New Home
Anne's POV
She led me into one of the rooms. Unlike the living room which was dark and creepy, this room was unexpectedly nice.
"This would be your room for the time, the bathroom is that way and your closet is over there, Mr Miller had preordered different stock of clothing for you, so I'm sure you would easily find the one that best suits your taste," She said in a sweet voice.
I had not expected her to speak so lovely to me. She had looked at me with intense questioning eyes and it made me feel that she was an unapproachable old lady.
"Are you scared child?" She suddenly asked softly. Her eyes were warm and filled with sincere concern. Something which my parents had failed to show.
Her genuine concern soothed my heavy heart causing a wave of emotions to wash over me.
"I'm okay," I replied, trying my best to stop my lips from trembling. The truth was that I was scared, I was very scared. My future and my entire life rested in the hands of a total stranger.
"You don't have to lie to me child," She said in a hush tone, then sat next to me on the bed before taking my hands in her's.
"The truth is I am actually scared." I revealed, causing silent tears to roll down my cheeks. All the emotions I had managed to hold burst out of me as I sobbed heavily.
"There, There," She said gently patting my back.
"You are going to be fine, okay, Just do as he says and never break any of his rules then you will be safe." She reassured me, I took comfort in her kind words and wiped my teary eyes.
"Now go to bed, you must have had a tiring day," she said and I got under the duvet. I watched her walk out of the room.
Minutes passed after she'd left and yet I still could not find sleep. I rolled on my side anxiously. The bed was far bigger and much softer than my old bed at home, but I still found it hard to fall asleep.
My mind travelled back to what Mr Miller had said about Anne, was it possible that he knew Anne before she died? And if he did how come I never knew him? Anne and I were very close and we never hide anything from each other.
There was something strange going on, I'm sure Mr Miller has ulterior motives for asking me to be the mother of his children and I have to know.
I was still trying to put together the missing puzzles in my life and did not realise the time I had exhaustedly drifted off to sleep.
"Good morning!" A bubbly voice woke me up from my slumbers. My eyes flickered open and was graced by Mrs Smith's lovely face.
"Go take your bath dear, breakfast will be served very soon." She said, When she noticed I was fully awakened she left the room giving me enough privacy to dress up.
I lazily got out of bed then went into the bathroom, a warm bath had already been set up for me. I slipped into the bathtub and soaked myself in it. After a few minutes I emerged from the bathroom completely clean.
I walked towards my closet, clothed in a soft bathrobe. Just as Mrs Smith had said last night, indeed there were numerous sets of clothes in the closet. My eyes scanned carefully amongst the clothing.
I was looking for something simple and casual to wear but most of the pieces were ostentatious and extravagant. After a few minutes of searching, my eyes fell on a pair of jeans trousers.
I quickly threw it on and merged it with a black fitted crop top. After brushing my hair neatly, I exited the room.
I got to the grand floor and the tantalising aroma from the dining hall drew me in. I had not eaten the previous night so my tummy grumble at the sight of the mouth watering dishes that were placed before me.
"What are you waiting for? Start eating already," Mrs Smith who stood beside me urged.
I thanked her once more for the food then picked up mine, before digging in.
I looked at the empty chairs that were surrounded around me and immediately my thoughts flew back to Mr Miller. I wondered if he was back, perhaps he was still resting.
"You look really pretty dear," Mrs Smith complimented with a smile.
"Thank you, I'm actually going to college, I have an early class today." I replied, informing her.
"What?" She asked in surprise. "Are you sure Mr Miller would be okay with you leaving the mansion?"
"I don't think he would have a problem with that."
"I will get going now." I rose up to my feet. I had barely touched my food. My appetite had completely disappeared when she brought up Mr Miller's name.
"Wait!" Mrs Smith yelled behind me, causing me to halt in my tracks.
"Your school must be pretty far away," I will ask a driver to drop you off.
"No need Ma'am," I instantly refused.
"Don't be so stubborn dear, you won't easily find any vehicle on these streets unless you plan on trekking,"
She had a point, I was already running late so I had no other choice than to agree. She led me into the garage which was filled with a range of various luxurious cars.
I was so confused and did not know the one to pick, they were all very expensive. After much contemplation, I chose the smallest looking one then got in.
I waved Mrs Smith goodbye as the car drove out of the compound.
"Please could you pull over here?" I asked the driver softly.
"But your school is over there," He pointed. I had asked him to stop outside my college building. I knew going inside with such a luxurious car would stir up some comments.
"Please sir, Just stop the car here, I can easily find my way from here," I begged Once more. The driver studied my face intensely before nodding in agreement causing me to breathe in relief.
I carefully scanned the environment to make sure nobody I knew was around, before sneaking out of the car like a criminal running away from the scene of his crime.
