Chapter 11

1195 Words
For a moment, the world seemed to become silent. The sound of vehicles around the restaurant parking lot evaporated from Wilona's ears. All that was there was that gaze. The gaze of a Sonny Kendrick that had once made her feel comfortable, but now felt like a thorn stuck deep in her heart. Wilona did not move. Her gaze was sharp and piercing, looking at the pair of humans in front of her, who had long been her nightmare. And the little girl. She even resembled Maya, her daughter who had died due to the actions of the cursed pair of humans in front of her. Of course. That damn man named Sonny Kendrick was so dominant, that he had planted his genes so strongly in every flesh and blood of him. The woman who was the reason for the destruction of Wilona's household, stood with wide eyes like an i***t, staring at Wilona with her big eyes. Wilona snorted in her heart. So, in the end they got married. Maybe, because Elsa got pregnant after their affair. She knew it. The little girl held Elsa's hand, tugging at it while whining, "Mom, dad, let's go home, I'm tired..." Sonny and Elsa were seen standing stiffly, as if they were looking at the ghost of someone they had killed before. The silence was suffocating, as if six years of the unfinished past were standing in one frame of destiny. Wilona's eyes remained fixed, but now they were shaking. All those memories came like a flood that broke the dam of patience that she had built for years. The sound of crying, the sound of screaming, betrayal, and... death. Her little daughter, Maya, who died at the bottom of the lake, in an accident when Sonny--her father, was making out with Elsa--the babysitter, when she should have been at home, safe and warm, after coming home from school. Not to mention the pain Wilona experienced after the accident that happened because she was driving in a state of confusion and panic because she was chasing time to pick up Maya. All those bitter feelings made Wilona's body cold, as if someone had just doused her with ice water. Sonny finally spoke, his voice hoarse and hesitant. “Wilona… how are you?” Instantly, Wilona’s heart was stirred in anger. But her face remained calm, expressionless, like a marble carving. She didn’t want to show any emotion. Not in front of them. However, Sonny was actually amazed. The man stared at Wilona for a long time, as if he couldn’t believe the woman in front of him was his ex-wife. Wilona’s long hair that she had always complained about because it was too complicated, had now been cut short. The pixie hair style made her face look slimmer, more defined, and fresher. Her chin was pointed and her cheekbones looked high like a model. The clothes she wore—a cream blazer and navy blue high-waist pants, made her appearance look classy, mature, and elegant. Her skin also looked whiter and smoother, like newly polished Chinese porcelain. Wilona didn’t wear heavy makeup, but that actually added to her elegance, a statement that beauty doesn’t always have to be about thick and colorful makeup. Was Wilona always this beautiful? Elsa noticed Sonny’s gaze on Wilona and she was burning with jealousy. Her face hardened. She held Sonny’s arm tightly and nudged him lightly. “Honey, let’s go. Nina is starting to get cranky.” However, instead of following Elsa’s wishes, Sonny ignored her words completely and took a step closer. “You’re getting prettier, Wilona…” Those words were like a taunt in Wilona’s ears. She clenched her jaw, but before she could answer, a deep voice came from behind. “Baby, who are you talking to?” Josh. The handsome and dashing man approached, his eyes alternately looking at Sonny and Elsa, then turning to Wilona with a worried look. Knowing Josh's presence, without thinking Wilona immediately grabbed his arm and smiled slightly. She knew that what she was about to do would make her have to explain her actions to Josh, but that was an easy matter and could be done later. Besides, if she didn't hear what Josh said wrong, the man called her... Baby? "No, really," Wilona said in a sweet tone. Then, with a confident movement, she put her arm around Josh's arm. "Just a stranger asking for directions. Come on, let's go. We still have other plans, right." Josh still looked confused, but he followed Wilona's game. He embraced Wilona gently, and the two of them walked away. Sonny could only stand there stunned. His chest suddenly felt tight seeing Wilona leaning so close to another man. Even though his common sense knew he had no right to be jealous, his heart refused to accept it. The new figure of Wilona disturbed his heart with regret that he could not describe. Elsa saw the change in Sonny's expression. Her anger boiled. What the heck. Why did the woman who was her husband's ex-wife, her former employer too, suddenly reappear after disappearing for years? Elsa felt calm after finding out that Wilona disappeared after the divorce with Sonny was finalized. The woman was alone and Sonny could not even trace where she went because he did not even contact her adoptive mother at the orphanage where she was raised. Elsa knew that Sonny always harbored guilt for causing the death of his daughter and he also felt guilty towards Wilona. The divorce was also on Wilona's initiative, because Sonny was actually reluctant to divorce. However, Elsa was not stupid either. She deliberately did not use any contraception since three months had passed since her first intimate relationship with Sonny and exactly two months after Wilona left, Elsa happily announced her pregnancy. Sonny felt a little comforted because of her pregnancy, so he slowly began to forget about Maya and Wilona and after Nina was born, he became more focused on her and their daughter. Now, like a ghost, she suddenly stood in front of them and shook Sonny again. Damn! Jealousy and worry mixed together in Elsa's heart. However, before Elsa had time to vent her emotions to Sonny, Nina's soft voice interrupted. "That auntie was really beautiful, Mom. Like a movie star on television!" said Nina innocently, her small eyes still staring at Wilona and Josh's departure with apparent admiration. Elsa gritted her teeth. "Don't praise other people too much, Nina. She's also a nobody!" snapped Elsa unconsciously, making Nina surprise and hugging Sonny's hand reflexively. Sonny looked at his little daughter with a complicated look, then looked back at Wilona and Josh who had moved away. His heart was restless and the desire to talk more with Wilona was very strong, but he knew that the wounds he had made in the past had now become a chasm that separated them. He could no longer cross that chasm. "Don't yell at our daughter, Elsa!" Sonny snapped at Elsa, venting his own feelings of anxiety. "She's just an honest little girl. Wilona is indeed very beautiful!" Elsa boiled by anger.
