“Ms Adelaide? Ms Adelaide?”
A faint voice pierced through my unconsciousness and a groan escaped my lips. I rolled over, pulling the blanket over my head.
“Ms Adelaide, you need to get up. It's 2 in the afternoon.”
Wait…
What?!
My eyes flew open and I immediately sat up, staring at Delilah.
“What did you say?!” I asked, eyes wide.
“Uh… it’s 2pm, I wanted to wake you up earlier but Prime instructed me to let you sleep in.” she explained, my mind was a bit fuzzy as I tried to remember what happened when everything came back to me at the speed on light.
THAT BASTARD!!!
I flew off the bed in a fit of rage, Delilah scrambling out of my way as I stormed out of my suite. I was going to kill him, I would end his miserable existence as slowly as I could, draw it his pain for my own satisfaction. The asshole had the audacity to drug me!!! Oh I was going to kill him.
I marched down the stairs towards his office, the guards stationed at the door jumped at the sight of me. One of them stepped forward, lips parted.
“I’m sorry Luna Prime but you c…” I grabbed a fistful of his clothes and flung him over my shoulder, not bothering to look back and see if he was alright. The other guard swallowed hard, eyes drifting to the man behind me before stepping aside and averting his gaze.
I pushed the doors open, the force making them slam against the wall, storming in, my eyes landed on the bane of my existence, seated at the head of the table, a pen in his hand.
“HOW f*****g DARE YOU?!”
JACOB
“HOW f*****g DARE YOU?!”
My eyes raked over her, hair tousled, eyes wild with anger. She looked incredibly glorious even if I was the target of her anger. My eyes moved lower to her nightwear which was currently on display for my entire cabinet to see thanks to the robe that had come loose. My eyes darkened and the pen in my fingers snapped under the pressure.
“Gentlemen, excuse us, I would like to have a word with Luna alone.” I ordered, my eyes not leaving hers, she folded her arms, her cleavage on full display.
“NOW” I snapped making the advisors jump as they hurriedly gathered their belongings and scurried out. With a flick of my fingers, the doors swung shut with a slam that had her glancing at the door. Taking advantage of the distraction, I appeared in front of her, smirking when she gasped at the sight of me so close to her. Her shock gave way to anger and she narrowed her eyes at me.
“You drugged me!” she spat.
“But you slept soundly didn’t you?” I asked, slipping my hands into my pockets. The look she gave me was enough to scare a normal werewolf shitless.
“What if I had a reaction to the drug? Or if I had died huh?”
I raised a brow at her words, taking a step closer so that she was pressed up against the door.
“Uh, w-what do you think you’re doing?” she stuttered making me smirk at how flustered she got whenever I cornered her, it was… cute, like a pup.
“It’s funny don’t you think, you tried to poison me yet a little sedative in your drink has you all riled up, almost as if you can’t take what you usually dish.” I whispered, slipping my hands into her robe, carressing her silk clad waist before pulling her flush against me relishing the moan that escaped her lips. I could feel her fighting the palpable attraction she had for me.
“Let me go” She snapped, glaring up at me.
“I don’t think I will, besides we have much to discuss.” I replied, moving us so she was now seated on the conference table and I was between her legs.
“W…what, h…how did you do that?” she asked bewildered. I ignored her question, placing my hands on either side of her, caging her in.
“Tell me Adelaide, is this your new plan?” I inquired, lifting a hand to tuck her hair behind her ear.
“What are you talking about?” She snapped.
“How many of my men saw you like this?” I asked, toying with the belt of her robe.
“What the hell does that have to do with you drugging me?”
“Well, that’ll let me know how many funerals I’d have to hold today.” I replied, looking her straight in the eyes. I could see my red eyes reflecting in her blue ones. She tilted her head to the side, a sinful smirk creeping onto her lips.
“Hmm.... maybe I should prance around naked... see how many of your pack members I can get you to kill? She mused.
Oh you tease
My grip tightened on her thigh, using my other hand to pull her flush against me making her gasp slightly. The beast in me not appreciating her words and wanting nothing more than to dig our fangs into her shoulder and mark her as ours.
"I'm a possessive mate, pet, I would advise you to tread lightly. I will not stand for unworthy eyes looking at what is mine.” I cautioned.
“You still don't get it Jacob. I. Am. Not. Yours.” She said slowly almost as if she was talking to a child.
“Yet you wear my ring.” I replied, trailing down her arm, observing how she tried to unsuccessfully stifle the shivers I was eliciting from her. I lifted her hand, admiring the Luna ring before pressing a kiss to it, maintaining eye contact with her.
I smirked as she glared at me, ripping her hand away from my hold.
“And soon my mark will be at its rightful place, between your neck and shoulder.” I continued, moving away from her. As much as I enjoyed riling her up, I still had a meeting to attend and Delilah was behind the door, frantic, wondering if Adelaide had finally pushed me too far.
I watched as she got off the table, shoving past me before turning around, her upper lips curled up.
“It would be a cold day in hell before I let you mark me.”
I took a step closer to her.
“Good thing winter is upon us.” I replied, enjoying the fire in her eyes. “Delilah's out there, she's working herself into a frenzy, put the poor girl out of her misery.”
She glared at me once more before storming out.
Tony?
Yes Prime?
Tell my cabinet to come back in for the meeting. I instructed, taking a seat, my mind still on the spitfire I called a mate.
ADELAIDE
Delilah was pacing outside his office, wringing her hands. She jumped at the sight of me walking out of the office. I brushed past her and the guards, she followed me back.
“Ms Adelaide you really have to stop riling up the Prime!!” She cried out as soon as we got into my room.
“Maybe he should stop doing shitty things that piss me off.” I snapped, shrugging off the robe.
“You literally interrupted his meeting with his cabinet, not even the Beta does that. What if you push him to the wall and he snaps?”
I looked her straight in the eyes.
“Then I'll put him down like a rabid animal.”
“Luna!!!” She cried out, horrified.
I rolled my eyes at her before stepping into the bathroom. I pulled my nightwear off and got into the shower.
After my shower, I walked into the room, and my lunch had already been served. I got dressed and settled down to eat while I powered on my laptop. The European Wolf Registry had sent me an email and I was yet to go through it. I took a bite of my chicken as I tapped on the email.
Greetings Prime,
We hope this message meets you well. Regarding your previous email…
I frowned, realising my earlier hunch had been true. Someone out there was targeting selective wolf lineage. It made no sense why such a thing was happening or what could be their motive. I continued reading.
We were unable to make any connection between the targeted families.
Yours faithfully
Juniper Thompson
Director,
European Wolf Registry.
I chewed on my lips, this couldn't be a dead end, I would have to continue investigating. There had to be a connection. I sent a quick reply, thanking them just as my phone rang.
It was Liam.
“Hey”
“Are you busy?” He inquired.
“Not really, I got a reply from the Registry but it's a dead end.” I answered. “What about you? Were you able to get anything on the you know what?”
Walls had ears and I wasn't about to jeopardise my entire mission.
“People over here are pretty tight lips, almost as if they think he'll appear in front of them if they so much as mention his name.” He muttered. “But there is something that needs your attention. Amelia Dubois’ parents are here.”
I sat up.
“I'll be right there.”
I hung up, closing my laptop and stuffing it into one of the bags. I changed into an outfit that was more suitable for the office before heading out. I spied Delilah by the front door.
“Delilah, can you have a car brought to the front? I have to be at the Consulate.” I instructed, fixing the strap of my watch.
“No need for that.”
My head snapped towards Jacob and I narrowed my eyes at him. He was walking towards us, Tony behind him.
“We're heading in that direction. I'm sure the Luna wouldn't mind tagging along with us.”
Like hell I don't
I glared at him as he came to a stop in front of me, his eyes raking over my outfit.
“You look absolutely stunning, Adelaide.”
I ignored the way my heart fluttered at his words, focusing instead on securing my watch.
“If you have nothing better to do, I'll be in the car.”
I brushed past Delilah to the car that was parked outside. One of the guards opened the door and I got in. Jacob joined me, while Tony sat in front with the driver.
“So what has you going to the Consulate this fine afternoon?” He asked. I looked over at him, giving him a fake smile.
“European Prime business, I don't see how that's any of your business.”
He chuckled, shaking his head, turning his attention to the window. I took the opportunity to give him a one over. He was wearing brown suit trousers and a dark brown cotton shirt with the top buttons undone.
My eyes moved to his face before realising he could see my reflection on the mirror and the bastard was smirking. I glared at him, looking away, concentrating on the passing buildings.
The car slowed down in front of the Consulate. I picked up my bags about to open the door.
“I got us a dinner reservation at one of the restaurants in town, be ready by 7pm.” Jacob informed me. “It's time our people start seeing us together.”
I curled my upper lip at him.
“Unfortunately I have much more important things to do, so how about a raincheck.”
Without waiting for a reply, I got out and headed up the steps into the Consulate. A woman stepped forward, bowing before taking my coat and bags from me.
“Welcome Prime.”
“Thank you, please inform Magnus and Liam of my arrival.” I replied, making my way up to my office.
I walked into my office, settling down and checking the files and documents that I had to go through. I knew I still had a lot to learn as Prime, especially when it came to the business side of the European Continent. I scanned through the records of the exports of Iron Ore before sighing and placing it aside. I would have to get Magnus to explain all of it.
“Prime?”
I looked up to see him standing by the door.
“Oh Magnus, Good morning. Liam told me about the Dubois being here.”
“Yes, they are waiting, they would like an audience with you.” He replied.
“Send them in, have someone bring in refreshments.”
He nodded before walking off. I straightened the wrinkles on my clothes, standing and moving to the sitting area of my office. I swallowed hard, waiting for them.
Magnus came back with a middle aged couple. I stepped forward, a small smile on my lips. They immediately took a deep bow.
“Oh please, rise.” I said, feeling a bit embarrassed at their acts of servitude.
“We are extremely grateful to be here, Prime. When we heard you were alive and well, it brought joy to our hearts.” The man said.
“Do sit.” I gestured to the sofa. I waited until they were seated before taking my seat, Magnus sitting on a chair next to me. “Can I offer you anything? Water, tea, coffee?”
The woman let out a sob, covering her mouth with her hand.
“I'm sorry Prime.”
“You have nothing to be sorry for.” I replied, offering her the tissue box. She took a tissue and dabbed her eyes.
“It's just… A-Amelia… she's all we have and now she's g-gone.”
I watched as her mate comforted her, giving them some time to gather themselves.
“Do you mind me asking questions?”
He shook his head.
“Did she have anybody who would want her gone? Any enemies? Someone she wasn't on good terms with?”
“No, she's an angel, everyone loved her. It's just odd how she disappeared on the third anniversary of my mother's disappearance.” He answered, I perked up at that.
“So she's not the first person in your family to disappear?”
“No, my mother disappeared three years ago.” He replied. I frowned, my brows knitted.
“Were they close?”
“Yes, very close, our baby grew up with my mother due to our work taking us out of the country most of the time.” He explained.
“When your mother disappeared, how did Amelia react?”
“She was distraught, her grandmother meant everything to her.” The mother replied, having calmed down. “And towards the end, before she went missing, she kept saying that she was being followed and she knew it was only a matter of time before they got her.”
My eyebrows knitted together and I glanced at Magnus before moving to the edge of my seat.
“They?”
“Yes, I once asked her who they were, she said she didn't know but they were the same people that took grandma and that they were trying to silence them.” She continued, wiping the tears away.
“I begged her to tell me what it was that she knew but she was adamant on staying silent, she said that was the only way to keep the rest of us safe.”
I racked my brain trying to make sense of what she was saying but unable to.
“Could she have possibly said or mentioned anything else to you?” Magnus asked.
Mrs Dubois Shook her head.
“Wait…” she whispered, eyes wide.
“She kept on talking about how a great injustice had occurred and it needed to be fixed.”
I glanced at Magnus.
Do you have any idea what that could mean?
I have no idea My Prime.
“Please Prime, We just want our baby back.” She begged. I got to my feet and walked over to them, I sat and held her hand.
“I will do everything within my power to bring your daughter back home.”
They gave me grateful smiles.
“Thank you Prime, We are forever in your debt.” He said, standing and helping his wife to her feet.
“It's my honour.”
I watched Magnus lead them out and I walked back to my seat, fiddling with my pen thinking of the new information I had just learnt.
A great injustice had occurred and it needed to be fixed.
“Adelaide?”
I looked up to see Liam standing by the door.
“Hey”
“How did the meeting go?” He asked, walking in and closing the door behind him.
“Things keep getting strange, I think I'll have to interview the family of every missing person at this point. Mr Dubois said his daughter kept talking about people who were following her and something about a great injustice had occurred and it needed to be fixed.” I explained. He sat, brows furrowed.
“So the people definitely took her.”
“Yeah, and she didn't give her parents any information about the people that were after her. Ugh… this is frustrating.” I mumbled, running my fingers through my hair.
“Well, if it makes you feel any better, I was able to get some information on Jacob.”
I perked up at that.
“I'm listening.”
“So the chief editor of The Daily Howl was found in the middle of his newspaper house with the place burned to the ground.” He began.
I frowned, remembering my conversation with Adlartok.
“You think he did that?”
“Yeah but that's not all.” He continued, leaning forward in his seat.
“Well spit it out.”
He grinned, making me scowl at him.
“The man is currently being kept in a psychiatric hospital after he tried to off himself a couple of times.”
I folded my arms, I didn't feel pity towards the man and didn't even bother hiding the satisfaction Liam's news brought me.
“So Jacob f****d him up so bad and he ended up in a psychiatric hospital… I don't see how that relates to us bringing him down.”
“Patience grasshopper.” Liam chided, placing his phone in front of me. I huffed and looked at the phone.
Wait a minute
I glanced at Liam.
“This is a medical report on the editor?”
“Yup, I was able to get my hands on it.” He replied, smirking. I nodded and went through it.
Patient was brought in by family after showcasing several manic episodes of intense fear, cause of which is unknown, scans and MRI all show no sign of any abnormalities in the brain.
“There's nothing here…” I said.
“Exactly, which led me down a rabbit hole. Apparently, there are about 10 people who have displayed the same symptoms and the one thing they have in common is…”
“Jacob Mont Blanc” I whispered.
“Bingo”
“So you think he does something to mess with their mind?” I inquired.
“I think so, I mean with the kind of power you say you've seen him display, I wouldn't put it past him.” He replied. I furrowed my brows, digesting his words.
“But for an Alpha Prime to have such powers is unheard of.” I countered.
“What if it's something localised to the North American Primes?” He suggested. I pursed my lips before getting to my feet, walking over to one of the shelves.
“That could be the case, there should be an index of all past Alpha Primes of North America.” I whispered, looking through the books. “I could have sworn I saw it was he… there it is.”
I pulled it out of the shelf and walked back to my table, Liam joined me and I flipped through the book, scanning through their biography which also listed their powers until I came up to Jacob.
Jacob Mont Blanc
158th Alpha Prime
Son of Theodore and Nancy Mont Blanc
Born 09/09/1989
Powers: N/A
“Why did they leave out his powers?” Liam wondered out loud. I stared at the book, trying to make sense of why they would do such a thing.
“I have no idea but none of the other Alpha Primes had any power resembling his.” I pointed out, tearing a piece of paper and grabbing my pen, I scribbled down all the powers I had seen him display.
Possession
Enhanced speed above that of a Prime
Enhanced healing above that of a Prime
Eyes changing colours
Drinks human blood
Manipulate body temperature
Power of persuasion.
I stared at the list before pushing it to Liam, who read through it.
“I think we should check the compendium of creatures in the library, could he be part something?”
I shook my head.
“No, if he was, I would have sniffed it out.” I said, referring to my extremely sensitive sense of smell.
“So what are we going to do now?” He asked, I leaned into my seat.
“I have no idea, continue with your investigations and report whatever you find.” I instructed, he nodded just as Magnus walked in.
“The Dubois are truly grateful for the help you are willing to provide.” He relayed.
“It's the least I can do, we can't keep losing members of our continent and there is something fishy going on about all these.” I replied. “Speaking of which, can you reach out to as many families with missing family members, I need to know whether Amelia's words regarding her being followed was an isolated incident or if the other families also experienced something like that too.”
“As you wish Prime.” He replied.
“Great.” I looked around, my eyes landing on the records of the iron ore exports.
“That reminds me, since I have officially assumed the role of Alpha Prime, could you please take me through our Iron Ore exports records. I know close to nothing about it.” I said. He smiled and nodded.
“It would be my pleasure, in fact I am having a meeting with some of the members of the Silverstone Mining Group, why don't you join me?”
I beamed, getting to my feet.
“I would love to.”
*********
The meeting went well and I knew I had a lot to learn about the business operations of the pack.
“I'm starving.” I grumbled, patting my stomach. The doors to my office opened.
“Liam, can you have them make me a sandwich? I'm absolutely starving.” I said, not taking my eyes off the papers in front of me.
“Good thing we have a reservation.”
My head snapped up to see Jacob standing in the middle of my office. I narrowed my eyes at him.
“What do you think you are doing here? Who the f**k even let you in?” I demanded. He didn't answer, instead walked over to one of the side tables near a window. He picked up one of the pictures, it was a framed picture of me as a child.
“Enchanting as a child and breathtaking as an adult.” He stated, glancing over at me before placing the frame back on the table. I folded my arms across my chest, refusing to acknowledge his compliment in any way.
“This is my Consulate, you can't just waltz in however you like. There are rules in place and though you have a kink for disregarding laid down rules, I won't tole…”
“What do you know about my kinks Adelaide?” He asked, turning to me, his head tilted to the side. I curled my lips at him.
“None and I would rather it remain like that. Now do me a favour and get out of my Consulate.” I said, turning my attention to the landline to call the kitchens when a hand gripped my hand.
He had in a matter of seconds appeared in front of me.
“I don't think you understand me, pet. Either you get your lovely ass up, get your coat and handbag and go to dinner with me or I haul you over my shoulder with you kicking and screaming for your entire consulate to see.” He paused, a sly smile on his lips. “I think it will paint a pretty picture, don't you think? An Alpha Prime hauling his errant Luna Prime to dinner.”
I could only glare at him, resisting the urge to clobber him with the receiver. I snatched my hand away from him, getting to my feet.
“I'm glad you're seeing things my way.” He replied, chuckling as I scowled at him.
