Prologue - The Light

1254 Words
Two pairs of eyes watched the holy fountain swirl and spin with sparks of rainbow light, it was mesmerizing. The great Goddess of the moon and stars has finally answered their plea. Other darkly clad figures lined the room silently surrounding the fountain gushing with light. The figures then began to chant. The chanting increased slowly from the quietness of the room, in the hall, numerous voices came together in harmony. The light from the fountain gave them hope. Three thousand years ago their entire galaxy was in torment, darkness began to spread and consume their worlds. People, men, women, and children died from the toxic spread. The last of their strongest warriors gathered together to fight the darkness while the holy amount prayed. They ceaselessly completed their duty not for themselves but for the good of the entire galaxy. In the end, the darkness was pushed back but at a heavy cost to them. Their entire warrior class was wiped out their people were dying, the very air they breathed was killing them. Again the holy people prayed, the great mother answered their prayers and opened the very fabric of space, and gave them to people from another galaxy. They came in big strange birds that blocked out the moons. Terrified, the ancient people hid in the shadows and watched as these new people settled on their worlds. Watched as their worlds changed these new inhabitants in unimaginable ways. Some could now shift into creatures, others could make floods from a wave of their hands. These other worlders were called humans, the natives observed, as these foreigners built their own civilization and governments. Changing their entire galaxy but with them, the worlds became stable once more. And with the prosperity of the humans, the ancient people thrived. But the darkness is back, growing stronger and stronger every day threatening the balance of their plants once more. The warriors that fought the darkness were long gone, their hopes now lay with the La-Te world, the mother world.  The enemy has destroyed the seat of natural energy that gives life to the other two planets in their galaxy. Now the clock is against them as the holy ones of this generation try to combat the darkness. They have prayed and chanted day and night without end, diligently for decades besieging the great mother for a solution and now finally, the great goddess has responded.  "It is time brother," One of the chanters said "Yes, it is, and just in time too! The synchronization of these worlds is beginning to deteriorate." "Indeed the darkness is spreading” These chanters were twin powerful oracles that led the chanting ceremony. One held the yin energy and the other held the yang energy. Yin brushed his sleeves in annoyance “our forefathers were very sloppy, how could they not have foreseen our enemy raising again” Yang chuckled at her brother’s scrunched up face “Brother do not frown you will get wrinkles” Yin brushed his sister’s hand away “Don’t joke at a time like this! Our enemy has been loose for decades who knows what sort of perils he has unleashed on these worlds.” Still, Yang smiled “I know brother” “And the great goddess has only now responded to our prayers after decades of waiting!” Yang patted his back while he ranted, she was very familiar with how her brother processed things and so she let him talk without interrupting him. Even though she had heard many of his complaints many times before. When he ran out of steam she said reasonably “We will never know what is the will of the great mother, we are but leaves in the sea, unable to control the tide. Only able to flow where it takes us.” Yin sigh “Sometimes I very much dislike your calm demeanor”  Yang laughed “You can punch me if you like” “Hm! don’t think I wouldn't” Although he still sounded upset there was a smile on his lips “Come brother let us join hands and recite the holy spell." Yang reached out her hands and Yin took it. Once activated the spell would bring together the three high royalty Empresses needed to stabilize La-Té and bring back balance to the Trigalaxa. Together they chanted: "Omniscient ones, hear our prayers. Receive our words and bring together those who are lost. Apart they are nothing together they are one. Bring them near, let passion flare. For in their union we are saved." The fountain filled with blinding rainbow light chasing away all the darkness from the room. A singing sound could be heard coming from it and then the light spread out in rings. It looked as if someone had dropped a rock in a pool of water. Waves and waves emitted from the fountain as the sound increased to almost defining highs. "Ahhhhhhhhh" "Ahhhhhhhhh" Finally, the light died and the room was once again in darkness and silence. The chanting and prayers had stopped and those in the room bowed their heads in thankfulness. "Summon the seers, brother, we must make preparations to protect the chosen ones," Yang instructed. ... Deep in the rot lands in a city made of bone a peal of sinister laughter could be heard. All within and without the city walls shivered in dread. He was in a good mood tonight which means someone would surely die. In a dark room, in the tallest building in rot city, evil eyes watched as the waves of rainbow light spread out into the night. As the light passed through the bone city many painful cries were heard. The light was filled with good holy energy, in this dead city, there was no good to be found. To be touched by the light meant death for many city dwellers. It was too strong for them to resist, the light was a purifier a censor of evil, if you were weak you would not survive its touch. The figure watched as the light rolled over his shield, grabbing a wave his hand burned from the impact. Even though the pain was excruciating he did not make a sound. These eyes saw the light as hope but not for the goodness of the world. He saw the light and thought about his victory to come, the light meant he could finally crush his enemies once and for all. He became excited and he practically vibrated with joy. The figure turned to the silent servant at his side. "Summon the counsel, the search has begun" The servant bowed low then hurried to carry out his master's given order. The man turned back to the window and watched as the waves of light faded; then disappeared completely. A sinister smile tilled the corner of the man's mouth. "Soon" he whispered, malevolence rolling off him like black storm clouds "This world will be mine" The laughter began again and the figure stayed on the balcony until the waves of light stopped. His coat rattled as he turned, returning to the inside of the room. His eyes shined with evil intent as he looked at the woman tied to his bed. “Now where were we my pretty” The woman’s eyes boggled in horror as the monster that had been tormenting her for days returned. She prayed for death but it would not come easy. Her screams were heard far outside the city walls.
