Sophia’s pov My face went pale and my heart sank as the realization hit me with profuse impact, the whispers in the room grew louder causing me to be unable to think, guests exchanged shocked glances as their eyes shifted between me and the couple on the platform holding a beautiful smile. “What?” My mother muttered in absolute shock, her expression held a mix of anger and disbelief as she darted her gaze towards me. My body was frozen and I couldn’t utter a word or move an inch, my mind was racing. I couldn’t bear to see them together and for once I had the urge to cry but held it in, feeling the piercing gazed on me, desperate for answers that I didn’t have. Ben glanced at me and for a while, I could see the irritation he had and spotted something else…hatted with a mix of satisfaction. I could tell he had intentionally done it probably because Zara asked him, just to humiliate me. He turned to Zara and placed a gentle kiss on her lips making the guest clap at their display of affection. I hurriedly walked out of the hall ignoring the eyes and the murmurs that slowly died down as music tuned in and everyone began to engage in their side talks and I could I was one of the side talks. I walked to the balcony determined to leave the toxic air that surrounded the hall and to be met with a much fresher air to cool my nerves. “Damn it.” I cursed under my breath gazing at the night sky with my lips curved into a frown, I didn’t know whether I wanted to cry or laugh or just stand there in disbelief, I certainly couldn’t go back inside because I couldn’t handle that much stare of pity and despise. I leaned on the railing and the tears I had been holding back finally came spilling over, how could he do that in front of everyone? “Are you okay?” A deep voice interrupted my thoughts, I turned to look up at the man standing a few feet away from me, concern etched on his face. His dark hair to sister in the wind and his gaze was compassionate yet curious. “I’m fine,” I replied, wiping the tears away with the back of my palm, I wasn’t in the mood to talk because I still needed to process what had happened. But the man stepped closer, seeming even more interested. “Do you want to talk about it?” He questioned with a gentle tone that seemed inviting. “Not at all, I just need some air,” I replied. He nodded his head and took a sip of his wine, respecting my space. “You don’t look gone to me.” He commented and glanced at me before staring up at the sky. “Sometimes it’s good to let your thoughts be heard, it helps.” Although I appreciated his kindness I couldn’t bring myself to fall in the arms of a total stranger and cry my heart out while knowing everyone here knows what just happened, he probably came to listen to gossip, but he didn’t seem that way… I don’t care, there’s no way I can trust him. After a moment of silence, he spoke again. “Well, I caught a glimpse of what happened and I hope you will get through it.” “Thanks,” I mumbled, my voice barely above a whisper. “As much as I love a little drama to keep me going I hadn’t hadn’t expected it to turn out that way.” He said, trying to lighten the mood with his chuckle. “Of course, I happened to be in the front-row seat just to be humiliated.” I let out a light chuckle as well, making a homeput nod my situation was the last thing I would have done. “And you want it to end that way?” He asked, I turned to look at him with a puzzled expression, now that I looked at his features I could tell he was quite older with strange white hair mixed with the black curly hair on his head, boosting his aura and attraction, I could easily tell women would fall heads over heels for him. “What?” “You know how biased the world is against women, why would a pretty woman like you stoop so low and let him humiliate you?” He had a cold yet warm expression on his face, and I couldn’t determine if he was angry or chill, “What are you trying to say?” I asked curiously. “Revenge.” He said simply. “Put him in his place.” I was taken aback by this suggestion, never had that thought come to mind, maybe. Because I was softhearted, that’s why Ben had treated me in the most inhumane way and I did nothing about it. Revenge… hmmm, that didn’t seem too bad. “You’re serious?” I questioned him. “Of course, sometimes life throws you around but you have to take it by its horns and direct it in your course.” He shrugged smiling down at me, I could tell he rarely smiled by the way his lips curved as though they were forced yet it was genuine. “And how do I go about it?” I asked curiously. “Marry someone else as revenge? What will the public think?” I tried not to laugh at the thought of it. “That should be the least of your concerns? Did he think about that before he bagged that lady?” He asked seeming pissed already. “You think it’s okay for him to cheat?” “I don’t—-“ “Then why do you hesitate?” His brows arched, staring at me skeptical but not judging. “It’s not that simple.” I sighed, that’s right, I can’t just randomly make such a decision, I had been with Ben for the longest time, supporting his dreams like they were alone, putting myself second to him that it was embalmer in my heart that he was my world. “Don't be stupid woman,” the words came out sharp as a knife. “That man doesn’t give an ounce of respect to you and you aren’t going to sit back and watch him ruin you.” He’s right! I’ve come too far just to be treated this way, I can’t simply let it all end like this, all this while I barely had joyous moments so now I was going to leave carefree, ignoring the perception people viewed me. I’m going to make them pay, I’m going to humiliate them in the most brutal way that they will never show their face in public. The wedding is in two days and I’m not planning on canceling it just yet. My heart raced in excitement, my smile widened as I stared at the older yet agile man standing before me. “Very well then, I have a proposal to make.” My expression brightened even further, I could tell he was curious to know what I wanted. “What is it?” He raised his brows, his eyes focused on the line without getting distracted by the loud cheering in the hall. I felt a sense of hope stirring through me, my heart pounding with a mix of fear and excitement for what was about to come next and for the first time this night I had a glimmer of hope that I had a chance to rewrite the pain I felt. "You want revenge?" His deep voice wrapped around her like silk. "Marry me."
