IT was the chopper flying very low that caught Alpha Julian’s attention. He was unable to read the words on the logo from the underside of the aircraft. Yet, it was somewhat familiar.
He was wandering around the territory checking for the damage caused by the recent attack. Looking at the destruction, it was fortunate that they were able to hold their own. However, despite the win, a few lives were lost and many were injured.
Structures can be rebuilt, but lives can never be brought back.
As of yesterday, they have already buried the dead. The pack mourned for the loss. These people lay their lives to defend the pack. Moreover, almost half of the pack members needed medical attention. The infirmary was full. Many were forced to recuperate at home. The medical staff has been working non-stop.
The pack’s coffer may not be enough to pay for the rebuilding of the properties that have been destroyed. Even the medical needs may not be provided properly.
They may have won from this attack, but it has weakened the pack. Another ambush in the territory would assure the Lunar Pack's disappearance in history.
Ego aside, this was not how he wanted to mark his leadership. From the day that he assumed the responsibility as an alpha, he has had to prove that he was worthy since he was not the first choice. It was not his birthright. He was just an alpha’s son, but not the heir to the position.
On a daily basis, he has to make sure that he was worthy to sit on the alpha’s chair.
These matters were weighing on his shoulders for years.
His thoughts veered from his mind when the cellphone nestled in the back pocket of his pants vibrated. Even his eyes shifted from the chopper.
His hand went to his pocket to see who was calling.
It was not the call that he was waiting for.
Normally, he does not carry a mobile phone while in the territory. He has no use for it. As a wolf shifter, they can communicate through mind link.
A frown marred his face at the unregistered number.
His attention went back to the chopper over his head. It seemed to have been flying around where he was standing.
Julian pushed the green button.
“Hello, Alpha.” He heard from the other line despite the overwhelming sound of the rotor blade in the background. “This is Alpha Cane of the Metis Pack. Can we land on your territory?”
“What is this about?”
“We have medical supplies for your injured members.”
“You have permission to land.”
“Thank you, Alpha Julian.”
Even when the call had ended, he was still confused. The attack was not formally disclosed to the Werewolf Union. Aid from the High Alpha or allied packs was not expected.
His eyes followed the aircraft as it landed on the ground.
Before the rotor blade stopped, a familiar man got out of the chopper.
“Hello, Alpha. I’m Cane Petrov of Metis Pack.” The man said as he introduced himself. He extended his arm for a handshake.
His chocolate brown eyes met the other man’s prominent blue eyes.
Julian clasped his hand. “It’s a pleasure, Alpha.”
“Please call me Cane.”
“Julian then.”
“Julian, a friend of mine called me last night to say that your pack has been attacked and is in need of medical assistance.” The other alpha started.
“That’s correct. However, I have not reported this to the High Alpha. I’m still assessing the damage it did to the territory before I presented the report.”
“I understand. But if you let me, can we drop the supplies now? I assure you, my pack will not be asking for something in return.”
“Oh, thank you. I appreciate that.”
After a signal, a man came forward with three boxes in his arms. Indeed, they were the supplies that they needed.
He noticed the man with the supplies.
He was covered from head to toe. The only thing that was exposed was his eyes since he was also wearing a mask. Even his hands were covered with leather gloves.
The man neared, the resident alpha noticed that he was not a shifter. He was a vampire.
That was why he was fully clothed at this time of the day.
He would obliterate when the sun kissed his bare skin.
“I hope you understand.” Alpha Cane spoke when he noticed the other alpha viewed the fully covered man. “My pack was a mix of different species. It was started by my mother, Solana Petrov.”
“I am familiar with your mother. She made quite a few changes in our community. A very remarkable woman.”
“Thank you. I will let her know you said that.” Cane responded with a grin.
“Where can I put these, Alpha?” The vampire asked when he was standing before them.
Julian motioned to the ground beside them. “I will ask some of my people to get them. Thank you.”
The vampire did what he said. He returned a few times and no longer hid his ability to run faster than normal. Sooner than later, a pile of boxes was stacked beside them.
“We can send a few more if you need them,” Cane muttered after a while.
“I will be in touch. But thank you.”
In less than five minutes, the chopper was back in the air.
“Alpha, someone at the gate is asking for you.” A link was sent to him by a patrol on duty.
“Did you get the name?”
“Doctor Woods. She said she has the supplies that you needed. She was driving a truck, Alpha. We already checked the back. Those were medical supplies.” He paused a little. “Aside from the medical supplies, there were boxes of food supplies, too.”
“What did she look like?”
“She has violet eyes, Alpha.”
“Send her in. Tell her to wait for me in front of the pack house.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
A smile formed on his lips after their conversation.
“Doctor Woods, huh?” He voiced out. “That’s why we can’t find you all these years.”
The smile turned into a chuckle.
He sauntered in the direction of the pack house after he mind linked a few people to collect the supplies that had been donated by Alpha Cane.
