[Mason]
"Come down to the dungeon quickly and quietly." I pricked up my ears as I listened to the private message in my head.
I was already in bed and while Jade was already sound asleep, sleep was eluding me.
I was too worried to sleep, I had to understand the threat against my family and pack.
Any attempt on the Alpha was as good as an attack on the pack, I did not yet have an heir so if goddess forbid anything were to happen to me or my Luna, then the pack would have to suffer for years without a true leader until the goddess decided to have mercy and send a true Alpha their way.
My people had suffered too much and they still kept suffering, I wanted an end to that and I also didn't want a war to befall us, I had seen the calamities of war firsthand and it is not pretty.
I didn't want the news pups that had just been delivered following the last mating season to ever have to go through what I did.
I wanted them to have a home, not just any home, I wanted them to have a secure and safe home.
"I'll be right down," I replied Sirius' mind link and then I tried to get free from Jade's grasp.
I chuckled quietly and I removed her arms and legs from me so that I could climb down from the bed. I loved how she usually clung to me in her sleep.
I quietly made my way to one of the secret parts of the packhouse, not many people knew of its existence and I had just come to know of it when I became Alpha, Sirius said it was supposed to be used to hold top-secret prisoners but it had not been used since keeping top-secret prisoners was not really my kind of thing.
I walked down the secret path and into the dungeon, the smell of dust mixed with moisture filled the air and I had to hold my breath.
The dungeon was very dark, it was arguably the darkest part of the mansion but it didn't matter since I could see in the dark.
I passed the cell where Cyprus had spent the last hours of his life and I reminisced about his death, my claws came out as I remembered digging them into his neck and ripping his head from his body.
"There's something you have to see." Sirius' voice drew me out of my thoughts and he pointed to a body on the ground.
"Damien?" I was confused.
The cold body of my gamma lay on the floor, his eyes were open but they were white and had glazed over, the last of his blood had poured down his nose and mouth, his mouth hung open and his tongue was black.
Whatever death he had suffered was a strange one.
I stared at the lifeless body in shock.
"He was the mole," Sirius said and I looked away from the body and at him sharply.
"What?" I frowned deeply, I had had a feeling that something was selling us out but I could have never guessed that it was Damien.
"Yes, he messed up the ice cream parlor so I could not identify the arsonists, when I came out of the parlor I heard him arguing with someone, and then his eyes glazed over and he kept bleeding till he died."
"Do you think he killed himself when he saw that he'd been cornered?" I asked, trying to guess the cause of death.
Maybe he had swallowed a suicide pill when he saw that he'd been caught.
"I've only witnessed this kind of death once and it has nothing to do with suicide poisoning and everything to do with witches." He replied and my blood turned cold.
Witches, those creatures were very complicated and difficult to handle, I made sure to stay clear of them till they came into my life in the form of Jee, Jade, and Jay.
I had no problem with the three of them but the rest of the witches were a different issue, they were very complicated creatures and it was hard to see where their loyalty lied.
"Why are the witches after us though?" This was a waking nightmare.
"Not all witches." He corrected me. "These particular witches are still unidentified and I haven't figured out their motives yet."
"What witches do we have on our side?" I asked, it was time to gather all our allies to our side before they got converted.
"We have two witch covens, we have the circle; they love Jade and would do anything for her and we have the blackners; they will do anything for me."
"The circle and the blackners right? We have to schedule a meeting with them, we have to gather our allies and we need more information, we have to find out what exactly we're up against."
"Yes Alpha," He nodded his head, he must've been impressed by my answer because he almost never addressed me as Alpha, he gave me my respect as the Alpha but he never really used the term.
"We have to keep all of this quiet though, we don't know who to trust, they might have other moles in the pack and they may be able to enter our minds." He added seriously now.
"Jade can help with a spell to keep them out of our heads, first we need to find out the covens who hold the most grudge against us and would most likely do this to us.
"I'll handle that, just make sure to keep the whole spell thing quiet." He said and I nodded.
When he finished speaking, I turned to go back to my quarters.
I walked quietly not to make any sounds because I didn't want to wake anybody up and I didn't want Jade to get suspicious and start asking questions.
As I opened the door to our bedroom, I stood frozen at the door.
The bed was empty.
