Chapter 34While Edeltraud was off having lunch with Franz,
Katharina and I decided to take a walk around the nineteen-acre
Hundekehlsee. The natural lake extended in a north-south direction
and was near several other small lakes in the
Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf area.
Even though it was early fall, the leaves
were already turning a panoply of orange, yellow, and red. A light
musty aroma filled the air as we tramped over the dank hiking
trail. We hadn’t spoken about Eichel since Edeltraud left for her
meeting with Franz. Neither of us wanted to think about him.
However, now I felt compelled to bring him up.
“Eichel. The son of a b***h is like a bad
penny,” I said.
Katharina looked at me. “We don’t know if
he’s even in Germany.”
