The day wasn’t going in the direction I expected it to. First, I didn’t think that coming over at my grandmother’s would lead to a truth that never in my life had I imagined. Second, the love of my life could’ve probably killed me at some point in this relationship. Third, I didn’t think that I’d find myself driving to meet the man I thought was my uncle my entire life. But here I was. I was waiting for Curtis to arrive. In the back of my mind, I could picture out Evangeline waiting for me somewhere hidden. I’ve tried to talk her out of it, just as she had tried to talk me out of this but neither of us listened to the other.
