I had told my parents nothing bad was happening between me and Leo. In fact, I told them, Leo came immediately when I sent him a message about the anonymous call. However, I got an earful from Dad to make space for Leo and that my ‘best friend’ was only doing his job.
“As much as you wanted to protect him, you can’t, Alya. He doesn’t want it, either. He took an oath to protect the kingdom and the royal family, the same way I took the oath to protect the kingdom and its people when I ascended the throne. And may I remind you, you will also do the same in the future.”
I suddenly felt the burden of becoming a queen someday.
