Selena contemplated the man's words, but they made no sense to her. Here was a stranger in front of her, who, without knowing her, had paid for all her hospital bills and now he was offering his home to her. There had to be a catch, nothing was ever given for free.
"Why are you helping me?" She asked.
"Because that is what I do, I help people. And you needed my help." He uncrossed his arms and proceeded to put his hands in his pants pocket.
"Leave us." Selena ordered as she glanced at the doctor and nurse. Both parties were taken aback, but Callum only nodded in agreement. The doctor whispered something to the nurse and she then assured Selena that they would be just outside the door if she needed anything.
"Why are you really helping me?" Selena pressed as she heard the door silently close behind Callum.
"In honesty, I pity you. You were so....broken. You had no one to claim you. You were all alone in your suffering." He took a couple of steps closer, being careful to keep some distance. "And you remind me of someone." He tilted his head and gave her a sly grin.
As Callum stared at Selena, he was once again for the hundredth time reminded of how much she resembled his late wife. Her youthful look and smooth pale skin, contrasted by her raven hair and those striking dark green eyes, made Callum feel a type of attraction for the girl.
"An old girlfriend?" Selena asked, but she already knew the answer.
"Something like that. If you come home with me, I will tell you about her. I promise it's a real romantic tragedy that will have you on your toes." Callum's eyes suddenly turned a shade lighter, giving them a yellow tint. He composed himself instantly, embarrassed he had let his hidden emotions show through his eyes. If only she knew what he really was, she would certainly run from him.
Selena gasped quietly as she looked at Callum's eyes. Those eyes, she knew them.
"Your eyes, Iv'e seen them before. Who are you really?"
"Have you? Well I suppose there are many people out there with honey brown eyes." Callum rolled his eyes trying to feign, dismay.
"Don't patronize me, " Selena said sharply.
"I think you have head trauma that has caused you confusion. Of course, this is to be expected after a year in a coma." Callum again, stepped closer to Selena.
"You can leave with me today if you wish. I have prepared my home for your arrival. I know I am a stranger and the situation is less than ideal, but truly, I am in this only to help with your recovery. You will be free to return to the hospital whenever you wish to." His voice softened and his sly grin had now turned into a warm smile.
"I suppose I do not have much of a choice." Selena knew she would get more freedom outside the hospital than inside the hospital. She needed privacy to get her thoughts together and wouldn't get this at the hospital. Although she was very suspicious of Callum, she thought if anything happened she could over take him.
"You always have a choice. We all do." He assured her.
"Well then, shall we go now?" Selena said, submitting to his wishes.
Within two hours, Selena was released from the hospital and now sat in the back seat of Callum's mercedes. The drive was a silent one and, according to Callum, it would be a long one. Soon Selena fell into a slumber and into her dream world once again.
The blurry images came to view but this time they were not focused on the white-haired women, but instead the images showed a man.
The man walked quickly, following the river bank. He wore a dark hoodie which he used to hide his face. His jeans were now soiled from splashing through the tunnels. He had heard the gun shots and instead of going after the vampires he decided to leave the tunnels entirely. His feet squished water in his boots, and this annoyed him more than it should have.
The vampires were in the tunnels right now killing his brothers, but he could care less. He never wanted any part in this, he even left a few times, but Caden always found him. There was nowhere he could ever hide from him. Tonight was different. He had seen the monstrosity that Caden had created, and he wanted no part in such experiments.
When Caden had first come to him with a proposal, the man had been at his lowest. Caden had offered him immortality and redemption in exchange for the man's blood. At the time, the man had nothing left to lose and all he could think of was of revenge, so he accepted the proposal. Tonight, however, was the night he regretted making the pact the most. Tonight he planned to end it all. His blood would no longer bring forth death and abominations.
The man stopped suddenly as he heard a loud splashing echo coming from the frozen river. He slowly approached the origin of the sound, and he stopped in his track when he saw what had caused the sound. A body slowly made its way down the river to the bank where the man stood. As the current brought the battered body closer into view, the man finally noticed the white hair that covered the person's face. The man contemplated walking away, but when he saw the monster above he knew what happened, and he became furious. In the end, he decided against it and in one swoop he grabbed the body and pulled it ashore.
He dragged the body underneath the shadows where they could be hidden. As he carefully laid the body down, he gently swept the hair from its face. He was surprised at what he saw. The cold body spasmed and the woman's mouth growled in pain, exposing fangs.
The man dropped her as he realized what she was.
"Vampire." He whispered and recoiled away from her.
