"Are we there yet, Mama?" a little kid asked her mother. Her mother smiled and squatted, holding her shoulders.
"Not yet, Rose, but we are almost there," she replied. Rose sniffled and cried.
"I miss Papa," she whispered. Hearing her kid say this, Jennifer's heart ached. When the lurkers overran the apartment they stayed in for months, her husband died while saving them.
"I know, baby, because I miss him too," she whispered, sniffling a sob. Jennifer hugged her daughter and stood up, holding her hand.
"Where are we going, Mama?" Rose asked. She carried her little bear in her left hand.
"Frenling," Jennifer replied. "It's a place where the monster couldn't go," she added when she saw how confused her daughter was.
