Kari was still asleep when Ty mindlinked Evan, asking him to come to the office. Evan hesitated at the foot of the bed, watching her sleeping form. A soft knock pulled him from his trance.
He opened the door and found Mia.
“Dad figured you wouldn’t want to leave Kari alone, so he sent me to sit with her.” She brushed past him into the room.
“She’s sleeping,” Evan said lamely.
“Thanks, Captain Obvious,” she whispered with a smirk. “She’ll be fine. Go. It’s important.”
Evan sighed and gave Kari one last look before closing the door softly behind him. In the office he found Ty, Mark, and George, along with Joe and Dustin. He was surprised to see his father leaning against the wall next to the couch.
“Evan,” Ty said, his voice heavy from behind the desk, “how is Kari doing?”
