything new and decided to search for Evelyn with the information which they had got. The thing which caught my attention was Dexter whispering something to Ansh. It's my habit of being suspicious of even a small uncommon act around me. And I have to be extra careful in case of Dexter. Either he would have assigned something to Ansh other than work or he would have observed the camera facing his cabin and was suspicious of who was keeping an eye on him. If the second one is true, then he'll be cautious while discussing about anything in the cabin.
•••••••••••••
No one entered the cabin the yesterday since Dexter left. I observed the live footage as everyone entered the cabin one by one. Once everyone were there, Dexter started speaking. He told them that he felt like they were missing out something from Jeanine’s case, so he ordered them to search Jeanine’s home and workplace once again to see if they were missing out anything. ‘Just as I expected' I stared at the screen with a confident smirk. I rang the table bell and within few seconds Nolan entered my cabin.
“Just like we had planned, tell those two guys to do their work. One has to place that key in the cellar below her house and the other should keep the locket, which she was wearing, in that old house in her workplace. Call them and tell them to do it as soon as possible since these guys can reach those places any moment” I ordered him. “Don’t worry boss, they are already at their locations and they are waiting for you to confirm. Within a span of few minutes the job will be done” he replied with confidence and I smiled back.
“As they are busy going in the wrong direction, let’s welcome a new savant into our fam. Execute the kidnap just like I told you yesterday and make no mistakes, because you very well know what it'll cost you”
“Don’t worry boss, I’ll be cautious and won’t disappoint you” he replied confidently.
I gave a nod and he left the cabin. I trust Nolan completely since he has been with me from the beginning and he is smart enough to handle sudden consequences. Once this kidnap is successful, Dexter and his team will realise how stupid they all are when compared with my smartness. At least one person in his team will start doubting their chances of catching me and accept defeat. Because, life is too short to just chase a smart and powerful villain, who is impossible to get defeated.
I closed the footage and clicked on the folder icon with the name SAVANTS. As I scrolled down through the details of savants, old memories of how all of this began flashed through my mind.
I was going back home from work on a cold Saturday evening. Unfortunately, or say fortunate for now, I met with an accident when a dog suddenly came in my way. I woke up the next day on the hospital bed. Because of a bit serious head injury I had to be admitted in the hospital for three more days. I spent most of the time in talking with my fellow patient next to me.
He had a more severe head injury than mine. He kept talking more about robotics as though it was his profession, but the vague part was he was just a salesperson and it wasn’t even his hobby to do research on robotics. It was very strange to believe his words, and I had made up my mind that either he had memory loss or had hone crazy before of the injury. But after getting his brain scan report, the doctor informed that he had savant syndrome. I was intrigued by this syndrome and started doing more research on that.
As I learnt more about savants and their talents I started getting ideas on how to use them to my advantage. I made a list of savants and started spying on few to know their routine. I made a solid plan for the first kidnap. I shared my idea with the guys, whom I had selected to work under me on this mission. Few accepted immediately since they were interested in my plan, but others denied since few weren’t confident about my plan to work and others wanted to be my partners rather than workers under me. I had to deal with them in the right way and finally made them obey my orders.
I have faced many hurdles to reach this position right now. There were times when the ones working under were planning to backstab me and take over the leadership, but I was always smart enough to not to trust anyone completely and always kept an eye on each and everyone. The secret to my success is being smart, cautious and only trusting oneself completely throughout the journey.
