Alyssa sat in her daddy’s office pouting like the petulant child she was. Sighing annoyed since he knew his daughter wouldn’t go away until she got her way, Hank Terrance asked, “And what is it that you need now Alyssa? More money for shopping? I told you we can’t keep spending beyond-.” Rolling her eyes, Alyssa grumbled, “No. I’m upset dad because Tyrone isn’t returning my calls or texts. I think he’s blocked me or muted our conversations.”
Hank shrugged not seeing why that would bother her, “Did you two, not break up? Why are you trying to reach him?” Frowning, Alyssa tried it, “Because he’s the love of my life and I want to talk to him!”
Shooting his daughter a dry look over his glasses, Hank scoffed once before looking away. And somehow being called out by her own father, was somehow worse. Way worse than when Frankie and Rebecca had done it with their usual messy/pettiness.
“I’m serious!” She whined. But Hank sighed agitatedly with her before snapping, “Alyssa please spare me your dramatics and tell me why you’re in my office!?” Alyssa frowned at her father not showing her heartbreak any concern.
While faker than her acrylic nails, she still thought he warranted some response. Even a fake one.
“I need you to talk Elijah Royal into setting me up with Tyrone again.” Hank frowned severely going through documents, “No can-do kiddo.” Nose flaring, Alyssa hissed, “And why not?” Not even seeing the twitch in his daughter’s left eye, Hank explained dryly, “Well for one, I know he’s not one to meddle in his children’s love life. Just look at how he lets his daughter run around.”
Wincing at the slight homophobic jab, Alyssa watched her father shrug, “Besides, he’s your ex, and for a reason last I checked. Can’t you just cut your losses or leave the poor boy alone?” Alyssa whined and whined from that point until Hank halfheartedly said he’d see what he could do.
But Alyssa didn’t hold her breath. She sat in her room angry at herself thinking she’d let a good opportunity slip from her. Tyrone hadn’t needed much to make him happyish with her. But she should have given him more to make sure he STAYED happy.
And now he was gone, and she had lost him to some middle class slummer. Alyssa knew if she wanted him back, she was going to have to break out the weapons.
Make him SEE what he was missing.
But as she plotted on how to win him back, Hank charged into her room, “What the hell is wrong with you!” Alyssa jumped as she looked at him confused, “What!?” Hank scoffed in disgust as he told her harshly, “I just got off the phone with Elijah Royal.”
Shooting up from her bed, Alyssa eagerly asked, “And? What he say?” Hank almost wrung his daughter’s neck, “What did he say? How about how my daughter made a mockery of herself at his father’s party? Or how she was disgustingly rude to his son’s new girlfriend? OR how about how he might still ask her if she wants to press charges against you!”
Anger spread through Alyssa’s veins, a cold fury as she hissed disgusted, “What?”
Hank scoffed at the gumption of his daughter and admonished, “Of course you’re not seeing the bigger picture here! So let me spell it out for you! Elijah has made it perfectly clear on behalf of his son he is not interested. You have been uninvited to every party, get-together, or charity event thrown by them for the rest of your life.”
Alyssa knew that couldn’t happen because once that happened, she’d become another no-name. And with her status supposed to be rising, she couldn’t afford to let it fall now. Not with the rumors of their emerging poverty being spread.
“But Tyrone still wants me.” She lied. But the lie was futile as his father looked at her with a thunderous expression, “Are you sure about that? I heard rumors he met with his grandfather's jeweler to design a custom ring.” Alyssa's heart pounded uncomfortably.
Because while her mind immediately wanted to say it was for her, Alyssa knew the truth. It had been for HER.
Whatever her name was.
Angered at the audacity of it, him putting the thought into a ring for HER, was pathological. While Alyssa had all but dragged him into a store to just look at a ring for her. But all he did was stare blankly at them before walking out.
Feeling the rage eat away at her sanity, Alyssa jumped as her father boomed, “Damn it, you selfish child!” Hank hollered loud enough to scare the maids three halls down, “Can’t you see you’ve embarrassed me enough! Have some pride and save yourself from looking like a lunatic. He’s moved on, good for him, now you do the same.”
Alyssa’s eyes didn’t water until Hank’s final words had the desired bite to them, “Jesus Christ, you’re turning out just like your mother. Soon you’re going to need more pills than she did to stay sane.” Storming out slamming her door, Hank’s warning was clear to Alyssa.
Stay away from Tyrone Royal.
But Alyssa thought she could still win, so would keep trying too.
