The next day I finally meet up with Ryan and Kate again. They definitely missed being around me. They look like they're bursting to tell me all the news from the last few days that I missed in college and training. As I excited as I am to hear all the things they want to tell me, all I want to talk about is Trey and how incredible our first date was. "So my mate actually found me," I begin. We are sitting in the canteen of the college in between classes. Kate and I are both studying the same course but Ryan is in a separate one, so we don't usually get to spend breaks together. Our timetables clash. So I want to use this opportunity to tell them all about my first date. "Oh, cool," says Ryan. Him and Kate exchange looks. I frown. Why are they acting so uninterested? This is very unlike them. They are usually way over the top and excited for me. They were so eager for me to meet my mate and now that I had my first date with him, they don't want to hear about it. I am a little annoyed.
"So, then Amy told the new coach that she doesn't like his drills and asked when you're coming back," says Kate, continuing the story she was telling me before I mentioned Trey. I give her a soft smile. "Cool," I answer and shrug. I look down at my phone. Trey and I exchanged numbers as he dropped me home yesterday. My mind drifts back to last night. He was so respectful when he drove me home. He offered to speak to my parents to apologize for breaking the curfew they set but I assured him that I would be okay. He didn't make things uncomfortable for me and agreed not to walk me to the door. I knew for a fact that my family was up, probably waiting for me to come home safely.
"I'm gonna go for a walk before class," I tell Ryan and Kate before gathering my belongings together. They give me a confused look. "Is everything okay?" they ask at the same time. I shrug. "Yeah, just need to think a few things through," I admit.
"Did Trey hurt you?" asks Kate. I jump up in surprise. "Uh, no, of course not, he wouldn't do that," I tell her. She gives me a soft smile as I get up. Half way out the canteen I pause. I turn around and make my way back to Kate. "How did you know?" I ask. She gives me a confused look. "How did you know his name is Trey?" I ask again. Kate's eyes grow wide. She looks at Ryan who looks a bit surprised. "You told us," she answers. I frown. "No I did not. Every time I mentioned my mate today you completely blanked me and haven't acknowledged me. So tell me how you knew his name," I say.
Kate and Ryan exchange looks. "Vik, promise you won't be mad," she says. My heart begins to race and my palms get sweaty. What are they hiding from me? "Why would I get mad?" I ask her. She sighs. "Well, Ryan and I came across Trey in college one of the days when you were at home," she begins. I nod. No big deal, he must have introduced himself while I was away.
"He stopped us and began asking us a few questions about you. We did not think much of it so we gave him basic details like your name and your age or whatever," explains Ryan. I continue to listen without disturbing. "Then he asked us some more personal questions like your address and your interests," he continues. I frown. "You gave him my address?!" I exclaim. Others around us glance over to see what all the noise is about. "Uh, yeah. We did not think it was a big deal. After all, he is your mate and we wanted you two to get a chance to get to know each other," explains Kate. I roll my eyes.
"How could you just give out personal information like that?" I question. "Do you realize how dangerous that is? I am the Alphas daughter! What if he was some creep and wanted to hurt me?" I ask feeling frustrated. They both look down at their feet. "We only meant good. We swear," says Ryan. "What else did you tell him?" I ask. They exchange looks. "He told us his plans for your first date so we helped him settle on some plans," she answers. I frown. "Like what?"
Does this mean that everything we did last night was not something he actually enjoys? Did he take me to all those places because he knew I'd enjoy them? I appreciate him wanting the date to be enjoyable but it does not feel genuine anymore. I feel like I got played. Did he really mean anything he said or did or was it all part of a plan to get e to start falling for him? Does he even like sushi? I am so confused.
"Well, everything he planned was his idea. We just helped out get the details right," explains Ryan. They both seem a little scared. I know they did not mean to do wrong. They did not actually do anything wrong quite frankly. But, I feel like maybe part of our date was a lie. I don't know him too well. It is hard to tell if I went on a date with a genuine version of Trey or if he put on a facade to impress me. I sigh. "Don't worry about it, no big deal. I'll figure it out. I am just worried that he might not be as nice as he came off to be. This whole thing makes me uncomfortable as it is. I don't want to be played and have my heart broken," I admit. They give me a soft smile.
"You need to stop overthinking it. You two are paired together for a reason. Give him a proper chance. If you stop being so paranoid, it will be more enjoyable for you both," states Kate. I sigh again. I am very defensive. I am the Alphas daughter after all. It is hard for me to trust people. Especially people who I don't know. How am I supposed to be destined to be with someone I barely even know?
