The Alpha's Runaway Daughter

Chapter 6

We arrived at the medical centre and Eric and I were separated immediately.

I watched as the Alpha spoke with a small group of doctors and nurses. I couldn’t hear what he was saying to them, but I could see the sneers and snickers on the faces of those he was talking too. Clearly, he was telling them about our discussion in his office. Well, at least I now knew that Alpha Lake's word meant nothing. Eric had asked for the content of our meeting to be kept between the three of us. Clearly that wasn’t going to happen. From where I was standing, it seemed as though the Alpha of the Lightning Ridge pack had a big mouth and liked to flap his gums a little too much. As I watched, the group finished their little gossip session and parted ways. A few of the members of the group went in the direction Eric had been taken earlier, and two of the nurses made their way to where I was standing. As they approached me, Alpha Lake remained where he had been standing during their group discussion.

Standing there, I looked at the two nurses who were approaching me, and I said, “I want someone else to do the physical.”

The two nurses stopped, looking at me in surprise, then looking back towards Alpha Lake. “Alpha?” one of the nurses asked, a hint of uncertainty in her voice.

“What’s the problem?” Alpha Lake asked.

“I would like to undertake my physical with a doctor you haven’t gone and created bias with by running your big fat mouth,” I replied, making the two nurses standing between us gasp in shock.

“You think I have instructed these medical professionals to not do their jobs properly?” he asked in obvious surprise.

“I do,” I replied, nodding my head in affirmation.

“Why would I do that?” he asked, approaching me, a look of intrigue upon his face.

“Because you clearly seem to think that you know everything. You made it obvious that you think we are lying to you about what happened back in our old pack. Just because you are an Alpha, that doesn’t mean you know as much as you seem to think you do,” I retorted.

“Now you listen here girly girl. You are here in my pack seeking refuge, remember? Now, if you want my help and my protection, I suggest you start showing a little respect,” he stated, his eyes boring into mine.

I stared back into his eyes, holding his gaze. As the daughter of an Alpha, I could do this. Any other rank of wolf would have been forced to look away by the intensity of his gaze. After a moment of silence, he said, “You should go have your physical. The hospital staff don’t have all day to wait around until you decide you’re ready.”

I glared at him in response before turning away and walking towards a nurse who was watching us intently. When I reached her, she didn’t say anything, she simply turned and began walking down the corridor, leaving me no other option but to follow her. We walked into a small examination room, and once the nurse had closed the door, she began grabbing medical items and placing them onto a tray. The entire time she worked, I just stood there in the room feeling awkward. I don’t know how long I had been standing there for when the door to the examination room opened and a woman walked in holding a manilla folder. She looked at me and smiled, before looking towards the nurse who was standing near the tray of items she had just collected.

“Thank you May, you can leave us now,” the lady who had just entered the room said to the nurse.

“But Doctor, you might need my help,” the nurse said, as she looked between the two of us in clear surprise.

“Thank you, but I think the patient would feel more comfortable without your presence,” the doctor said, motioning towards the door for the nurse to leave the room.

“The Alpha will not be happy about this,” the nurse muttered as she made her way out of the door.

Once the door had been closed on the nurse, I let out a breath I hadn’t even realised I had been holding. Looking toward the doctor, I said, “Thank you for that.”

The doctor nodded and smiled before saying, “May can be a lot to deal with. She is hostile to anyone who is not from our pack, and as you probably picked up from her comment on her way out of the room, she is the perpetual brown noser of the pack. She will be running off to report to the Alpha that I dissmissed her from the examination room.”

I just nodded not really wanting to get into a gossip session on the various roles of individuals within this pack.

“My name is Doctor Anya Lake, I am also the Luna of this pack,” the doctor said, giving me a warm smile.

“You’re the Luna?” I asked her, shocked by that revelation. She smiled and nodded her head in response to my question.

“Wow!” I whispered, so quietly I barely heard my own words. “That’s… wow. I mean… you seem so nice, and he… well… he seems so… Well, Luna to be frank, he’s a real d**k,” I told her, matter of factly.

The Luna burst out laughing in response to my statement, and said, “He is, isn’t he.”

I looked at her in surprise and she just laughed and said, “Oh believe me, I know exactly what he is. I live with him.”

I couldn’t help but laugh as well. We stood there laughing together and, in that moment, I realised that Luna Anya was someone I could genuinely like. She was someone who was genuinely easy to be around. We stopped laughing, and caught our breath, then Luna Anya became business like once more.

“Okay, so the Alpha has requested a physical to be carried out. So, what I am going to need you to do, is strip down so we can begin,” she quietly explained. When I didn’t move, the Luna gestured towards my clothes and said, “You need to take your clothes off sweetie.”

I slowly began removing my clothing, feeling incredibly self-conscious. Looking at the door, I asked her quietly, “Could you please lock the door?”

The Luna nodded in understanding, before walking over to the door and locking it. I removed my clothes, and stood in there in that room as naked as the day I was born. I felt so exposed and vulnerable that it took everything I had within me not to wrap myself up in the sheet that was laying across the examination bed.

“I know it isn’t the most pleasant thing, being naked for the physical we do. Honestly, I know. In my opinion it is right up there with pap smears, prostate checks, and breast screenings. Not that you are old enough to have to worry about pap smears and breast screenings. And being a girl you will never have to worry about prostate checks, thatn the Goddess. Unfortunately, though, like those things I just mentioned to you, the physical is one of those things that has to be done. When new members join the pack, they have to undergo a physical, just so that we can ensure that no illnesses that could affect the pack are left untreated,” the doctor explained.

Not knowing what to say to that, I simply nodded. I understood it clearly enough though. An outbreak of illness or disease could have devastating consequences for a pack.

“Okay, so we are going to begin now. If there is anything that makes you uncomfortable, let me know, okay?” she asked, smiling at me.

I nodded once more, and Luna Anya began her physical assessment.
