Party

Lira I am pacing in my room still stuck on the kiss with Wade when I receive a private call. “Hello?” “Thinking about your man?” I don’t have to ask who the caller is. I know that irritatingly smooth husky voice only too well. “How did you get this number?” I ask, irritated. He just has a way of getting to me. “Why would I not have my woman’s number?” I shake my head at his question as if he can see me. “I am not …” “That kiss you are reminiscing about says otherwise,” he interjects. How the hell did he know that I was thinking about the stupid kiss? I roll my eyes, he is being presumptive as usual. “I am not…” “Do not go for supper at Cass,” he interjects again and commands me. How the heck did we get here? “What?” I am shocked that he knows my plans for this evening. The girls and I planned on going there to celebrate Taz birthday. I guess one of them told the i***t. “Trust me, okay.” The way he says this sounds sincere, which makes me very suspicious. Even if I was lazy to go, now I am definitely attending that party. “Trust you? Are you for real?” L and W-packs are like water and oil. Us trusting each other is laughable. “Woman, please!” he actually snaps at me. The nerve of this man! “I have to go,” he adds and drops the call. I am left more confused. How the hell did Wade get my number and why is he calling me? I can’t help but roll my eyes at the answer. He is probably hooking up with one of the girls. He is hot and all, but I don’t get why they are all so crazy about him. It is just after six in the evening when Hawk drops me at Cass. He does his usual scanning of the place and leaves once satisfied that it is safe. “Lira!” Taz beams the moment I walk to the reserved table. I embrace her and hand her a gift bag. “Happy birthday, girlfriend!” “Oh, thank you, Lira. Have a seat.” I take the seat opposite Taz because the other girls have already filled the ones closer to her. “Ehh…I invited some of the guys. I hope you don’t mind.” I frown at her words. It is not like I can dictate whom she can invite. “Me? It’s your party.” “Warren and Wade are also attending,” she blurts out. Now I get why she thought I would mind. “Fine, as long as I don’t have to sit next to them, or there will be no party,” I say the moment the two irritatingly hot W-pack boys walk in. “It is a birthday party. I am certain that we can be civil, Princess,” Wade says before sitting on my right and his cousin on my left. I let out a sigh. There is over ten people on the table, I can just ignore these two until the event is over. “Happy birthday, Dearest Taz. A gift from us,” Wade says charmingly before pushing an exquisite Tarry boutique envelope towards Taz. “Oh my word! Oh my word! Thank you!” Taz beams excitedly while the girls exchange envious looks. We all know that whatever voucher is in there is worth over three thousand dollars because the shop is so expensive. All their vouchers start at that price. “You are welcome, Beautiful.” Taz blushes, while I feel like throwing up. I don’t know why his charming voice is getting to me. We only kissed, it does not make him less of a playboy ass. “You look great by the way. Beige suits you,” Wade whispers to my ear, making my cheeks burn. Why the hell is he flirting with me? Him and I are not even supposed to talk to each other. The last thing I need is the girls thinking that there is something between us. That will definitely end up on social media and we will both be dead meat. I need to keep a distance him. With my mind made up, I look across the table to the two people I know will get me away from him. “Tasha and Sasha, do you two mind swapping places with me and sitting with your eye candies?” I ask with an innocent smile and get up when the twins jump to their feet. The two are crazy about Warren and Wade. They even write about it on the school tabloid. We read all about how they will be their wives in the future. I have just pushed back my chair to make way when Wade grabs my hand and pulls me back down. “Get your hands off me!” I hiss, glaring at him. He smiles as if I have just complemented him. “What is with the animosity, Princess? I am sure that you can be nice on your friend’s birthday,” he says and I want to slap him hard. Now I look like the unstable trouble maker. “Come on, Lira, Wade is being a gentleman. Can’t you be nice to him just once?” Taz jumps in. I look at her, utterly amazed at how all this has become my fault. She, of all my friends knows how Wade has been a torn on my side. I guess the Tarry boutique gift has made her amnestic or she just does not want the twins near Wade. The rest of the girls nod in agreement. I should not be surprise, they are all Wade’s groupies. “Taz is right. We know that your packs don’t get along, but you don’t have to be so vindictive,” Sasha says. I sometimes wonder how I am friends with these gullible idiots. Wade flashed them a smile and they have turned on me. “Excuse me?” I ask, ready to break some dumb twin’s neck. “You know Wade did not even take your clothes today at school and you accused him,” Tasha adds. “Yes, your clothes had fallen on the other side of the shower,” Maggie also jumps in. I guess I have no friends, which means I don’t have to be here. I get up, grab my purse and head out. “Lira!” Taz calls behind me but I continue walking. I have never had problems not having friends. I am heading to the exit when Wade grabs my arm and pulls me to the bathroom and kicks the door shut. “What do you want?” I ask and back away when he approaches me. The expression on his face enough to tell me that this is yet another thing that could get us murdered by our own families. “I told you not to attend the party,” he says firmly as if he has some authority over me. “I don’t listen to you. Now get off my face!” I snap, hoping to getting him storming away. I can’t afford to have someone find us together in the bathrooms. “I am trying to save your life damn it!” This i***t actually snaps back “My life is none of your business! You would not save me even if I was drowning.” He lets out a sigh and gets closer to me. “The chef has been paid to poison your food. I don’t know if it is the food only. You are not safe here.” I look at him, shocked. Hawk screened this place for danger, but he would not have screened the food. “Why are you telling me this?” I would be grateful if any other person told me this, but this is Wade of W-pack. His pack has been trying to wipe us out for years now. There must a catch here. “Isn’t it obvious? I have feelings for you.” I can’t help but laugh. “You have feelings for the whole female species, Wade. You are the definition of a male escou..” My words are swallowed up by his passionate kiss. I am irritated by my treacherous body that seems to react to his every touch. We are both breathless by the time I mount the courage to break off the kiss. “Please go home, Lira. You are not safe here.” I only see honesty in those dark piercing eyes. He looks terrified for me. It is hard for me to believe that this is the same man who has made me a permanent detention pupil. Have I completely misunderstood him all along? I have so many questions about this, but I only nod my head. “I will call you before you sleep,” he says when I open the door to leave. My heart jumps to my throat when I almost bump into Hawk. Oh Lord, this is bad.
