"Please, I need to get on the next flight to Venice." I was pleading with the lady, but she wasn't budging. "Ma'am, the same rules apply to everyone. If you want to leave the country, you have to have a passport and a valid ID." She looked down and the ID that was now in my clenched fist. I had no idea why she was implying my ID was invalid.
