Chapter 5

1692 Words
Eric and I followed his grandparents into the Alpha’s office. The office was large with windows along the outside wall, and a porch running parallel to the windows. I didn’t like this as I felt it took away privacy for meetings. To me, this was a clear fault in the design of an office belonging to someone of such importance. At the end of the room directly opposite the doorway there was a large timber office desk and behind it sat a man who was gazing at us with the bluest eyes I had ever seen. He scrutinized Eric and I, then looked to Erics grandparents and asked, “Sally and Clyde, what is the meaning of this?” “Alpha Lake, this is Eric, our grandson. You remember our daughter Sarah? She went to the Blue Thunder pack. She is now the mate of their Beta. Well, Eric is her son,” Erics grandmother explained. “Okay, so who is the girl? And more importantly, why do they reek of rogues?” the Alpha demanded, gazing back at Eric and I. “Well, we don’t know who she is Alpha. We asked Eric if she was his mate, but he insists that she is just a friend,” Eric's grandmother responded. “Right. Who are you girl?” the Alpha demanded, his eyes staring directly into mine. Alpha’s have this cool thing they can do where if they can hold your gaze then their gaze alone can compel you to answer any questions they ask. Unfortunately for Alpha Lake, because I too had Alpha blood, that little trick wouldn’t work on me. However, because I didn’t want to announce to this room of people I had Alpha blood, I just dropped my gaze and broke the eye contact. “You need to answer him,” DJ said, gazing at me in a way that reminded me of the Beta and Gamma from the Blue Thunder pack. “Tell him who you are,” Eric’s grandfather added, from where he stood behind us. I reached out and grabbed Eric’s hand, squeezing onto his hand like it was my lifeline. Then looking back at the Alpha, I said, “Alpha Lake, might Eric and I please request an audience with you? Just you? There is much to discuss and much that we wish to keep private.” I looked towards the windows and back to the Alpha and added, “Though this room is clearly not designed for keeping classified information classified. Beggars can’t be too picky and therefore, given the circumstances, as unsuitable as this room is, it looks like it will have to do.” Around me, jaws looked like they were about to hit the floor. People were looking between me as though I had lost my mind, and Alpha Lake as though they were expecting him to rip me apart. Around me, I could hear the shocked murmurings of those who had born witness to my comment. “Such disrespect.” “Who does she think she is?” “Disgusting filthy rogue.” But when I looked back at Alpha Lake, he was simply looking at me in amusement. “Clear the room,” he said, glancing at everyone else in a dismissive way. I watched as Eric’s uncle and grandparents fled from the room, anticipating blood shed to take place. Once the door closed behind them, Alpha Lake gestured to the chairs in front of us and said, “Be seated.” Eric and I took our seats and Alpha Lake looked toward Eric and said, “I think it’s time you told me your story from the beginning now son. Wouldn’t you agree?” “Alpha Lake, I will happily tell you our story, however there is just one thing that I ask of you before I do,” Eric replied. “And what would that be?” Alpha Lake asked, looking at Eric with interest. “I would simply ask that you keep what I am about to tell you between us. Could you please do that? Once you have heard what I am about to tell you, you will understand why we do not wish to have it made common knowledge within the pack,” Eric explained. “Your grandparents and your uncle have served my family loyally for so long, I will happily honour your request. What we discuss here will remain between the three of us, I give you my word,” Alpha Lake replied. “Thank you, Alpha,” Eric replied. I listened as Eric began our story explaining everything to Alpha Lake about what had transpired within the Blue Thunder pack on that horrific night. As Eric spoke, I watched the emotions play out across Alpha Lake’s face. Shock, anger, rage. I could see that of all the things Alpha Lake had been expecting to hear from a couple of young rogues, what he was hearing was the last thing he had expected to hear. Once Eric had finished speaking, Alpha Lake looked at me and asked, “So… let me get this straight. You are the daughter of the Alpha of the Blue Thunder pack?” “Yes, Alpha,” I replied quietly. “And your own father was going to allow those… animals… to violate you?” he asked, looking at me with eyes filled with outrage. “Yes, sir. He was.He left me alone in the room with them,” I replied, looking towards Eric, silently pleading for him to say something to get the Alpha’s focus off of me. Unfortunately, the Alpha wasn’t ready to let up on his interrogation yet. He looked between Eric and I for a moment, his face showing he was clearly pondering something. Finally, he said, “You know, I am having a hard time believing what the two of you are saying. Alphas are very particular when it comes to their packs. They know that if they don’t toe the line, the Alpha council will come down on them hard and remove them from their position of Alpha. Also, they know that if anyone finds out about what they are doing, they run the risk of another Alpha stepping in and declaring war on their pack purely for the purpose of removing that one despicable Alpha.” “So… you don’t believe what I have just told you?” Eric asked, looking at Alpha Lake in disbelief. “Son, what kind of Alpha would do the horrific things you have just described? No wonder you wanted me to promise you to keep it between the three of us. If any member of my pack heard this story you have concocted, they would know immediately that you are full of crap,” he sneered, glaring between the two of us. “Eric, let’s go. Clearly, he is just an ego-tripping sack of crap like my father,” I stated, as I stood up. “If you walk out that door, you will be put straight into the cells,” Alpha Lake snarled, pointing his finger at me. “There! You, see? Power tripping Alpha,” I stated, pointing at him. “Cleo…” Eric said, standing up and placing his hand on my shoulder. I pulled away, not wanting to be touched. After what his father and the Gamma had done to me, the mere thought of someone touching me made me want to throw up. “I’m sorry. I know you hate people touching you now,” Eric said quietly. “Please, sit down before he throws you in their cells,” he added, taking his seat once more. “What proof do you have to back up your story?” Alpha Lake asked, drawing our attention back to him. “Well, to my knowledge the incident wasn’t recorded on video so… you’re out of luck there,” I replied sarcastically. “Young lady, you aren’t really helping yourself with that attitude,” Alpha Lake replied, turning his gaze towards Eric. Not wanting to be so casually dismissed I snapped and said, “Are you really so dense? Eric was supposed to be the next Beta. His entire future was mapped out. He was supposed to be the Beta to my brother, their next Alpha. Why would someone with such a promising future ahead of him just throw it all away and pull a disappearing act?” I demanded, wanting Alpha Lake to think. “You tell me?” he retorted, fixing his gaze on me. “Eric already did,” I snapped, shaking my head in annoyance before fixing my gaze on the carpeted floor of his office. Alpha Lake was quiet for a while, then he said, “I am going to need to the two of you to get a physical done. I need to know the two of you are one hundred per cent healthy. I cannot risk any diseases being brought into my pack.” “When would you like us to get those done?” Eric asked. “I will take you over to the medical building right now,” he replied. With that he stood up from his chair and walked towards the office door. “Come on, I don’t have all day,” he said as he opened the door. “What a pompous ass,” I hissed to Eric making him smile. Alpha Lake turned to me and said, “Be that as it may, you had best follow this pompous ass to the medical building young lady. After all, I get the final say on whether or not you get to stay here. Remember?” With that, we continued making our way towards the medical building in silence. In that moment, I knew I was not a fan of Alpha Lake. In that moment, I made up my mind. I really didn’t like Alpha Lake, he reminded me to much of my father. I determined that the first chance I got, I would talk to Eric about the possibility of me moving on to try my luck with another pack.
