I made my way downstairs the next morning when I bumped into Kamilla who was in the foyer, the usual happy gleam was absent from her eyes.
“Good morning Kamilla.” I said, staring at her now, it was strange knowing her connection to Jacob, she looked up at me, forcing a smile.
“Good morning Adelaide.”
I placed my bags on the table, turning to her.
“Can we talk?” I asked, she looked wary but nodded.
“Okay.”
“It’s about Liam.” I said, she swallowed, looking away.
“I don’t know how that is possible, I’m a Vampyr and h-he is a werewolf, besides I am… I… never mind.” she whispered.
“Well it’s clearly possible, Eda won’t make a mistake…”
She scoffed.
“Look, I won’t force you to be with my cousin but I just want you to know he is an amazing person and he has been waiting for his mate for ages, don’t deny him and yourself the chance of love.” I stated, picking up my bags once more.
“Please tell Jacob I’ll see him when I get back.”
With that, I headed out to the waiting car.
*************
I walked into the Consulate, handing my bags to one of the staff.
“Please take these to my office.” I instructed.
“Yes ma’am.” she answered. I headed up to Liam’s suite, knocking and walking in.
“Liam” I called out.
“Balcony.” He replied, I made my way over to see him leaning against the railing, sipping a cup of tea.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning, I got the things needed for the potion.” He said.
“Actually, you might want to sit down for this.” I replied, he frowned, tilting his head to the side.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, sitting on the balcony chair, I sat next to him, I tucked my hair behind my ear.
“Well, I went to Samara’s hut last night and I got attacked…”
“You did what?! goddess, Adelaide, do you have some kind of death wish?!” He snapped, cutting me off. I rolled my eyes, huffing.
“That’s beside the point Liam.”
“Besides the point my ass, what if the creature had hurt you or worse?!”
“Well it didn’t.” I retorted, there was no way I was going to tell him that the creature had bitten me and Jacob had to feed me his blood. “Anyway, Jacob came to my rescue and he was able to knock out the creature.”
Liam leaned forward.
“He knocked it out.”
I nodded
“Yes, the creature is one of Kamilla’s men.” I whispered, watching as the light in his eyes dimmed, he cleared his throat, looking away.
“I guess you and Jacob are going to take action against her.”
“Actually there’s more.” I said, he looked at me.
“She confessed, she’s a Vampyr.”
His eyes widened.
“H-how is that possible? Didn’t all Vampyrs die during the Persecution?” He asked.
“That’s what we thought, but apparently they stayed hidden in the shadows.”
He let out a humourless chuckle, staring at his cup.
“And she ends up being my mate… Eda must have some sick sense of humour. So what’s her connection with Jacob?”
“So, when Jacob’s mum, the former Luna Prime, was pregnant with Jacob, she was weak and there were talks that she and the foetus would not survive. Kamilla, hearing this decided to pose as a healer and healed Jacob’s mother using her blood, so her blood runs through Jacob even though she isn’t his mother.” I explained, Liam blinked, his lips parted in shock.
“W-what?”
“Same reaction I had.” I replied.
“D-does Jacob know this?”
I shook my head, “He found out last night, I felt so bad for him, having to find out something huge in such a way.” I whispered remembering all the time I had to find out about things that had been kept from me.
“This is some twilight zone shit.” He whispered, leaning back in his chair.
“Tell me about it.”
“So what’s going to happen now?” he asked.
“Well, we’re going to go get the Resurgem.”
He frowned.
“The Resurgem?”
“Yes, it’s an artefact that can bring back what was once lost, apparently Jacob and Kamilla have been looking for it. It makes so much sense now.” I mumbled.
“The rumours of Jacob looking for something, even encroaching onto other Alpha Prime’s territories?” He asked, I nodded.
“So where is this Resurgem?”
“In Iceland.” I answered, he nodded.
"Alright then, I guess I better go get rid of the ingredients." He said standing up, I nodded, holding his arm as he moved past me.
"Liam?"
He stared at me.
"Yeah?"
"Regarding Kamilla being a vampyr..." I began.
"It changes nothing Adelaide, she could be any creature, it wouldn't matter to me." He whispered, I smiled, nodding.
"I'm glad to hear that."
*******
The rest of the day went by uneventful with me attending several meetings and soon I was on my way back home.
******
I got out of the car, about to walk into the house.
“Luna Prime?”
I turned, my eyes widening at the man in front of me. It was one of Kamilla’s men, the one that had been staring at me oddly a few days back.
“O-Oh hello.”
He immediately bowed, his hands fisted at his sides, my brows furrowed at his actions.
“I would like to apologise for my brother’s actions, he has been through a lot and hasn’t been the same ever since.” He explained.
“It’s fine.” I whispered, he rose, staring at me with his piercing gaze, there was some kind of emotion flickering in his eyes that frightened me, the depth of the emotions swirling in them. Clearing my throat, I looked away.
“I hope your brother gets better.”
He didn’t say anything, instead he kept staring at me.
“Is there anything else?”
He seemed to finally snap out of whatever trance he was in because he shook his head.
“No, Luna Prime.”
“Well then, goodbye.” I turned and headed into the house, I turned to close the door when I noticed he was still standing there, staring at me.
Weird…
I closed the door, shaking my head before spying a maid.
“Good evening Luna Prime.” she greeted, curtseying.
“Good evening.” I replied, handing my bags to one of the maids.
“Please take this up to my room.” I instructed.
“Yes Luna Prime.”
“What about the Alpha Prime?” I inquired.
“He is in his office.” she replied, I nodded and headed in the direction of his office. I opened the door, he was standing in the conference room, Kamilla, Tony and another man were there. Jacob looked up, his eyes landing on me.
“Welcome back.” He said.
“Thank you.” I replied, walking in, he pulled a seat close to his.
“Luna” Tony greeted.
“Hello Tony.” I replied, smiling softly. I nodded at Kamilla and the man before turning my attention to the table where a large map had been placed. I tilted my head, examining it.
“This is the Katla Caves.” I said, glancing at Jacob.
“Yes, we are bumping up the trip.” He explained.
“Any reason why?” I inquired, he kept silent and I glanced at Kamilla who avoided my eyes. I could feel the tension between them.
“Is anyone going to answer me?” I said out loud.
“The glaciers are melting at an alarming rate, it’s best we retrieve the Resurgem before it becomes impossible to do so.” Kamilla’s man explained.
“Well that makes sense, when do we leave?”
“Tomorrow night.”
I raised a brow.
That soon huh.
“Alright then.”
Kamilla cleared her throat.
“As I was saying, we have specialised suits that will protect us from the arid atmosphere of Chronaris. We have also estimated that it will take us a day and a half to get to the exact location of the Resurgem.” She explained, I listened as she carried on.
“I have a question.” I said, interrupting her. “Won’t the Iceland Alpha be alerted of this?”
“As far as he is concerned, we are a company doing some …” Kamilla explained, I nodded and she continued.
***********
I watched as they all filed out, Kamilla glancing at Jacob, her eyes dim before she walked out, closing the door, leaving Jacob and I alone.
“I’ll have to go into work tomorrow and get some things done.” I uttered.
“Okay and Adelaide?”
“Yes?” I answered, turning to him.
“This trip, it’s sensitive…” he began.
“I know, however, I don’t hide things from my cousin and I am not about to start.” I replied, he nodded.
“I figured, you two are thick as thieves.”
I smiled at him. Remembering all the exploits Liam and I had done, even before the m******e.
“You have no idea.”
A ghost of a smile appeared on his lips.
“I’ll let you go rest.”
“You know you can’t stay mad at Kamilla right?” I uttered, he stiffened.
“Adelaide, please…”
I approached him.
“I know you’re hurt and she was wrong to keep something as vital as that from you but being angry at her isn’t going to help anyone.”
He turned to me, his eyes still filled with hurt.
“She knew… she witnessed my struggle with this part of me and though she helped, she didn’t think it was important to tell me the truth.” He whispered.
“Like I said, she was wrong for that but Kamilla cares so much for you, anyone can see that.” I said, placing my hands on his chest, he reached up, covering my hand with his. I smiled at him.
“I don’t know if I like this part of you.” he mumbled. I frowned, tilting my head.
“What part of me?”
He stepped closer, moving my hair away from my face.
“The wise, insightful and reasonable Adelaide Silverstone.” he whispered, I rolled my eyes at him.
“I’ve always been wise, insightful and reasonable, you were just too stuck in your head to realise that.”
He chuckled before his expression grew serious.
“Our relationship for the most part has been a complete trainwreck which is completely my fault and with your permission, I want to start over.”
I swallowed hard and nodded.
“I want that too.”
He smiled and took a step back, offering me his hand.
“I’m Jacob Mont Blanc, the North American Alpha Prime and most importantly, your mate.”
I laughed, my shoulders shaking before I reached out my hand and shook his outstretched hand.
“I’m Adelaide Silverstone, the European Alpha Prime and most importantly, your mate.”
He pulled me into his chest, his hands moving to my waist.
“It’s an honour to finally meet you.” He whispered, his eyes moving down to my lips.
“The honour is all mine.” I whispered back, my eyes on his lips, I don’t know who made the first move but my eyes fluttered close as our lips met
