“Man, this is something I would want to throw away just like that, look at you, you are sleeping there like a queen you are and you look at you, already receiving VIP treatment, who would have known that the famous Victor Roberts had a soft spot, I somehow thought that he isn’t human, you can’t even know that you were involved in a car accident you look fine to me.” Tiffany blubbered as she hugged her tightly, and Jasmine winced back in pain.

“Ouch, you are hurting me, ‘it is not like you were involved in a car accident’, b***h I have three broken ribs, a limb and a concussion, I am only sleeping here today because I couldn’t call for a cab to take me home, I don’t feel okay in here, I mean I am not comfortable.”

“I know, this is not the kind of life you are used to but it doesn’t hurt to enjoy life once in a while when you get the chance and this is your chance, so don’t blow it up, tell me, what happened, I mean how did you end up being knocked down by a car and Victor’s to be precise?”

“I don’t know how to go about or tell you because I don’t know what happened, I went to the restaurant you know just to confirm if I still got my job and unfortunately, I met the worst news, I just got fired, so I am in the middle of the road walking aimlessly, my mind is full and my head is reeling, the next things I see is my myself down on the road and everything scattered, in fact, I felt fine the whole time, I only asked him for a bottle of water and I didn’t even get the chance to drink it because I passed out and the next time I woke up I was in a hospital bed with broken limbs and pain all over, I just want to get better so I can get back to work, I am feeling so much pain right now and I don’t feel like I belong here, everything sounds odd, you know what I mean?”

“No ma’am, I don’t think I am hungry, I just want to sleep and have a good rest because everything now seems like fading out, I hope I will be fine by Monday, I have to get back to my life, this, this is not my life.” She said as she pointed to everything in the room that sounded magnificent and too expensive for her.

“You are out getting back to work babe until the doctors say so, I will talk to Scarlett and she will understand, any person would by the way and before I forget your mom was calling me non-stop, you should call her back and tell her that everything is fine otherwise she will report a missing person.”

“Yeah I will call her, but not tonight. It is too late already.” She said while going through her phone caught Tiffany’s attention.

“Wait, you got a new phone, an iPhone 13 Pro, no you got to be kidding me, don’t tell me that he bought you the phone, you are lucky.” She said and snatched the phone away from her just to confirm for herself.

“Yes he got me the phone, and I will give him back once I get another phone, I am not taking the phone from him. You know I don’t like free things.”

“You will be a fool if you return the phone. He said he gave it to you, and you want to return it?”

“Yes, I will return it.”

“For once I will have to disagree with you on that, he offered you the phone because your phone broke, just take it out of a good will, it won’t hurt your ego, someone is just trying to be nice to you and you don’t get it to do you?”

“Okay ma’am I will not return it. Whoa are you trying to lecture me or what now?”

“Just instilling some sense in your head. Anyway, it is getting late, and I should be on my way right now, I will pick you up tomorrow.”

“Okay you better be here first thing early in the morning and you of all the people should know that I am not joking, so first thing when you wake up tomorrow, come and get me home please.”

“Okay I will come to get you, don’t worry about that, you take some rest, come on, I will help you and the first thing you will see tomorrow morning is my face.” She said with a smile and after making sure that she was comfortable, she switched off the lights and walked out of the room, said goodbye to Victor who was still watching TV in the living room before she got into her car and drove off.

The following morning, Jasmine woke up to her mother calling. It was about seven in the morning.

“Hey Mama, how are you doing? It is seven in the morning, Mom.”

“Yes, and that is because I was calling your phone and it has been off for God I don’t know how long and then I asked Tiffany to tell you that I wanted to talk to you, did she pass the information to you?”

“Yes but it was too late, and I said I would call you today. Is everything okay?”

“Yes everything is fine, I just wanted to tell you that your boyfriend was here the other day. He was asking about you.”

“Who, Leo?”

“Who else would it be, or do you have any other boyfriend that I don’t know about?”

“No Mom, it is just that you know Leo and I broke things off, he is not my boyfriend but my ex-boyfriend and what does he want, I know he tried to convince you into talking to me but I am not coming home despite I can’t home right now because something happened.” She said dismissively.

“Nothing to scare you, mom, I am good and I am not coming home because Leo just decided to finally show up after all the years he left, no I am not doing that, the next time he comes over to your house, throw him out mom and I am serious about that.”

“Okay I get it and I will not do that because you know I have always rooted for you and him to be together, you two are always perfect together and don’t say no because you know that is true.”

“We were perfect together until he decided to walk out on me and didn’t say a word, it has been three years Mom so no I am not taking him back and I am not talking about my love life with you mom, are we done?”

“Yes I get it now will you please come out and open the door for us, I am almost at your place and don’t ask me why I am showing up at your doorstep at this time of the morning, we need to talk.” She said, and Jasmine gasped.

“Mom, what are you doing at my place at this time of the morning? It is Sunday seven in the morning, and shouldn’t you be at church or preparing to go to church?”

“Yes and because you couldn’t answer your phone and you didn’t call me back either, I decided to check up on you.”

“I am not at home right now, I am at Tiffany’s”

“Okay I will be waiting here, so don’t worry, just hurry up and come here. There is something I need to talk to you about, and oh, come along with Tiffany.”

“Mom.”

“Of course not, I am on my way.” She said and hung up, she immediately texted Tiffany to go pick her up who called to say she was almost there, Jasmine struggle to get out of bed and went to the bathroom to freshen up, she didn’t even get time to shower, she took her backpack and when she was about to leave the room, she saw a note on the table.

“I figured out by the time you are awake, I will be long gone, I am doing something on own but I want you to feel at home and sorry about my sister’s outburst yesterday, I bought you some clothes to put on while you go home, take it as a present from me and don’t leave it behind and the money in the drawer is for your medication until you back on your feet please just take it because I know you will never say yes to me checking up on you from time to time until you get better, just go to the hospital of your choice and they will help you out otherwise it was nice meeting you again, Jasmine Howard.” It was a note from Victor, she looked in the drawer and there was a bunch of stacked notes, it was too much for her to take, she just counted 1000 dollars and left the rest but then thought about how much she was struggling, she walked back and picked the rest of the notes and the clothes and stuffed then into her bag, she then took out a pen and scribbled a thank you under the not before carefully walking out the room, she met Tiffany halfway through the living room.

“We don’t have much time. My mom is at my place, and you need to get me there as soon as now.”

“Wait, what is she doing at your place?”

“That is what I am going to find out. Now, will you just drive?”

“Yes, sure.” She said and then started the car.
