Daisy’s POV “Wait, so it’s true? All four? You’re mated to all four of them?” Gabrielle gasped, her eyes gleaming with awe. “Now the whole world knows,” I grumbled. What was I supposed to say? Yes, I’m fated to them, but I’ve spent the past few days trying to avoid them at all costs? That I didn’t want to be tied to them, no matter how intense the bond was? “Wow!” Gabriella whispered. “No- that can’t be true! There has to be a mistake or something!” Georgina shrieked, her eyes narrowing at me like I’d stolen something precious from her. “Why her? She’s an omega! Your adopted sister! This- this doesn’t make any sense!” She continued, her body basically shaking from all that pent-up anger. “Watch your tone, Georgina, you’re speaking about our mate,” Nicholas warned, his face darkening. Nicholas's harsh tone caused Georgina to flinch. She took a step back, looking baffled and trying to process what had just happened. “You’re defending her? over me?” She asked in disbelief. “I’ve been loyal to this pack, to you four- and you choose her instead?” Georgina’s voice cracked, and the tears she had struggled to keep at bay rolled down her face. I wasn’t sure if she was having a meltdown or trying to get sympathy from the quadruplets. Nathaniel’s nose was scrunched in annoyance; Christopher looked like the drama amused him. Of course, being the certified playboy among his brothers, he would find it amusing to watch a girl fight over him, and I most definitely wasn’t about to give him that pleasure by arguing with Georgina. Donovan looked pissed, while Nicholas, the mysterious one, had an unreadable expression, his hand crossed and eyes dazed. “That’s not how the mate bond works, and besides, the world doesn’t revolve around you,” Donovan snapped. Georgina’s lips parted to defend herself, but Donovan’s death glare quickly shut her up. “This trip just got a lot more interesting,” Gabriella whispered, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. I didn’t have the energy to respond, and Georgina’s furious glare and Mira’s suspicious silence said otherwise. The quadruplets began setting up the bonfire. Gabriella switched position to sit beside me, her face still beaming with amazement. “I can already tell my twin is brewing some kind of drama,” she whispered. “But hey, at least you’ve got four very attractive bodyguards to protect you,” she chuckled. *** We sat in uncomfortable silence around the bonfire while munching on freshly roasted marshmallows. I felt really nervous, feeling the quadruplets' eyes on me, watching me while I ate awkwardly. It was a surprise my hands weren’t fidgeting from all the tension. I took a quick look up away from my food and almost flinched when I saw Georgina and Mira’s icy glare darting between me and the quadruplets. Why did the moon goddess throw me in the middle of all this drama? It’s not fair. I didn’t choose this. I didn’t ask for this. I didn’t ask to be their mate! Dinner ended, and I stood quickly. “I’ll clean up,” I muttered, desperate for a distraction from the chaos going on inside my head. “We’d love to help, right Mira?” Georgina asked in an overly sweet tone. “Yes, it wouldn’t be fair to let you clean up alone,” Mira smirked. When did these girls learn anything about being fair? I nodded wordlessly and turned my back to them to pick up the plastic plates and cups on the floor while the others returned to their tents until the two girls and I left. To no one’s surprise, they didn’t lift a single dirt and kept shifting their body weight like they were struggling to decide on something. I decided to pay no attention to them and continued cleaning, disposing of the plastic into our recycling bag. The attack came out of nowhere. I yelped in shock when I suddenly felt two hands grabbing my hair in a ponytail and pulling me with so much force I lost my balance. Unlike the muddy sands I had expected to land on, I felt the burning flames of the bonfire. I let out a deafening scream when a searing pain filled me. Out of reflex, I quickly rolled over, away from the fire. My breath came in a ragged gasp, and the acrid smell of burnt fabric filled my nostrils. With eyes wide in terror, I scrambled to my feet and hastily slapped at the burnt patches on my thick sweater. My scream must have alerted the others because everyone came running from their tents to see what the commotion was. My eyes were blurred with tears, and I fell back to my knees in agony, wondering what I had done to deserve this life. What if I’d been born a beta? Would they treat me differently? Would I fit in then? “What happened? Who did this to you?” Nathaniel's voice boomed in anger. My teary eyes flickered to Georgina, knowing she was the one who had pushed me in since I had seen a flash of her blue clothes before I had fallen. Georgina threw me a warning look, silently threatening me not to say anything. I wanted to yell at her, slap her even, just anything to defend myself, but a core memory of my past came rushing back. *FLASHBACK* “Did you like my gift?” thirteen-year-old Georgina asked with a toothy smile while the two minors behind her stared at me in mockery. I looked back at my locker and felt my anger rise when I stared back at my shredded school supplies and the words “Loser, you don’t belong here!” written with a marker on my locker. Everyone had stopped to stare, point, and laugh, like Georgina said the funniest word known to mankind, and that was when I snapped. I quickly grabbed her books, which she carried with manicured hands, and began stomping on themlike a maniac on drugs. I didn’t stop until all her books were completely ripped apart. “How dare you!?” Georgina gasped in shock. She pulled by my hair and began dragging it like her aim was to rip every strand out of my scalp. Being a beta’s daughter, she was stronger than my and wouldn’t stop not matter how I trashed around trying to get her hands off. I had a few moments of relief when I saw the quadruplets coming our way. I was expecting them to be my knight in shining armor. “What’s going on?” Donovan the eldest of the quadruplets asked, his fifteen year old frame easily towering over the both of us and I had seen him as my hero. “It’s Georgina, she started it! She ripped everything I had in my locker!” I yelped in my squeaky voice. “So you ripped her books because of that?” Nathaniel the youngest spat. I flinched, not expecting that reaction. “Do you not realize who you are? An omega! Stupid. You deserve every bad thing because all you’ve done is make every where gloomy since you forced yourself into our world” Nicholas scolded. My eyes darted to the two other brothers for help excepting at least one of them to come to my aid. Donovan avoided eye contact with me while Christopher glared at me. “Apologize to Georgina right now!” Christopher ordered and my eyes widened in shock. “I would do no such thing! She started everything!” I snapped in annoyance and attempted to stomp off but Nicholas' hard grip pulled me back. “I guess this omega needs some lessons,” Nicholas smirked. “Lucky for you I’m ready to give you one.” He pushed me to the floor and took a picture of crying helplessly on the floor. “Aw cute. It would look better on the school group chat. Everyone’s going to have a field day reminding you of who you are.” Nicholas grinned evily. And that they did, the insult came from left and right and everyone at school distanced themselves from me like I repulsed them. *** “Daisy!” Christopher’s concerned voice snapped be back to the present. His hands gripped my shoulders, his eyes scanning my face. “Tell me what happened, darling” Darling?
