Chapter 4

1556 Words
I am walking in the woods at 11 PM and enjoying the quiet forest around me. Most people would be scared in the woods, especially in the dark, but it calms me down. Anyway, I don’t think there are more dangerous creatures than me around here, so I have nothing to worry about. ‘Happy birthday.’ A soft and beautiful female voice says, and I know exactly who it is. “Thank you. I was so excited to finally have you,” I tell her happily, my wolf. ‘You know that you don’t need to talk aloud, right?’ She says with a chuckle. ‘Yeah, right. I am just used to it.’ I tell her now in my head. ‘I am Angel, but I am sure you already know that. What’s your name?’ I asked her excitedly. ‘Yes, I know you Angel. I was with you all this time. I am Skylar.’ She says with a chuckle. ‘You have a beautiful name Skylar, I will call you Sky.’ ‘Sky? I like that.’ She says. ‘Are you ready to shift for the first time?’ ‘Totally, I can’t wait to see you, but honestly…. I am a bit scared too. Scared of the future, what will happen to us? Will everything change from today? I hope we will be able to hide from the hunters who killed our kind.’ I tell her worriedly. ‘Don’t worry Angel, now you have me to take care of you, everything will be alright. You are strong, but we are even stronger together,’ she says, and she is right. I don’t need to be alone anymore, because I will always have her with me. ‘Yes, I will.’ She says and I frown. ‘I didn’t even say anything.’ I tell her and she lets out a laugh. ‘I am in your head, silly. I can hear all your thoughts. I can feel all your feelings as well,’ she says, and I let out a chuckle. ‘That makes sense.’ I tell her. ‘We are here,’ she says, and I look around to see only the surrounding trees. The cave is still far from here. ‘Where?’ I asked her in confusion. ‘This is the middle of the forest and here the chance is the lowest that someone will hear us. Anyway, the echo of that cave will just make your screams louder.’ ‘Oh, that makes sense. What would I do without you?’ I asked her with a smile and sat down by a tree. ‘You are a smart and strong girl. I am sure you will manage everything even on your own,’ she says, and I smile to myself. ‘Thank you Sky. That means a lot,’ I tell her. Honestly, I was a bit afraid of what my wolf would think about me. I pushed myself harder and harder with each training session when I thought about her being disappointed in me. ‘Disappointed? No Angel, quite the opposite. I am so proud of you. You were always brave and strong even though you needed to leave your family behind when you were only twelve. I am sorry I couldn’t help you back then, but now I am here, and we will make everyone pay who messes with us.’ She says and I nod my head. ‘We will, Sky. We will,’ I told her with full determination. ‘It’s time, Angel. Do as I say, and the pain will go away soon.’ She says, and I stand up, I take my clothes off and put them in my backpack, then hide them. ‘Okay, I am ready.’ ‘Now go down on all fours, it will be easier that way,’ she says, and I did as she said. ‘Now close your eyes and imagine me, your wolf form. Imagine the fur on your body, your paws, your tail.’ She says, and suddenly I feel sharp pain in my whole body. I try to hold my screams back, but after a point the pain is unbearable, and I let out a scream when I feel my bones are breaking. ‘You are doing very well, just a little more.’ She says, and I try to concentrate on my wolf form, instead of the pain. After a minute, my screams turn into a howl and the pain subsides. ‘You did it girl, I can’t believe how fast you shifted.’ She says, and I open my eyes to see paws where my hands were before. I can hear every bird from miles away and smell the surrounding forest. ‘This feels… incredible.... I want to see you.’ I tell her. ‘There is a pond nearby, let’s go there.’ She says, and I sniff the air. I can smell the water to my left and I can even hear the water. I start walking clumsily, but I start running after a few seconds when I get used to my new body. This feeling is great. The wind blows my fur and I can feel the earth under my paws as I run at an inhuman speed. ‘We are very fast, Sky,’ I tell her happily. ‘Yes, we are special, so we are faster than an average wolf, Angel.’ She says. ‘Special? Why are we special?’ I ask her. My parents always told me I was special, but they didn’t tell me why or what was so special about me. ‘You have a half-moon mark on the back of your neck, right?’ She asks. ‘Yes, what about it?’ I ask her. ‘I have the same mark on my chest, you will see soon enough.’ She says just when we reach the pond. I walk to the water to see my reflection in it. I gasp when I see my wolf. She is beautiful. Our fur looks like it’s glowing in silver, which makes me confused. I can see the black half-moon mark on my chest too. ‘Sky? Are you a silver wolf by any chance?’ I ask her in awe. I heard about silver wolves and their power, but legend says they are very rare. You can see one every two hundred years. ‘Yes, angel. We are a silver wolf. We will do great deeds together, you will see,’ she says. I read a lot about silver wolves. They are immune to silver. That was the first thing that stuck in my mind and that wolfsbane doesn’t affect us as much as it affects an average werewolf. The legend says they have powers too, but I didn’t find any other information about them. ‘That’s so cool, I can’t believe this,’ I tell her, still not believing this whole situation. Me, a silver wolf? I hope the moon goddess won’t regret giving me a silver wolf for life. ‘Don’t be like that, you deserve to be one. Never doubt that. The Moon Goddess knows what she is doing, Angel, believe me.’ She says, and I nod my wolf head. ‘Alright, we need to head back. It’s almost one o’clock,’ I tell her, and I start running back to pick up my clothes. ‘Wait, how do I shift back?’ I ask her when I found the tree where I hid my backpack earlier. ‘The same way, just now imagine your human form.’ She says, and I do as she said. After a few moments and a painful scream, I am standing on my two legs, naked. ‘Cool.’ I tell her with a giggle. I would lie if I said that I was not tired after that, but I am too excited. ‘Just the first few times will hurt.’ She says. ‘I hope so, that pain… I wouldn’t want it even for my enemies.’ I tell her and I can’t wipe the smile off of my face. My wolf is beautiful and special. I took my phone out of my bag to check the time. ‘Holly sh*t… I have 5 minutes to be at home. I won’t make it, I hope he won’t ring the bell.’ I tell Sky in panic. ‘Don’t worry, just dress up quickly. Did you forget how fast we are?’ She asks teasingly. ‘You mean you are fast, I am not, not in human form.’ I tell her while I put my clothes on hurriedly. ‘And that’s where you are wrong darling.’ She says, and I just start running towards the cottage. To my surprise, I run almost as fast as my wolf, but, of course, I can’t run that fast only on two legs. ‘Wow, I didn’t know.’ I tell her in awe. ‘We are one Angel. I can give you my speed, just like my senses. You can do everything in human form that you can in wolf form, but of course, we are stronger and faster in wolf form,’ she says, and I can already see the cottage. Chris is not here yet, so I sit down on the porch to wait for him. I stop moving for a moment and just listen. I can hear a car a few miles away, and I can hear Nana’s soft snoring from the house. Incredible.
