CHAPTER4

We Have To Leave Now! Anne's Point Of View "Mum, please don't make me do this," I pleaded once more hoping she would listen to my heavy cries "Don't be so selfish Anne, for goodness sake think about your father and I for once and what good this opportunity would do for us." My mum resounded, her grey eyes sparkling with excitement. My mum had always been like this, inconsiderate and self centred. She had made me wonder if I was ever hers. From a young age I had looked at the kids around me and saw the amount of love their parents showered on them. I felt a sharp pain pierce through my tender heart and my eyes became heavy as tears threatened to fall. “Ok mum, I will do as you said, to enter into a contract with Mr Miller for two months. If that will make you and father happy.” Oh what am I going to do? What am I supposed to say to Rex? If Only Anne was alive, then maybe I would be spared from this cruel subjection. "What are you two ladies bickering about? For Heaven's sake Mr Miller’s are waiting!" My Dad spat out with an Ugly frown on his face. "Go on already, go get your things," He ordered, pointing his impatient hand towards the wooden door that masked my cubic room. "That wouldn't be necessary," Mr Miller's cold voice echoed as he emerged out of the dark. "I'm sure I could easily provide everything that she'd need," He said, then sniffled from the cigarette bud that rested between his long fingers. He puffed his mouth calmly, then let the smoke that was caged in it slip gracefully into the air. This sight alone caused him to look as magnificent as a mythical creature . "So? What are you waiting for?" He raised his brows in question, which snapped me out of my daze. "Go on Anne," My mum nudged me towards him. I can't believe this was happening to me. I bit my bottom lip roughly as I wrecked my brain for a possible solution to help me escape this problem, but I knew nothing and no one could save me now. I took heavy steps behind Mr Miller as he led me to his car. I turned back to look at my parents, hoping they'd at least feel remorse for sending me away. But who was I Kidding? They both had a victorious smile on their faces, it was as though they had just won the lottery. Without waiting for me, Mr Miller hopped into the black car. I took the cue and followed suit. In no time the vehicle started moving. My heart kept beating loudly against my chest. There were a series of emotions running through my body. The air in the car was stiff and it caused every breath I drew to be hard. I casted a quick glance at the man who was meant to be my husband and also the father of my child. His chiselled face was firm and at the same time delicate. His chin was smooth and sharp, his nose stood high and was pointed. And his blue orbs were cold and stoic. This was the person that was to decide my fate now. Judging from the incident that happened earlier he was no man to be messed with. But did he know that I was not Anne? Asides me no one knew Anne had died so how did this mysterious man know all about my sister and her death? Tiredly, I turned to the window and let my eyes travel along the moving road. The drive to his house was a long one. We had passed the main town where houses and different businesses were positioned and were now driving on an eerily narrow path. It was so quiet that the only sound heard was the low rumble of our vehicle and the crackling of insects. My body felt crumpled, I had sat for too long. Finally, after hours of being on the road, the car came to a halt in front of a magnificent building. "Get out," Mr Miller ordered in his cold voice. Without wasting another time, I swagged out of the car. Only when I had gotten down was I able to get a better view of the building. The building loomed graciously into the dark sky. It was dark and unfortunately there wasn't a single street light set up to help my scrutinising eyes. "What are you waiting for? Get in!" He once again ordered and I nodded, taking a step on the marble stairs that laid to the grand entrance door. Walking into the house, a silent gasp escaped my lips. The house was much bigger and better than I had expected. If I had thought Becca's house was a castle, then I was truly mistaken and this was a sight to savour. However, unlike Becca's house, this house lacked every feature that could qualify it for a home. It was dimmed with light and its huge curtains were closed. "This way," Mr Miller said, leading me from the grand floor and we both ascended through the stairs. "You are back," An elderly lady appeared in front of us as soon as we got off the stairs. Her scrutinising eyes ran through me, before leisurely falling back on Mr Millers. "This is Ophelia" Mr Miller said to the old lady. "She's going to be living here so so well to brief her on the pros and cons of living in this house." "Alright sir,"The old lady replied with a reassuring nod, she cast a gentle glance across me before returning her gaze back to Mr Miller. Mr Miller was about to speak again, when one of the men from earlier on emerged from the stairs. He got to Mr Miller and whispered something to him in his ears. He held a serious look and I wondered what he could be saying to him. As soon as the man stopped talking, the atmosphere in the room became icey, causing goosebumps to run through my skin. "I'm leaving." Mr Miller announced. "Mrs Smith Showed Ophilia to her room." He then descended down the stairs. I watched as his figure retracted quickly before completely disappearing out of View. Follow me, the old woman said in her cracked voice.
