Daisy’s POV
“Take a seat, love,” Luna Skyla called, pulling me out of the trance I had been stuck in.
The quadruplet eyes followed me like hawks as I made my way to the empty chair directly opposite Nathaniel, the youngest quadruplets seated beside his brothers. The large dining hall seats twenty-one people, including the three alphas, Luna, and their sons, the quadruplets. Next, the beta family with their twin 18-year-old daughters, Georgina and Gabriella. After them were the Beta family and their son Micheal, who was the quadruplet's age, and their 18-year-old daughter Mira.
Lastly, there was me.
I suddenly felt the overwhelming pull from the mate bond, and every atom of my body longed to nestle into my mate's arms and allow them to claim me.
But of course, that was far from happening, not when my mate happened to be not one but all four of the quadruplet alpha sons who absolutely hated my guts!
Why would the moon goddess set me up for disappointment by making them my mate?
“Did I hear wrong, or did Daisy just whisper, mate?” Georgina asked with annoyance, and her eyes darted between me and the boys questioningly. The low chatter among the elders halted immediately, and all eyes turned in my direction.
“What are you talking about, Georgina?” Her mom asked softly.
“I heard Daisy declare her mate while staring at Nat, Don, Nick, and Chris like she had seen a f*****g ghost” Georgina crossed her arms, her voice filled with irritation.
“But that’s not true, right hon?” Mira asked with a pout. She leaned forward, and her lips curved into a coy smile as she stared at Nicholas. I rolled my eyes in annoyance and tried to ignore the weird pool of jealousy forming in the pit of my stomach. The mate bond has definitely started messing with my head.
“It’s not true. You heard wrong, Georgina,” I mumbled before Nicholas could answer. I stabbed my meat with more force than necessary, diverting my sudden anger to my innocent meal.
“Don’t be silly, Georgina. The quadruplets are her brothers,” The Beta chastised, and the chat between the elders resumed once again.
Well only on papers, but that surely made being mated to them more strange.
I kept my head bowed to my food, picking on my meal while avoiding the burning stares of the quadruplets. I knew they felt the bond, too, but I wasn’t going to risk embarrassing myself by confessing I was mated to them when they would reject me anyway. I would rather not face public humiliation.
I stole a quick glance at Nathaniel, and what I saw was unlike what I had expected to see. His intense hazel eyes held hurt. My eyes darted to his brothers, and somehow, they seemed sad by my statement. I frowned, confused; I had expected them to be relieved I wasn’t clinging onto them.
I hadn’t paid more attention to this in the past but on getting a closer look I realized how much hotter they had become over the years. They had always been known for being attractive and had girls lining up desperately for them including *cough* Mira and Georgina *cough* But maybe because I only saw them as my bullies who were never going to accept me as part of their family I had failed to notice just how strikingly handsome they were.
The identical quadruplets had high cheekbones that carved a face that could have been chiseled from a stone. With light pink full lips that drew you in. Unlike the others, Donovan had a sliver lip piercing which gave him a more edgy look. They all had what looked like the silkiest blonde hair known to mankind, with a black tint adorning a couple strands on Christopher’s hair.
But it was their eyes that took my breath away, they were impossibly intense, a bright hazel that didn’t just look at you, but through you.. They made my chest tighten, as though they saw something I wasn’t ready to reveal. Nicholas the meanest of the group had tattoos coating his muscular biceps down to his wrist.
A slow lift in Nicholas’s lips was all it took for me to realize he had caught me staring at him. I felt my cheeks reddened and I quickly cast my eyes downward in embarrassment. I heard a low chuckle followed and I silently prayed for the grounds to open and swallow me whole.
What was wrong with me? I shouldn’t be thinking of any of the quadruplets that way! They had been nothing but rude to me all my childhood and just because they stopped bullying me four years ago after they were sent to boarding school didn’t make it right. I need to get a grip!
“I have announcement to make,” Alpha Ryder said, his voice capturing the attention of everyone seated at the table.
“About what father?” Donovan grumbled. He seemed bored like he rather not be in his own welcome dinner. Well that made two of us.
“I and your father talked about the usual family vacation and we thought we should try something differently this Christmas. We thought it might be more fun for you all if we step back and allow you kids enjoy your vacation at the private villa without us.” Luna Skyla grinned.
“We’re not Kids anymore mom” Christopher snickered.
My fork stilled mid-cut, and I felt my pulse quicken. A vacation? With them? At a private villa, no less? This had to be some cruel joke or the Moon Goddess playing her twisted games again.
“Who else will be joining us?” Gabriella asked curiously.
“Only the people here at this table,” Luna Skyla replied with a bright smile.
“Perfect.” Mira’s grin widened and she shifted her gaze to Nicholas who completely ignored her. Her fingers toying with the stem of her glass. “I think we’ll make the most of it.” She said suggestively not in the least bothered by Nicholas' cold attitude.
“Is it okay if I stay back?” I asked Luna Skyla, my voice unfortunately squeaky because of how nervous I was.
“Sure, Daisy. Your presence isn’t necessary anyways” Georgina smirked.
“Don’t speak to her like that,” Nathaniel scolded, his glare icy it made Georgina flinch.
I blinked in shock. Nathaniel, of all people, defending me? Had hell froze over?
“Daisy this is meant to be a fun gateway for you guys. No one would be left behind” Luna Skyla said, her tone leaving no room for arguments.
“Fine,” I muttered in defeat and continued munching on my food until the dinner was over. All except the quadruplets and I had retreated to the living room. Just as I was about to make a run for it to avoid being alone with the quadruplets, a firm, warm hand grabbed my wrist, halting me mid-step.
The touch sent an electric jolt through my body, and I froze, feeling my heart rate spike up. Slowly, I turned my head, only to find Donovan standing impossibly close, his hazel eyes darkened with something I couldn’t quite place.
“Running away little mate?” he murmured.
