Chapter 33By 1902, the insurrection in the Philippines, as Washington called it, was finished. However, the detritus of the war remained in the consciences of many Americans for several years, thereafter. Of course, just twelve years later, another considerably larger struggle in Europe called the Great War pushed the fracas in the Philippines into the obscure fog of history where it remained ignored and eventually forgotten. For the first nine months of 1902, Katharina, Anna Marie, and I lived a relatively routine life.
