Chapter Fifty One

2582 Words
Magnus, can you come to my office please? I requested. Right away Prime. He answered, it was the next day and I had come to the office as early as possible to make sure I cleared my desk before I left. I had also not seen Liam since yesterday and he had not replied to my message. Before I could dwell on that thought, the door opened and Magnus walked in. “Good morning Alpha Prime.” “Good morning Magnus, please sit, we have much to do today. I’m going on a short trip back to England tonight and I want to clear my workload.” I explained, he nodded and sat on the chair opposite mine. “Is anything the matter? Do I need to arrange for your transport?” He inquired. “No, Jacob has already done that, which also includes a security detail.” I replied, picking up the first document, reading through it before minuting it to the department it was to go to. An hour later, we were done and my desk was clear. “You have two meetings to attend today, would you like to postpone them until you get back?” He asked. “No, I have time, let’s go.” I replied, getting to my feet, I glanced at my phone, still no message from Liam. Strange. ******* HOURS LATER I handed my bag to one of the men, about to get into the car when a car pulled up, its headlight shining. We all stopped, wondering who was in the car. The door opened and Liam stepped out, holding a duffel bag. “I’m here.” He said, grinning. I frowned, approaching him. “What are you doing here?” I asked. “You didn’t think I was going to let you go off to someplace without me.” He replied. Jacob walked up to him, last “She may be your mate but she’s also my cousin and the last time I checked, my mate.” He glanced over Kamilla who was standing with her men, before turning to Jacob “...is also going on the trip and you’re crazy if you think I’ll just sit here.” He stated, glaring at Jacob, Jacob glared back before nodding, a gleam of respect in his eyes. “Fine.” “What? No, Liam, you are not going with us.” I snapped. “As your Alpha Prime…” “Sorry Addie, I’m not listening.” he said, brushing past me. I scoffed, turning to Jacob who looked amused. I shook my head. “Impossible.” I muttered. Jacob chuckled before glancing at his watch. “Alright everyone” He called out. “Let’s head out.” I got into the blacked out bus with Jacob, Kamilla and Liam. I could feel Liam’s eyes on Kamilla who was busying herself with a file as she spoke with a man. You might as well tattoo your eyes on the side of your face. I muttered to Liam who scowled at me. Sod off, I haven’t gotten the opportunity to talk to her. He mumbled back. Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll make time. I assured him, he nodded, shooting me a grateful smile as the convoy sped through the night. ************* We arrived at a private strip where a large plane was situated. Jacob helped me out of the car and I watched as the men unloaded the bags and loaded it into the jet. We got onto the plane, it was very spacious. I settled onto a seat, Jacob sat close to me. “You okay?” He nudged me, I nodded. “Yeah, I’m just a bit nervous.” I whispered, he laced his fingers with mine, raising my knuckle to his lips and pressing a soft kiss. “Everything will be fine.” I smiled as the plane taxied down the runway and soon, we were up in the sky. ************** ************** ************* LIAM I glanced over at Kamilla, my eyes roaming over her face and locs. She was engrossed in whatever she was reading, and my wolf urged me to go talk to her. She stood and made her way towards the bathroom, I stood up, looking around, half of the plane was asleep, I moved towards the bathroom, leaning against the cabinet. I heard the toilet flush and the door opened. I took a step forward, her eyes widening as I crowded her back into the bathroom, kicking the door shut. She gasped, her back hitting the wall, my hands pressed on either side of her head. “Are you done running?” I asked. “I… I…” she stuttered, I tilted my head to the side, staring at her, her breath hitched, but she didn’t look away. “I-I don’t run,” she said, her voice low but steady, yet I could detect the slight waver in her tone and that was all I needed. “No?” I murmured, a smirk playing on my lips. “So what happened during Samara’s memorial, the pack house and the airport? Every time I try to get close, you retreat. You don’t just run, Kamilla—you bolt.” She scoffed, rolling her eyes before glaring at me. “You think you know me, wolf?” “I do know you,” I replied, my voice firm as I leaned in, close enough to feel the slight chill radiating off her. “I know you’re worried. You being a Vampyr and I being a werewolf, or is there something else?” My gaze locked on hers. Her jaw tightened, and she tried to push past me, but I blocked her escape, my hands still braced on either side of her. “Don’t,” I growled softly. “Don’t try to run again.” Her fangs flashed, her irritation slipping through. “What do you want from me, Liam?” I leaned closer, our noses almost brushing. “You. Just you. Stop fighting what’s right here between us. I’m not going anywhere, and you know it.” She shook her head, her voice sharp. “You don’t understand. This—us—it doesn’t make sense. You’ll age. I won’t. You’ll die, and I’ll still be here.” she snapped. Her words hit like a freight truck but I didn’t flinch. “You’re thinking too far ahead,” I whispered. “You’re so focused on what could go wrong, you’re ignoring what’s happening right now.” Her lips parted as if to argue, but I didn’t give her the chance. “You feel it, Kamilla.” Her eyes narrowed, but she kept quiet. “I’m not asking for forever,” I said, my tone softening. “I’m asking for now. Let yourself have this, have us. Just let me in.” Her breath shuddered, her hands pressing lightly against my chest, though she didn’t push me away. “I’ve lived too long to believe in things like this,” she whispered, her voice faltering. “Fairy tales don’t end well for creatures like us.” “Then we’ll write our own ending,” I murmured, leaning in closer. “One where you stop running, and I stop chasing. One where you’re mine, and I’m yours.” Her eyes glistened for a moment before she blinked it away. “You’re arrogant,” she muttered, scowling at me. “I’m persistent,” I corrected, a smirk tugging at my lips. “And you’ll see that soon enough.” I pulled back just enough to give her space, though my presence lingered like a shadow. “Think about it,” I said, my voice soft but firm. “But don’t take too long. I’m done letting you hide.” With that, I stepped out of the bathroom, the door clicking shut behind me. My wolf stirred, restless but satisfied. I walked back to my seat and settled, watching as she walked out, our eyes meeting, I held her gaze for a few seconds until she looked away, making her way back to her seat. One thing was sure, Kamilla was still fighting, but so was I—and I wasn’t about to let her win. ADELAIDE I watched as the plane landed in a private strip at Keflavik International Airport, it was odd how as Alpha Prime I knew everything about every country in Europe. We headed out of the plane and I glanced at Liam who had a smug smile. “Why do you look like the cat who got the cream?” I asked, eying him, he grinned, shoving his hands into his pockets. “Nothing dearest cousin, just the Icelandic air agreeing with me.” I rolled my eyes at him. “You’re insane.” He chuckled and slung his arm over my shoulder just as Jacob walked over to us, rubbing his hands together trying to stay warm. “Huh, would you look at that, the North American Alpha Prime can’t handle the cold.” Liam teased making me laugh, Jacob glared at him. “It’s not that bad, I mean there are places in North America that are colder than Iceland right?” I inquired, Jacob nodded. “I think Alaska should be colder.” “Jacob?” Kamilla said, approaching us. “The trucks are ready to take us to the caves.” “Good, let’s get going.” She led us to five massive trucks. Each painted a bright colour. “Woah, I would love to drive one of these.” Liam said, staring at the oversized, studded tires. Jacob climbed up, offering me his hand, I took it and he hauled me up. Liam leapt onto the truck and I glanced back just in time to see him offer Kamilla a hand, she hesitated before taking his hand, he helped her up, she stumbled slightly and he caught her, drawing her into him. Go Liam!!! Who knew my cousin had moves. I glanced at Jacob who looked slightly uncomfortable at the gesture, I nudged him slightly and raised a brow, he sighed and moved to sit. What was that about? I decided to let it be and found a seat, once everyone was settled, the trucks began to move and I looked out the window. The paved roads soon gave way to rough unpaved gravel roads that wound through volcanic ash fields. “Hey” Liam joined me, I glanced at him. “Hey.” “This place is pretty amazing isn’t it?” He asked, I nodded as the truck began to ascend onto a glacier, the tyres crushing the ice and snow. A few hours later, the trucks came to a stop and we disembarked. Jacob was still quiet, I walked over to him. “What’s wrong?” I inquired softly, he looked at me, brows furrowed. “And don’t tell me it’s nothing.” He sighed, glancing over at Kamilla. “I have her blood in me and that in a way makes her a mother to me and she’s mated to your cousin.” He stated, looking a bit green in the face. I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing. “Doesn’t it weird you out even a bit?” He asked, I shook my head. “It should but it doesn’t.” I replied, wrapping my arms around his neck, his hands immediately went to my waist. “I’m happy for my cousin, he has always wanted a mate and he got one, albeit it’s a bit strange but I’m happy.” He nodded. “I guess you’re right.” “I’m always right.” I quipped, he shook his head and we joined the rest for the walk up to the caves. The entrance to the Katla Ice Caves loomed ahead, a jagged maw in the glacier's icy expanse, beckoning like a doorway to another world. Jacob tightened his grip on my hand, our footsteps crunching against the frozen ground as we stepped inside along with the rest. The temperature dropped instantly, the chill biting through their layers of clothing. I inhaled sharply, the sound echoing in the cavern, the walls were alive, towering slabs of ice, light filtered through the glacier, bathing the cave in an ethereal glow. “It’s beautiful,” I murmured, Jacob stepped closer, his boots careful on the slick floor of ice and volcanic ash. “Beautiful, but dangerous,” he said, his tone teasing. “Kind of like someone I know.” I shot him a glance, rolling my eyes. “How long before we get to the portal?” Jacob asked Kamilla. “Not too long.” She replied, leading us deeper, the narrow passages opened into vast chambers that felt almost cathedral-like, with high, arched ceilings and walls that sparkled as if embedded with diamonds. “We’re here.” she said, stopping. Her men dropped the bags they were carrying, pulling out black coloured suits. “These suits will protect us as we travel through the portal.” She explained as the men handed them out to us. I took the suit, examining it as it shimmered, there seemed to be runes etched in the fabric. I pulled it on, watching as it shrunk until it became snug around me. I picked up the sleek helmet and put it on. “The suit is heat resistant and the helmet is fitted with a breathable mask with filters and energy reactive panels that manage temperature and radiation.” “Radiation?” I asked, she nodded. “Yes, the dimension we are about to cross into is heavily radiated.” she answered. “The suits also feature a control module on the forearm to monitor vital signs and suit integrity, durable boots for stability, and gloves with tactile sensors for dexterity.” She turned to her men. “Prepare the device.” They brought out a device, it was nothing like I had ever seen before. Its base was circular and was inscribed with glowing runes. It was supported by four spire-like arms tipped with crystalline nodes that hummed with energy. At its center hovered a rotating sphere, connected by vein-like wires, the machine felt alive, radiating power. They set it in the middle of the chamber, Kamilla stepped forward, now garbed in her own protective suit, she knelt, pressing several buttons before flipping a switch, the device erupted in light. Beams of energy shot from its core in every direction. The room filled with an unbearable heat, steam hissing as it met the icy walls. The ground beneath us trembled violently, and the ice floor cracked. I gasped as the beams of light converged into a single point, a vortex forming, its edges jagged before finally becoming stable. “The portal is ready.” Kamilla turned to us. “We’re ready, see you on the other side.” With that, she stepped in the portal, one by one, and her men followed her. Liam approached it, glancing back at me. “And you wanted me to miss this.” He walked in, leaving Jacob, his men and I. “Ready?” He asked, I stared at the portal, hesitantly, every instinct warring against it but I stamped it down. “Ready.” I replied, glancing up at him, a small smile on my lips. We walked closer to the portal, our fingers laced together, I braced myself and we fell in.
