Young love

Lira Three week later… This thing between Wade and I has blossomed so much that we can’t go on without talking to each other. Weekends are a real torture because we can’t see each other. We spend as much time as we can at school. I guess I am a real daredevil because the possibility of being caught and skinned alive by my own family is not enough to stop me from sneaking around with Wade. My heart dances when my phone rings. I have missed him. “Hello?” “Hey, Gorgeous.” There’s that husky voice. “You skipped history lessons,” I say and brace myself for his cocky response. “My woman cares,” he beams and I can even imagine his mischievous smile. “Wade.” “I had something to take care of.” I know that I should not ask, but everything about him piques my curiosity. “Are you going to tell me what that something is?” “Stern saw us kissing yesterday,” he responds and my heart jumps to my throat. “Oh Lord!” “Relax. I took care of it. I have something on him, he won’t open his mouth,” he reassures, but I can’t get my heart to slow down. “This is becoming dangerous, Wade.” We have been so careful, yet someone saw us. It is a matter of time before someone else does too. “I know, my love. Do you want to stop?” I don’t know why his question pierces through my heart. How can he even pose that question? “Fine. Bye, Wade,” I respond, my heart breaking. He clearly does not care, which means that I am risking my life for nothing. “Seriously? You are just going to give up so easily?” I don’t know why he sounds hurt when he gave me the option. “What do you expect me to say, Wade? You clearly don’t value this thing. You are even flirting with every skirt and go crazy when I as much as greet a guy,” I rant, bringing up something I had not planned to. I hate sounding like a nagging girlfriend. “Here we go again,” he laments. “Lira, we agreed that I do that to take the suspicion away from us,” he reminds me. “Babe, I am all yours. I will die for us. Don’t you believe me?” I momentarily close my eyes. I am becoming an emotional wreck. This sneaking around is getting to me. “I am sorry.” Him flirting with the girls was my idea. He is a known playboy. Him suddenly stopping will be suspicious and make his many aspiring Lunas watch him closer. I know that he is not sleeping with them, but it drives me crazy. “It is okay. I guess, I should be happy that you are jealous. We are going to camp in a few days’ time,” he reassures and reminds me of what we are both looking forward to. I can’t help but smile. It will be nice to meet outside of school. “I have a surprise for you.” “What is it?” “Patience, my love.” “Wade!” “Remind me again how you are still a virgin?” My whole face starts to burn. This is such a Wade thing to say. “I mean, you are so impatient,” he adds. “But, I don’t mind being your first…” “Good night, Wade,” I cut him off and he laughs. He knows that I am not comfortable talking about this stuff. He brought it up to distract me from the surprise he mentioned. “Night, my love.” I have just dropped the call when my fuming brother storms in. “Lenard?” I question when he hovers over me with his fists clenched. I don’t know why he is always so angry. “It is Alpha to you!” he screams with veins bulging on his neck. I just stare at him, too shocked to respond. He bulged into my room without even knocking. “Are you deaf?” He is screaming his lungs out as if I am deaf. Besides genes, this man has no alpha qualities. Our pack will be completely doomed if anything ever happens to dad. “No, Alpha Lenard.” He breathes heavily and continues to hover over me gritting his teeth, “I sent an Omega for you thirty minutes ago!” “Sorry. I was on a call.” The Omega did not say who was calling me, but I can’t say that or the poor woman will be dead meat. I am utterly shocked when he grabs my phone and smashing it on the floor before stepping on it like a mad man. It is in pieces by the time he stops. “You are always on the damn phone! All you do is gossip with those airheads friends of yours,” he roars. I am actually fine with him thinking that I am gossiping because the truth will have me killed. “Mathew is here. Come and meet him.” “Why?” Mathew is a pompous heir of M-pack Alpha. He is more insufferable than my brother and he thinks women were created to bow and serve him. Him and I hardly talk, more like I avoid him like plague, making Lenard’s whole reaction suspicious. I hope he is not trying to sell me off to his friend. He is capable of much worse this brother of mine. “You do not question me, Lira. Come down this this moment!” he roars, but I dig on my heels. I don’t take kindly to being ordered around. I also hate Mathew with passion. Not only does he have no boundaries, he is also creepy. “I will pass, thank, you.” His whole demeanour turns deadly before he grabs my neck and strangles me, “Excuse me?” In a split second I am dangling on the air and trying to peel away his hand that is currently cutting off my oxygen supply. I can feel myself slowly suffocating. He quickly lets go when footsteps approach the door. “Dad!” I beam and rush to my old man when he peeps at the wide open door. I am safe! “Lenard?” Dad questions. He knows that all this bully ever does is bother me. “Mathew is here. I wanted Lira to come down and meet him,” he explains with a calm voice as if he never yelled or tried to strangle me. “Is he here on a royal business?” Dad questions with his eyes narrowed. He must also find this odd. Lenard shakes his head. “No, just visiting.” “He is your friend. There is no need for Lira to meet him,” Dad points out and Lenard shrugs, leaving me letting out a sigh of relief. “Don’t mind him, Angel. He is still nursing his ego,” Dad tries to justify my bully brother’s actions. “He will be fine once he gets his mate back.” I shrug, but I doubt it. Lenard was never a friendly person even when we were kids. He once killed my cat because he wanted to paint something red and its blood was a perfect colour. His mate rejected him three months back. He thinks it is because she is from W-pack, but I am certain that she did not want to be mated to a psychopath. I would have done the same if I were in her shoes. “Being rejected by your mate hurts like hell and leaves an eternal void and bitterness. You will understand when you have your wolf,” Dad explains, making excuses for Lenard as usual. This happened to him too years ago. That is the sole root of the animosity between us and the W-pack. It is also the reason why he lets everything Lenard does slide. We are still talking when a loud sound of an unmistakable bomb fills the air. The windows shutter and the earth shakes. The air is soon filled by horrific screams and howling. We are under siege! My heart hammers against my chest. We have been attacked before, but never with bombs. Wolves always fight fair and square. Bombs and guns is the first. This is bad. “Get your bag, follow protocol,” Dad instructs right when his Beta shows up. “It is W and H-packs, Alpha. The cowards have reverted to human ways. They have bombed the whole of west side.” Dad nods before planting a kiss on my forehead and instructs me to go. I know the evacuation protocol like the back of my hand. All of us without our wolves know it. “Let’s go. We will fight them with everything we have. To our last breath,” I hear Dad tell his Beta. My heart shutters. Being with Wade made me hope that maybe our packs would one day get along. It is never going to happen, not after this.
