Almeria - Andalusia SpainThe ancient port of Almeria lay shimmering in the early morning sun as a large station wagon drew up and four people climbed in. The town boasted one of the hottest climates in Spain, and a fabulous history. It was one of the last strongholds of the retreating Moors in the fifteenth century and had been a bustling centre of the Arabic trading world in the centuries before that. Overshadowed by the Costa's for years, it was only now enjoying a revival with a burgeoning tourist industry and renowned garden produce. In the station wagon, Matarife sat at the wheel, with Salboa next to him in the passenger seat. Behind the two men sat Kristina, Sabine, and a subdued Leila. Leaving the port, they made their way along the road E15 turning left towards Granada.
