I woke up as the first rays of the sun started to emerge. Groggily, I stretched my arms above me and let out a deep breath. When I opened my eyes, I realized the car had stopped moving and that Proteus was no longer beside me.
Worry began to fill me as I looked around for him but didn't see him anywhere. Warily, I got out of the car and stretched my legs. My muscles felt numb under me and I gritted my teeth as I took a couple of steps. I had never stayed sitting down for so long. It was a strange feeling.
I realized I was standing in the middle of a forest. Of course, I didn't know where I was.
Suddenly, I realized the compass was no longer with me. Quickly, I rushed back into the car and looked for it underneath the seat and on any spot, it could have possibly fallen.
