Chapter 8

Luna Anya I watched my mate walk away with the young rogue woman. My heart went out to the young girl. She had been through such a horrific ordeal that my mind just couldn’t fully begin to comprehend it. How had she endured so much, yet still been able to hold herself together with such composure. She was clearly strong. Much stronger than I would have been given the circumstances. Cleo was someone that would be good for this pack. She was strong and she wasn't afraid to speak up when she saw something was wrong. Given the right training, she had the potential to be a good strong warrior. I just hoped my mate didn’t screw things up when he got back to his office. Xavier wasn’t the most tactful of men. Alpha Xavier We got back to my office and when I opened the door, I saw that Eric was already sitting inside with his Uncle Dan. When Eric saw Cleo, he looked relieved. Motioning to Cleo, I said, “Take a seat.” I watched as she moved past me to take the vacant seat beside Eric. I closed the door to my office and made my way around the table to take my own seat. “So, first things first. The two of you are welcome to stay here. As you would both know from having resided in a pack before, every pack member must contribute to the wellbeing of the pack. So, in saying that, the two of you will need to pull your weight,” I told them. I watched as the two seated before me exchanged glances before turning back to me and saying in unison, “We will train as pack warriors.” “Eric, son, you were destined to be a Beta,” Dan said in surprise, stepping forward towards the young man. “Yeah, I was. But that was a different pack. I could still fight for this one,” Eric told him, before looking back to me. I nodded at him in approval before looking to his friend seated beside him. “And what about you?” I asked. “Do you have any training in combat?” “No. Not yet. But I will. I can learn quickly,” she replied. “Why don’t you just work in the kitchen? Or, clean the pack house, or something like that. Something more suited to a girl,” I said, not wanting to waste my time. “Stop being a sexist d**k. I can do this. I know I can. I won’t allow you to delegate me to the role of an Omega when I am destined for so much more. I will be a pack warrior, you’ll see,” she retorted, holding my gaze unflinchingly. “Okay. If the both of you are sure that that is what you want to do. I will make the arrangements,” I told them. “We also need to arrange accommodation for the two of you,” I stated. “We can share a place,” the girl before me stated as she looked at Eric. “Yeah, we can share,” he agreed, nodding to her in agreement before looking at me. “Okay. Dan, can you please see what we have available?” I asked him. Dan looked at me for a moment, nodded and walked out of the room to do as I had asked. It didn’t take Dan long. He came back after only a few minutes holding a set of keys up to show me. As soon as I saw the keys, I knew which place he had in mind. It was a small two-bedroom log cabin. The place had been unoccupied for a while now. I held my hand out and Dan handed me the keys. Looking towards the two young people seated in front of me, I said, “This place will be perfect for the two of you.” I handed Eric the keys and I could see that the two of them were looking happy at the thought of having their own space. “Just remember that you need to earn this. You will train hard and prove your worth to the pack. The moment you slack off, you lose this privilege,” I reminded them. “Do we have an understanding?” I asked. “Yes,” they replied in unison. “Good,” I replied. Looking towards Dan I said, “How about you show them to their new home?” “Yes Alpha,” Dan replied. I watched as the two young people stood up and followed Dan out of my office. I was interested to see what the future would bring. I was keen to see what role the two young people I had just met with would play in the future of my pack.
