Kari watched her father sink into the chair Evan had vacated, his shoulders slumping forward wearily. The dark bags under his eyes and the deepened lines across his face made him look older than she remembered. “How are you feeling?” he asked quietly, his blue eyes soft but searching. “Sore,” she admitted, watching him carefully. “But much better than yesterday.” Ty nodded. “You gave us all quite a scare.” Despite the calm in his tone, she heard the slight tremor in his voice and noticed the way his mouth pulled down at the corners. “I’m okay, Dad.” She reached out, offering her hand.
