Chapter 35For the next couple of days, we stayed close to
Edeltraud’s villa. We took a few short trips to the Kurfürstendam
but generally tried to remain as inconspicuous as possible. There
was no reason to believe that whatever secret project Eichel was
working on with the Geheimpolizei had anything to do with us.
Nevertheless, we decided we should leave
Berlin. We agreed we would take the train to Mainz and, from there,
board a Rheindampfer for a leisurely river cruise to Rotterdam. Our
ship, the SS Potsdam, wasn’t scheduled to depart for another
three weeks, and we planned to spend some time in the Netherlands
sightseeing.
Edeltraud was disappointed, but Katharina
