Daisy’s POV
“Running away little mate?” Donovan murmured.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said under my breath and quickly pulled my hands away from his grip like it physically burned me.
I looked up at the quadruplet in fright; with a height of over six feet, they easily towered over my five feet five inches frame. I knew they wouldn’t physically hurt me, but subconsciously, I waited for their outburst and for them to curse at me for being mated to them like it was all my fault.
“Why did you lie about not being mated to us?” Nicholas asked coldly, not one to beat around the bush.
I flinched at his tune. So that’s what this is about? They were pissed I denied being mated to them because they wanted to have the pleasure of rejecting me instead of the other way around? Or were they going to accept the mate bond to boss me around when I became their Luna?
I shivered at the thought of never experiencing the type of love I had seen Luna Skyla’s husbands shower her with.
“Relax, Nick, you’re going to scare our mate off,” Christopher tsked. He brushed a grumbling Nicholas aside before taking his place in front of me.
“What do you want?” I choked out.
“Isn’t it obvious? You,” Christopher answered with a flirty smile.
If they weren’t my bullies in the past, I would have been swooned by his adorable smile, but instead, I felt a sudden anger overshadow the strong pull of the mate bond that had threatened to mess with my head and morals. How could they think that I would forget what happened four years ago just because we were mated? Did they think I would let them mark me so that they could disrespect me when I was already tied to them?
I wasn’t going to give them that power over me.
Taking a deep breath to brace myself for the pain I knew would follow, I finally uttered the words every werewolf despised. “I, Daisy, reject you, Donovan, Nicholas, Christopher, and Nathaniel as my-“ My words were quickly interrupted by Nathaniel’s hand covering my lips.
My body froze at the contact, and an unfamiliar sensation ran down my body, making me suddenly feel hot all over. No, focus, Daisy! Complete the rejection, and you’ll be free from these stupid games the mate bond was playing.
“What are you doing?” Nathaniel demanded, his hands sliding downwards until he cupped my chin before lifting it so I was staring into his eyes. He looked hurt like I had just stabbed him in an open wound, and for a second, I felt guilty. My lips parted in an attempt to finish the rejection, but I couldn’t get a word out. Not when Nathaniel’s scent was completely consuming my senses.
I needed to get away from them immediately! They are not good for my body.
My eyes darted like a deer in headlights, and I caught sight of his brothers, who were also fixated on me. Donovan stared at me with his hands folded, his eyes unreadable. Next to him was Christopher, who looked at me like I had just repeatedly stomped all over his ocean-sized ego. On the other hand, Nicholas had taken a step back, and his face was contorted in pain.
Unsure of what to do, I quickly distanced myself away from Nathaniel and murmured a flimsy excuse of going to pack my bags before running out of the dining hall.
What on earth has the moon goddess set me up for??
THIRD PERSON POV
The quadruplets were silent for a minute after Daisy had run out, trying to process their chaotic thoughts. They stood frozen in shock. Nathaniel’s hand fell to his side, still tingling from where he’d touched her moments ago.
“She was going to reject us—“ Christopher uttered in disbelief.”
“And we deserved it; it’s all our fault,” Nathaniel signed and ran his hands through his messy blonde harshly as if he didn’t care if he ripped them off in the process. He took a seat at one of the chairs present, and Christopher and Donovan followed suit.
“No, you deserve it; you bullied her. What did I do to her?” Donovan grumbled exasperatedly. Donovan felt like his pride had been stepped on because not once had he imagined his mate, who he had desperately longed for, would reject him. Heck, he hadn’t bullied her like any of his brothers and felt like he was suffering the sins of his brothers. His jaw clenched so tight it was a wonder he hadn’t cracked a tooth.
“I don’t recall you standing up for her ever, so you’re just as guilty as the rest of us. Don’t you dare try to play the innocent card,” Nicholas grunted, his gaze still on the doorway Daisy had passed.
“You did the worst, bro; you’re f****d” Christopher scoffed. Nicholas bowed his head in regret, knowing his brother was right. He had been the most cruel to Daisy when they were younger, and he doubted she would ever forgive them.
“Damn, we really hurt our mate. Did you see how frightened she was when she looked at us?” Nathaniel groaned. The look in her eyes made him want to pull her closer, tell her how sorry he was, and whisper a promise that he would never hurt her. But he knew that would only freak her out even more. Nicholas paced back and forth, muttering curses under his breath.
“We have to win her over. Get her to forgive us,” Donovan said with determination.
“I agree; I can’t live with Daisy hating us forever, let alone rejecting us. We have to fix our f**k ups,” Nathaniel added.
“Good thing she’ll be stuck with us at the holiday villa. We’re going to earn her forgiveness on this trip,” Christopher smirked.
