"I saw nothing," I said, trying to sound convincing. "I'm short-sighted, anyway." Elias and Jace looked at me, then back at each other, probably in disbelief. Elias's voice was low and questioning. "Why did you hide, then?" I thought fast, trying to come up with a plausible explanation. I remembered the small flower pot that I had accidentally knocked over while hiding. "Something fell down," I said, pointing to the pot. "I was just going to pick it up. I wasn't hiding." I looked up at them, trying to appear innocent. "What happened?
