***Poppy*** The weekend came pretty quickly, and I was so glad for it so that the bickering would stop for the day. My stepsisters have been at each other's throats all week. I could swear they were children and not young adults, with how they act, and to add to it, today was the day of the event, and they were trying to kill each other while getting ready. I still didnt know what was all going on and what the event was being held for. All I know is it was some big dinner for a special guest of the Alpha. But all memebers were required to be there, well, all but me, Trinity told me I had to be at the pack house no later than three this afternoon. I was filled with relief knowing I wasnt going to be here while they finished up. It was going to turn into an all-out war with them two, so if I didnt have to be here, then I was more than happy to take my leave. Glancing at the time, I had an hour, the pack house wasnt far from our house, so it would only take me ten minutes to get there, I could hide out in my room a bit longer. When a scream filtered up to my room, I jumped up, grabbed my shoes, and nope, I will go early before blood is drawn. Coming down, I tried slipping by their doors, but I wasnt that lucky, "And where do you think you are, Poppy seed?" Tabitha called out, drawing the attention of my stepmother. "What are you doing?" She placed her hands on her hips, Straightening up. "Pack house, Ma'am," "I told you three, it's only two, so why are you trying to sneak out early?" "I thought they would need the help, making sure things are done, I know im in the kitchen, im sure it's busy in there, I just wanted to make a good impression on the Alpha in your name that I showed up early," She held my stare for a few seconds before she let out a huff, "Fine, makesure you tell them I sent you early," Bowing my head, "Yes, Ma'am." "Bye, Poppy seed," I heard them snicker out as I started down the steps. They all broke out in laughter, Stepping out, the same relief washed over me the minute I was out of the house and away from them. Slipping on my shoes, I started my way towards the pack house. The sun felt so good on my face as I walked. I could see the pack house, it was busy alright, memebers were darting all over making sure things were done right, I also noticed there was a lot more warriors around the pack house, than normal, Im going to take a stab and say the guest who is coming is a important person if the ALpha is pulling out all the stops, Slipping around all the chaos in the front i went to the side enterance, it lead right into the kitchen, Stepping in, I stopped when I took in the craziness going on. Omegas were running around like there was a fire somewhere, "Poppy," I jumped when someone called my name. Looking over, I saw Mary hurrying towards me. She pulled me into a hug, Mary was the head cook here in the pack house. She has a daughter my age, we used to be friends, but that changed as well when dad left me. Pulling back her hands on my shoulders, "Dear, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be getting ready?" Shaking my head, "No, Trinity told me I was needed in the kitchen for tonight," I watched as a frown appeared on her face, and she shook her head. "God that woman, I swear," She pulled me to the side, "Poppy, the Alpha stated that all unmated females were to attend this event tonight," "Oh." I looked around the kitchen, noticing that it was all older females in here, "I didnt know," I bit my lip, "But it's okay, I dont mind helping," She let out a breath, "Hunnie, if the Alpha finds out you didnt show up out there, he will be pissed." "Mary, I hardly think he would notice I wasnt there, Not with everyone else here, I have no problem staying in here, besides Trinity told me I was to be in here, and im not looking to give her any reason to be mad at me, If the Alpha asked just tell him i wasnt well, I promise I wont leave the kitchen i will saty in here, Plus Im not a full wolf, so i think i can sit this one out," She gave me a look. She knows how Trinity can be, but she also knows I wont rock the boat. "Fine, just makesure you do not show yourself out there. I do not think the Alpha will be happy with the way you look, and with this guest coming, he is on edge and wanting everything to be perfect." "Who is coming? By the looks of this place, it must be someone of importance." "Poopy, hunnie, you need to get out more," She chuckled, "The Lycan prince Rafe is coming here, he is touring all the packs doing a check-in with them as well as looking for his mate, as he hasn't found her yet." I felt goosebumps at the sound of his name. The royal Lycans ran this whole territory. They had won it a long time ago in the Great War. We do not have a Werewolf Alpha King, not since the Lycans won, but they treated us well, they took care of the territory, and helped the lower-level packs become better and grow. And now knowing who was coming, it all made sense, and I was definitely not going out there. No way was I going to be a part of this. I was only a half wolf, so I didnt even fall in the same category as the others who stood a better chance at being his mate, "All the more reason for me to remain in here," I smile at her, but she gives me that look, the one where she is telling me to stop it, "What do you need me to do?" Her hand comes up patting my cheek, "You deserve so much more than this; your parents would be proud to see you pushing through this all." I bite back the tears at the mention of them, "How about you help with chopping up the veggies and fruit?" Giving her a nod. She spun around when someone called her name. I made my way over to the table on the far side, where all the stuff was out, organizing it all so I could have room to work. I got started, I drowned out the background noise as I focused on what I was doing, setting the bowls on the other table when they would get full, I felt the air shift, causing the hair on my arms to stand up. Everyone else must have felt it as well, as their posture changed, You could feel the tension wrap around you; the authority that washed over you meant someone of the highest rank had arrived. It was enough to make you want to bow and submit even though no one but us workerswase in the room. Pushing it aside, I continued with my work. The others started to rush out with the different dishes when Mary came in, clapping her hands, she urged them out through the doors. making sure to remind them to be proper, I didnt even bother them, I turned and grabbed up the dirty dishes, moving over to load the dishwasher. The kitchen was set up with all industrial appliances, seeing as there were so many to cook for, and when these kinda of events happen, once it was loaded, I started it knowing it would be done in like forty minutes. I continued to move around the kitchen, cleaning up what I could.
