“Urgh, I can never be at peace with you here. What the hell are you doing here? What do you want from me again?” Arya asked Ivan, who was seated on the couch admiring everything in the office.

“You have a beautiful office, your dad must be proud of you. I was passing by and I saw the need to come to say hi to you. You know it is not bad to say hi. I saw you on TV and I can’t say how proud of you I am. You are a star and you are going places." Ivan said, and she chuckled.

Arya was not expecting to see Ivan in her office that day. It had been years since they last saw each other and the last time they were together nothing was great.

Her parents were against the whole relationship and, more so, her mother. She was always talking about wanting the best for her daughter and, dating a man of her status was the best for her and she did everything possible to see them apart.

Arya and Ivan loved each other, even though they were studying in different schools, Arya would often ask her family's chauffer. But to drive her to Ivan’s place, despite her mom’s several attempts of warning her against seeing him, the two loved each other so much, but Ruth knew she had to do what did to make the two part ways and, since Ivan was so much into money or was in need of it, Ruth offered him money to walk away from her daughter and Ivan did exactly that, he needed money for his college fee and since his single mom could not afford to take him and since she was seriously and needed quick cash to take jet to the hospital, he had to betray Arya, their relationship and walk away from her, the money was so much and so tempting.

“I know all that, you don’t need to remind me of what I know, I just asked you one question though. What do you want from me and what are you doing here?” She asked, already bored with his presence. Ivan had the urge to see her. Since their last encounter, he had never had the chance to meet and talk to her. It was not possible, since the breakup was a nasty one.

“I just came to check on you and see how you are doing. It is not a bad thing to check on the people you care for. I honestly missed you, that is why, and I also just came back from California. I just graduated about a week ago." He said

and Arya wished he did not have to remind her of the past and how broken she was because of him, even though some part of her still missed him, but she had promised herself that she was not going to have to think about him and give him credit for what he did to her, he broke her heart and that was what mattered and what happened, but like they always say, first love is always so strong and it is not easy to get over so easily, she was still trying to heal even after almost five years of their break up.

“I am fine, as you can see, Ivan. I don’t know what else you want from me. Please, I know what we talked about the last time. You broke up with me and it was nasty. I remember telling you that I didn’t want to see your face again, but here you are. You are in my office and swinging on my couch. I guess you have seen me. You should get out now. I am good, as you can see, and I have a lot of work to do right now despite the fact that I have a meeting with Hayley, so why don’t you just let me deal with this paperwork and stop talking to me?”

“I can watch you do the paperwork; I am not her to disturb or interrupt you in any way. I just wanted to see you and damn, you look more beautiful, especially the way you are swinging on that office chair like a boss, makes you look like a goddess." He said, with a smile on his face, and Arya sneered.

“Okay, I know I look good, I am always looking good. So that shouldn’t be the reason for you to stay back here and start giving me compliments. I know I am beautiful and I feel sorry for you because you lost what you can’t and will never get back, but right now, I just want you to get the hell out of my office and let me concentrate on my work. You have seen what you wanted and I urge in good peace that you should leave my office and don’t come back here not now and not ever.”

“So, you are still with that friend of yours, maybe just a fair warning or a reminder. As a person who cares so much for you, maybe you should think about choosing a good friend for yourself. That b***h doesn’t even deserve to be your friend. I wonder how you even cope with her after all she has done for you. You should go back to the board and think about your decision. She is not worthy of being your friend and I thought you would have realized that by now, but unfortunately you still don’t. Anyway, I don’t want to get involved, just think about what I said to you.” He said and stood up from the couch.

Arya did not know what he meant by what he said but she still did not trust him, not after what he did to her. She still felt like he had a point, though some part of her still did not trust her, she still had that grudge against him and it was not easy to let go of the past.

“I get that you are trying to show me your good side, but I don’t want you to choose friends for me. Hayley is my friend and no one is going to change that fact, so just get out. I would like to get back to work.” She said as she stood up and opened the door for him.

“Okay, as you said Arya, but one day you will remember this day. I don’t want you to stop being friends with her, but I just want you to be careful with her and around her. She is not what you think she is. Just take care.”

“If that is your way of trying to get your ass back to me, then I think you have failed terribly. Just be a man and stop acting like some immature man. Hayley is not the reason why you came back here, so just get out and please don’t come back. I don’t want to see you here ever again. I am going to talk to the security, so for your own good, don’t make me go through all that. Please go and don’t forget to leave when you go.” She said and did not wait for his response.

She simply pushed him out and slammed the door on his face.

Damn, the guts though, what does he want from me now and what did he mean by what he said that I should be careful about Hayley and that she is not who I think he is? Arya asked herself a lot of questions after he had left, even though she still did not trust any word coming from his mouth but she had known Ivan for long to know that he would never lie to her.

Just as she got back to working, her cell phone rung, it was Hayley and she remembered that she had forgotten to tell the receptionist to let Hayley in, in case she showed what she was hoping she did not show up because she had so much paper work to work on. Her father’s PA was still working at the company, but she was thinking of getting her own PA since she wanted someone she could trust, someone she could get along with, but she still did not have a choice. She had to work with her as she looked for a better person for the position.

“Hey.” She said after she received the call.

“Arya! It is the first day I am getting here and they wouldn’t let me in. You know how embarrassing it is to be locked outside the building and my heels are killing me. Could you get your ass down here and let us go for lunch? I am starving!” She said, half shouting. That was the typical Hayley, always dramatic.

“Okay, relax, I just got caught up, tell the receptionist to show you the guest waiting area. I am meeting you downstairs in a few minutes. Let me get my handbag, then I will be there.” She said, and then counterchecked everything to make sure that everything was okay before she picked up her handbag and she made sure that her credit cards were intact before she locked the door behind her and walked into the PA’s room.

“Clear my afternoon schedule, I am going out for lunch with my friend but I will be back in an hour. There are some papers on my desk, and I forwarded some documents on your email. I want you to counter check and make sure that everything is okay, print them out and send the documents to my email, then the print outs counter-check out. I want you to scan them and send them to the email I have sent you and you should go for lunch too.” She said to Danny, the PA.

“Okay, ma’am.” She said with a lot of respect, she had not interacted with Arya and did not know how to handle her yet, so she was just trying to be respectful.

“Okay and just call me Miss Whitlock, the ma’am name makes me feel like an old woman's.”

“Okay, Miss Whitlock, then I just received a call from one of the business associates, he wants to meet with you at three.”

“I think I just told you to cancel all my afternoon schedule, tell him I won’t be around and schedule the meeting tomorrow mid-morning please.”

“But Miss…”

“No buts, do what I told you to do, I am the boss and I think I am the one to give you instructions. Now will you stop being resistant and do what I just told you. I will be back in an hour. I expect everything to be ready and, oh, it is lunch time. I think you should break for lunch. I don’t want you to do a shoddy job” she said, and then walked out of the office.

“b***h!” Danny muttered under his breath.

Arya had just become the worst nightmare that she was hoping would not. Everything was going to be hard in the office, but she needed that job to take care of her sick mom and take care of the bills and also pay for her sister’s college fees.
