“How was your show?” Briar asked as they came into the house. Hadlee’s ribs were aching from laughing at the show and her belly was aching from all the good food she’d eaten. She was curled under Eric’s arm, her head against his shoulder, a smile still on her face. Despite the initial part of the show and how irritated she still was at Eric’s crap about needing discipline, she was feeling good in the moment. She looked at her mother and tried not to laugh. Briar was standing at the foot of the stairs, her hair in a ponytail, a container of ice cream in one hand with a spoon jutting out of her mouth and in her other hand she was carrying a jar of pepperoncini. She was wearing pyjama bottoms and a crop top and her slightly rounded belly protruding. Her eyes were big and wide as she grinned
