Chapter 10

1118 Words
It was hurtful for Liam to realise how Dion did not really care about his sickness. Dion was worried about how he would look keeping a ailing employee working. A tear fell from Liam’s eye. Dion did not care, “Go away, Liam.” Dion said, “Who knows? It could be contagious,” and he walked out of the room. Thandi joined Liam at the table. She received her make-up kit back from him, “I won’t be needing these anymore. He caught me.” “I am glad he did.” Thandi said, “I was getting worried, Liam. It’s not easy seeing my best friend play around with his life like that for some person who doesn’t deserve his sacrifice.” “Don’t hate him. He doesn’t know any better.” Liam had to promise Thandi that he would go home and focus on getting better. They hit fists and she ran out to get back to her work. She found the couple—Dion and Felicia—talking in the car. Felicia did not like seeing Thandi join them inside, “What’s she doing?” “She’s coming with us.” “For what? Dion, we don’t need her with her napkins. I’ll keep you clean, myself.” “Hey, shut the door already,” he told Thandi and she shut door with herself inside the car. Felicia hated that. She let them be for now. She knew then that she had to get rid of Thandi. And perhaps the rest of the guards around the home. It was the newest plan she would be focusing on. In the restaurant, Dion bought all the other dinners out. He demanded to be alone with Felicia and, of course, Thandi who had to wipe his chair and the desk for him. “Hey,” Felicia asked, “what about mine?” Thandi showed an attitude, as she felt not responsible for Felicia. This pissed off Felicia, she assured Thandi that she would get Dion involved in this. It all went with a conversation of the eyes. It was a conversation not meant for the man’s ears, hence, it was silent. Now, Thandi went down and wiped Felicia’s chair as well. ………………………………………………………………………….. Dion entirely refused to watch movies at the cinema. “I will not go and sit with a bunch of noisy, unsettled nobodies. If you wish to watch movies, buy DVD’s and we’ll play them in my house. Are we clear?” ………………………………………………………………………….. It only took a few weeks for Felicia to have Dion send Thandi away, “It’s about you and me. Not you, me and your worker. You can do it. I know you can.” “You know, you are really making my life tough,” in the end Dion did send the Thandi off. Thandi was headed back to Johannesburg. She was happy to leave. She was glad she would not have to go around carrying napkins anymore and standing all day long. In fact, Thandi had missed her ailing colleague so much. She went over to visit Liam as soon as she landed. “Liam,” Thandi found him in the garden. He was on a chair by a small a table. He was reading a book over a warm cup. He tried standing for her, but she quickly made it to him and sat him down. “Don’t torture yourself like that,” she said sitting on the other chair. It was in Liam’s house. He lived by himself, when the nurse was done for the day. “How’s he doing?” Liam asked, almost concerned over Dion. She laughed, “Oh, you won’t believe he asked me about you before I left. He asked me to give him a call as soon as I see you and tell him how you’re pulling through.” “He did that?” “Ow, yeah. I couldn’t believe my ears. So, what’s up?” “The doctor says I’m recovering a lot quicker than he anticipated. Tell me about Felicia. Is he giving her ‘attention’ now?” “Gosh! You should go over! She has him all figured out now. ‘Take me shopping’ and he draws every card in his wallet and off they go! ‘I want to eat out’, you should see him pay out the entire restaurant! And guess what? I heard his Accountant complain about how much money she keeps drawing from his cards. I heard the accountant say that there’s close to half a million spent.” Liam was shocked, he almost got off his seat. “This is bad! Has the accountant told Dion?” “I guess so, but we all know that Dion doesn’t care if money’s wasted. He says there’s more where that came from. And besides, who are we to concern ourselves with his money?” “I need to let Mr. Bowman Hill know about this.” “Ow. But, Liam, don’t you think he’s already been told? I mean, the accountant works under sir Bowman for Dion. Does that make sense?” “You’re right.” There came the nurse. She was grown. “Mr. Ginger, time to take your medicine.” Liam chuckled and only Thandi heard him say, “She makes me feel old!” The nurse was nearby now. She handed him a few capsules and a glass of water. Liam swallowed. Then, she gave him different tablets and he swallowed as well. …………………………………………………………………………. The Wednesday had come. Felicia would always reserve Wednesdays for her friend. She would go see her and spend hours with her. Her friend’s name was Natasha, but Felicia, affectionately, called her Tasha. They were chilling in Natasha’s apartment. They had themselves glasses full. “Oh, I’m so happy you enjoyed your trip with your boyfriend.” “Aw, thank you, Felicia. But seriously, I heard you have been making power moves. I hear you’re building a house, so your father told me. He is so proud of you.” “Yeah.” “So, what do you do?” “Hm?” “Your job, where do you get the money to build a house? Your job must pay good.” Felicia did not know what to say. “Felicia, you’re quiet, suddenly… Oh, no. What is it? Should I be worried?” “No, Natasha. No.” She took some while to talk. “It’s from my boyfriend… Dion Hill.” “Ow, that self-sufficient son of Bowman Hill?” “Yes, and don’t call him that.” “So, what now? Has he become that generous to even sponsor your house?” “He doesn’t know.”
