Vaughn went to the kitchen to find something to calm Shaina down, when they arrived home. He sat her down on a high stool at the island table while their family fussed over them. Shaina hugged her kids, who stayed up late to wait for them. She kissed the top of their heads and gave them a reassuring smile. “Just go, sleep. I’m fine now,” she told her kids. She looked at Hilda, who still regarded her with worried eyes. “Ma, don’t worry. Just rest.
