Maverick stared down at Carrie. She was sleeping peacefully now. Her face and body were clean of all the blood that had put so much fear in him. She looked like herself again. Maverick sighed, kissing her cheek for the hundredth time since they arrived at Dr Madison’s clinic. He couldn't help it. Even though he knew that she was alright now, he had this need to reassure himself that she was still there with him alive and warm. “You should give her a moment to rest. She’ll be fine now, there is no need to worry,” Dr Madison said as she smoothed the white sheet over her body. Maverick didn’t move. He sat beside the bed as if he didn’t hear her. The doctor stared at him with a smile pulling her lips wide. “She’s your mate?” she asked. Yes, that was the answer that popped into his mind.
