I hadn’t said a word since we’d left Lavinia’s house and returned to his place. Wes tried to engage me in conversation, but I didn’t really hear him. Eventually, he stopped trying to get me to talk and let me stare at the wall. I could hear him banging around in the kitchen, and I’m sure whatever he was cooking would taste delicious. If I had an appetite and wanted to eat, that is. Which I didn’t. What I wanted was to crawl into a hole and forget any of this had happened. Someone was trying to kill me.
