❤Grecia
I pressed my back against the cold steel wall and watched as the two males circled each other. The two only other females joined me on either side, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away.
“He looks like he is going to shift,” the girl with the short pixie hairstyle pointed out and I nodded as one of the males got angrier and angrier.
“What is the fight about?” the other girl with the long ponytail questioned softly as she moved closer to my side. I was just as terrified as they were, and I glanced at the other males that had perched themselves on the top bunkers.
“Who said you are in charge?!” The angry one roared out. He was tall, strong, and very well built and he was definitely challenging the other male. Between the two, he looked a lot stronger but the sense of calm the other one held made me doubtful.
“Leave him be,” one of the other dragons called out and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Whoever he was, he thought that by saying that would make a difference. This dragon had shaggy long blonde hair that he kept trying to keep out of his blue eyes. It wasn’t working. The other two dragons didn’t comment as they too watched the situation. If that male decided to shift, then we would all die. The space wasn’t excessively big, and I could tell by the type of steel cell we were in that he wouldn’t be able to breakthrough. None of us could. I shivered as they continued to eye his opponent.
“You can’t win!” he yelled out and I took a shaky step forward. This wasn’t going to end well if no one did anything. I took a deep breath and another step forward.
“What are you doing?” long ponytail female called out softly as she grabbed onto my arm. I faced her and shook my head.
“If they fight, if he shifts, we are all dead,” I whispered. “Stop!” I yelled out as I turned around. “This cell isn’t big enough for anyone of us to shift and fighting won’t help any of us!” I argued my point. All eyes were on me and although I wanted to run and hide under the bed, I couldn’t. I had to take a stand. “None of us knows why we are here, or who took us, but it won’t help to fight each other,” I added. The calm one nodded but kept a close eye on the angry one. The large male had calmed down a bit, but he still looked as if his dragon was about to come out.
“I hate this!” he screamed out as he bent down and tugged on the heavy chain that was locked around his ankle. We all had one. The chains led to the center of the cell and into the ground. Whoever had captured us had done their research. If he had shifted into his dragon, he would surely have hurt his foot.
“We all do, so please, can we just continue getting to know each other and find out what the connection is between us,” I said calmly. He stood down and made his way to one of the bunk beds and sat down. The calm one came over to me and smiled.
“Well played, fledging,” he said, and I nodded. I wasn’t a fool, the angry one may look the part, but it was clear to me that the calm one was a leader. Probably a Lord and I wouldn’t challenge him. I went back over to the other females and they both embraced me before we sat down on the floor and leaned back against the wall.
“Any idea as to why we are here?” shaggy blonde one asked.
“No,” one of the other dragons said as he jumped down from his spot. “I’m Elzran from The Gentle Heart Faction,” I smiled as I recognized his faction. Those dragons truly were gentle and kind. Looking at Elzran with his dark brown hair and brown eyes, I knew that he was exactly that, gentle and kind.
“And I am Zylla, from The Mysterious Faction,” Zylla said proudly and I burst out laughing, along with everyone else. Suddenly we could all understand why Zylla had been so outspoken. The Mysterious Faction was known for being straight forward and not knowing when to shut their traps.
“Ai! And I am Cannyn from The Forest Faction,” Cannyn announced. “And I am eighteen,”
“Oh! Oh! I am seventeen!” Zylla called out excitedly and we all groaned.
“Well, I am Nyken, I’m twenty and I’m from The Fierce Faction,” the angry one proudly announced, and I glanced over at the calm one. Well then, now I could understand why he was so short-tempered. Long ponytail dragon stood up nervously as she pushed back her long reddish-brown hair off her shoulder. She was cute and she reminded me of a friend back home.
“My name is Ediroa, I am also seventeen and I am from The Braveheart Faction,” she said, and I nodded. Of course, Braveheart Faction. I stood up and looked around at my fellow dragons.
“Wait, we need to give out more information,” I said. “If we want to try and figure out the connection between us, then we need a bit more than a name, age, and faction,”
“So, you start,” Nyken spat out and I rolled my eyes.
“Sure, ok…I am Grecia, I’m eighteen and I’m from The Thunder Shadow Faction. I am an only child,”
“Hey! I am an only child too!” Zylla called out and I nodded.
“Ok, is anyone else an only child?” I asked looking around.
“No, but I am the eldest,” Nyken said.
“Yeah, so am I,” Elzran and Cannyn said. I turned to Ediroa and pixie.
“Yeah, I am also the eldest,” the pixie said as she stood up. She was strong, much stronger than me and Ediroa and I was curious as to which Faction she was from, The Warriors? “I’m Tagyn, I am sixteen and I am a warrior in training so…my Faction is The Warriors,” she informed us, and I smiled. Nailed it. Ediroa confirmed that she was also the eldest child. We all turned our attention to the calm one, who had been standing in the corner of the room listening. He sighed before he pushed himself away from the wall.
“I’m Jyrog, I’m twenty-one,” BINGO! He must be a Lord then. I glanced over at Nyken and he had visibly paled. He must’ve realized the same thing. Even though Jyrog wasn’t a Lord of any of our Factions, we still had to show him respect. “I am the Lord of The Slayer Faction and I am the eldest,” it was clear to all of us that we all shared one thing in common. We were all firstborn. Some of us were an only child but that didn’t matter. It was something and it brought us a sense of comfort. I stayed close to the two females, Ediroa and Tagyn. They where both different yet I enjoyed their company. When the door in the passage opened up I was hit with a strong smell. One that I recognized. A man dressed in a pair of green overalls came in and I wondered who he was.
“Dinner will be served soon,” he spat out. I took in his appearance and it was clear that the man was exhausted. “Clean up your mess,” he added as he opened a metal flap and threw in a garbage bag. Ediroa rushed over to collect it and immediately started throwing away out rubbish. The man nodded before leaving us alone once again. It had been such a short encounter, but I was certain about one thing.
“Are we at the beach?” Zylla asked loudly and I rolled my eyes. Well, at least I knew I wasn’t the only one that had noticed the salty air.
“I think so,” Cannyn agreed. We didn’t bother discussing it too much. We now knew that there was no way for us to escape but we did all agree that the next time that man comes in, he would have some explaining to do.
❤❤❤
It felt as if hours had passed since that man had last come in so when the door opened, I noticed that it was already dark outside. The man was pushing a trolly and hurried to close the door behind it. I hadn’t been able to see anything, but I had definitely smelt that salty breeze.
“My name is Keanu and I am your caretaker,” he said as he pushed the trolly over to the metal flap. “Dinner is served,” he announced. I glanced over at Jyrog. We had all agreed that since he is the Lord that he should be the one to ask the questions.
“Excuse me but would you care to tell us why we are here?” he asked. Keanu didn’t look surprised by the question as he handed over each large tray to Ediroa through the opening.
“I’d love too but I don’t give a s**t,” Keanu mumbled out.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Nyken roared out and I couldn’t help but just roll my eyes at the fierce dragon.
“It means, that I don’t care. I am just your caretaker,” he said as he handed the last tray to Ediroa. “Give me the rubbish,” he ordered, and she hurriedly did so. I was afraid that he would just leave but Jyrog was clearly not done.
“Wait, could you at least tell us where we are?” he asked, and I smiled. Good question.
“I could, but I won’t,” he said as he pushed the trolly back to the door. “Don’t make a mess, see you in the morning,” he pulled open the door and when he left, I felt my heart sink.
“Hey! What about a toilet?” Zylla yelled out after Keanu but the man was already gone.
“Are you blind?” Cannyn pointed over to the bathroom that was cleverly hidden around a corner. I hadn’t noticed it until I had needed to use the toilet. Tagyn had been kind enough to show it to me. It wasn’t very private, but it wasn’t as bad as I had originally thought it would be. Zylla rushed to use the bathroom while the rest of us dug into dinner. Mashed potatoes with gravy and sliced pork with sweet peas and corn. It was actually quite nice, and we sat around talking as we ate. It was quite entertaining to hear about other factions and I hated to admit that I was enjoying myself. However, later that night as I got into bed, I couldn’t help but feel that there was a lot more to this situation than we realized. Tomorrow morning, Keanu would answer some questions, even if I had to play it dirty. With that thought in mind, I closed my eyes and thought about my home. I wondered if my parents were out there looking for me and although the salty air indicated that we were close to the sea, it didn’t tell me just how close and which part of the sea. It made me homesick and turned onto my side. Who had taken us and why? Keanu had said that he was our caretaker, what exactly did that mean? Would he be the only person we saw? Or would our kidnapper reveal him or herself? I wasn’t sure what to think anymore. I yawned as I realized just how tired I was. I thought about the other dragons in the cell and smiled. I liked them all. Even Zylla and Nyken. I hated this but yet, I wasn’t too bothered by it. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better than today.
