Wynter’s POV As I sat on the phone with my mother, I broke down completely, telling her everything as the words fell like verbal vomit from my mouth. From losing my place, then my job to lying about my credentials and taking a job I wasn’t qualified for before it all blew up on me and now I’m hiding in a room in my former boss’ sister’s house. My mother listened to every word, not interrupting me until I wore myself out, for the first time feeling the burden of my choices leave my shoulders a little. She didn’t judge, didn’t shout at me, but I could hear the disappointment in her voice as she asked why I hadn’t told her, why I had tried to deal with it all alone.
